When Lu Feng was about to get up from the sofa, Lu Qiang and Jiang Yang both held his arms and made him sit back. “You are not allowed to go anywhere or we will tell Yuyan that you like someone but you are not telling her,” Jiang Yang said.
Lu Feng looked at both of them and both nodded, saying, “We are serious.”
“What the heck!” Saying Lu Feng leaned back on the sofa giving up in front of his two friends.
When these three were busy with their talk, other family members were busy talking to the birthday girl. Lu Lijun went to his brother and sat beside him. When Jiang Yuyan was free from others she went to these four important men in her life and sat beside Lu Lijun.
“How old are you now, Yuyan?” Lu Lijun asked.
“You should not ask a woman her age, Lu Lijun,” Jiang Yuyan said.
“I just wanted to make sure till what age we can call a person as a kid,” Lu Lijun said and others laughed.
“Don’t worry Lu Lijun she has passed that age, and she is an adult now even though she doesn’t look like the one,” Jiang Yang said siding with Lu Lijun, just to tease his sister.
“It’s my birthday today. Can’t you guys treat me well, a bit?” Jiang Yuyan complained.
“Elder brother is there to treat you well so don’t expect the same from us,” Lu Lijun said, and Jiang Yang exclaimed, “Exactly my thought, Lu Lijun.”
Lu Feng and Lu Qiang said nothing and preferred to see the show.
Seeing how both were teasing her, Jiang Yuyan frowned and looked at Lu Lijun. “Fine, I am a kid, then what are you?”.
“I am a kid but with a brain,” Lu Lijun replied calmly.
“Oh! So, Mr. kid with a brain, where is my gift?” Jiang Yuyan asked though she expected nothing from him.
“It’s upstairs in your room,” Lu Lijun replied, and Jiang Yuyan looked at him in doubt. “In my room?” Lu Lijun nodded. She looked at others and all nodded in sync as saying yes.
“Let’s go to your room.” Saying it to his sister, Jiang Yang looked at others and all five went upstairs. When they reached the door of Jiang Yuyan’s room, she looked at them and they signaled her to open the door.
Opening the door, she stepped inside two steps away from the door. The lights inside the room were off and in the dark, she could see nothing. Jiang Yang turned on the light and the whole room brightened up. What she saw afterward made her eyes open wide.
Lu Lijun created different things from the colorful papers and those included, Jiang Yuyan’s favorite things like birds and butterflies that Lu Qiang and Lu Feng taught Lu Lijun. Lu Lijun tied them in a thread to hang them around the wall of her room and when he saw her room, he hung them on the wall with a huge glass window. 1
Those were many pretty, colorful and different creations occupying the whole wall from top to bottom. With those paper creations, there was a lighting series hung in a spiral way, along the wall which had tiny white bulbs on it, making all those colorful creations shine brightly to make that room colorful and alive. They hung a pretty wind chime in the center of the window too.
The part that was hanging in front of the window had colorful birds and butterflies on it. It was moving along with a light breeze and a wind chime that was creating beautiful sounds was making it look even prettier.
Having a wide and pleasant smile on her face, Jiang Yuyan went to the wall and looked at everything carefully. She held one paper bird in her hand and tried to flap its wings by pulling its tail. A memory from childhood days flashed in front of her eyes, making her giggle. That bird made her think about Lu Qiang and she looked at him. Lu Qiang could see what she was thinking.
Later, she looked at the butterfly and turned to look at Lu Feng as she knew only Lu Feng could make it so perfect for her. Lu Feng replied to her with a smile. All were happy to see her smiling and giggling as they could see she liked it and it was the best gift from them on her birthday.
Observing everything carefully, she turned around and stood up in front of Lu Lijun. “You know? This is one of the best gifts I have ever got on my birthday. Thank you, Lu Lijun.”
“I am glad that you liked it, but I was not the only one to make it. Brother Lu Feng, brother Lu Qiang and brother Jiang Yang helped me, too,” said Lu Lijun.
“But the idea was yours,” Jiang Yang said and Lu Lijun nodded. Later Lu Feng added, “Though we helped him a bit, he was the one who spent his days and nights preparing all these.”
“Lu Feng is right,” Lu Qiang said.
Smiling Jiang Yuyan messed up Lu Lijun’s hair with her fingers. Lu Lijun said nothing and made his hair right once she was done messing his hair.
Jiang Yuyan looked at others and said thank you too. They went downstairs and after dinner and having fun together, the whole Lu family was ready to go back. As usual, Lu Qiang stayed back and others left. It was late, so all went to their rooms.
When Lu Qiang and Jiang Yuyan went inside the room, Jiang Yuyan went to the bathroom to freshen up and change her clothes while Lu Qiang went to his office bag and pulled out one gift box out from it. After freshen up, when Jiang Yuyan came out of the bathroom in her night pajama, Lu Qiang went to her and made her sit on the tiny table in front of the dresser.
Jiang Yuyan was startled and asked, “What happened?”
