“Both of you are not kids to complain about these things,” Saying Mo Ruolan brushed them off and started to arrange the things for the cake cutting.
Moving closer to whisper in his father’s ears, Jiang Yang said, “Father, on your birthday you must have gotten different special treatments from a mom so you can leave this cake thing for your kids.”
As Lu Qiang and Lu Feng were standing beside him, they could hear what Jiang Yang just said to his father and Lu Feng whispered to Lu Qiang, “He won’t even spare his father from his shamelessness.” Lu Qiang smiled.
Lu Jinhai was standing beside Jiang Peizhi and he too heard what Jiang Yang said to Jiang Peizhi so he said looking Jiang Yang, “Your father is a greedy man, Jiang Yang.”
“You are no less than me, Lu Jinhai,” Jiang Peizhi said.
“Don’t forget who is my father,” Lu Jinhai said, being proud about it.
These men were talking and smiling among themselves while others were unknown to what they were talking about.
Jiang Yuyan was ready to cut the cake, and all were ready to wish her. She blew the candles and everyone started to sing happy birthday for her while Lu Qiang was looking at her with pleasant expressions on his face. She looked happy, and all he wanted to see her happy like this.
Once Jiang Yuyan cut the cake, she straight away looked in the direction where these men were standing. All understood she was looking for Lu Qiang, but her sight had another meaning too that only Lu Qiang and Jiang Yang could understand.
“Let’s go,” Lu Qiang said, looking at Jiang Yang.
Jiang Yang was glad that his sister valued him, but he said, “From now on, she needs only you, Lu Qiang, so you go ahead.”
“Even if I am her future but you are the base of her happy future and without you, nothing can be there. Let’s go, she is waiting for us.” Lu Qiang insisted and others who knew about Jiang Yang’s efforts towards his sister agreed to what Lu Qiang said.
When both went to her, Lu Qiang pushed Jiang Yang ahead so she could feed him a cake first and said, “No one can replace you in her life, Jiang Yang, not even me.”
Birthday girl, Jiang Yuyan was glad to see this as she didn’t have to choose between both as to think for whom she should go first. Both mattered to her equal.
Lu Qiang knew what Jiang Yang meant for his woman, and he knew what Jiang Yang had done and sacrificed for his sister. They were friends, but more than just being a friend, Lu Qiang had respect for Jiang Yang in his heart.
Jiang Yang went to her and before she could feed him a cake, he held her hand and picking up the small portion of the cake from it; he fed her first. “Happy birthday, little birdie.”
Giving him a look with her narrowed eyes, she fed him a cake and said, “Thank you, brother.”
Later, it was Lu Qiang’s turn. Lu Qiang stepped ahead and after he fed her cake, he kissed her on the forehead and said, “Happy birthday, love.”
Smiling, Jiang Yuyan looked at him. “Thank you.” Then, she looked at Lu Lijun, who was standing beside Lu Feng and went to him. Lu Lijun looked at her as he knew why she came to him and accepted the cake and this time Jiang Yuyan didn’t let go of a chance to tease him. She did what Lu Lijun did to her on his birthday. Applying some cream of a cake on his tiny nose, she said, “Now you are looking cute.”
Wiping the cream from his nose with his fingers, he immediately brushed his them against her cheeks before she could retreat and said, “Not more than you.”
“You little devil. You won’t spare me on my birthday even, huh?” Jiang Yuyan said, trying to clean her cheeks with her one hand.
“I plan to trouble you forever,” Lu Lijun replied not knowing his words were going to be true.
“Really? We will see who troubles whom,” she said and Lu Lijun just smiled like others did, seeing both of them bickering like kids.
Jiang Yuyan moved to Lu Feng and looked at him smiling pleasantly, holding a remaining piece of cake in her hand. “You are important for me too, my knight. I hope you remember it.”
Lu Feng felt glad to hear it and accepted the cake. “I do and I will never break that promise. That’s my birthday gift to you.”
“Thank you, but I want one more gift,” she said and others looked at them curious to know what she would ask.
“Anything for you, Yuyan,” Lu Feng said.
“Next year on my birthday, I want to see someone standing beside you, your companion,” Jiang Yuyan said and others agreed while few people who knew about Lu Feng’s feelings didn’t react to it, Lu Qiang, Jiang Yang, elder Lu, and Su Hui. They continued staring at Lu Feng, who was standing speechless to hear it.
Coming out of the startled state, Lu Feng cleared his throat and replied, “I will try,” and Jiang Yuyan was happy to hear it. She moved to other people while Lu Feng’s sight fell on his two friends who were looking at him. Lu Feng averted his site from them and sat on the sofa.
Jiang Yang went to him and sat beside him. He said in a low voice, “If you won’t get anyone, don’t worry. I am always here for you, darling.”
“Fuck off!” Saying Lu Feng was about to shift away from Jiang Yang but Lu Qiang sat beside Lu Feng stopping him from moving away and said, “Jiang Yang is right. You have him, Lu Feng.”
Lu Feng was trapped between both of them and annoyingly said, “I think soon I will stain my hands with the blood of two idiots.”
