Chapter 656: Walking Puppets

Lu Li cared not about the treasures but about Gu Min and the others. Lu Li waved and whooshed down the crack with Hu Lang.
His action scared Wei Yuan. Honorable as Lu Li was, he was only at the peak of the Eternal Realm. Wasn’t he basically rushing down to his own death?

The crack was deep. Lu Li and Hu Lang had be flying for several miles without reaching the bottom. But they did sense the bottom with psychic power. There was a tunnel with a golden glare. That must be the entrance to the underground palace.
“The crack is so deep. How can it be made by the lightning?”
Lu Li was confused. It was likely that lightning must blast a small island but at best there could be a crack of only 100 feet. How could there be a crack several miles deep?
That being said, Lu Li was not too worried as someone had been down here before. He rushed into the tunnel with Hu Lang. Amid a glare, they appeared in a huge hall.
The hall was at least more than 20 miles wide in length and width. It was glaring, surrounded by columns so thick that several men could get their arms around. On the columns carved scenes of the wildness, beasts and insects. There were characters written in the ancient language. Every sign indicated that the underground palace had been in existence for a long time.
“Bang, bang, bang~”
Lu Li and Hu Lang soon located the two running monsters and the fleeing warriors.
Bodies were piled up in the hall. All of them were bloody and horrifying to the sight. Many had Wei Family armors on them. They must be the first came in to slay the monsters.
“Young Master Li, Lord Hu!”
Gu Min and the two patriarchs of the Gu Family were overjoyed to see Lu Li and Hu Lang. There were dozens more in the hall and they were more than happy to see the hope of being snatched from the jaws of death at the sight of a Human Sovereign Realm warrior. Two warriors were being chased down by the monsters. They kept yelling, “My lords, please save us.”

Without any hesitation, Hu Lang took out a large axe and dashed on. Lu Li didn’t make any rash actions. He stared at the two peculiarly-shaped monsters.
The two monsters were not large and they were standing up, like humans. On their backs were tortoise shells. It appeared the monsters were made of some special metal. There were ancient patterns over their body. They had facial features but it was more like they were carved because their eyes couldn’t even move.
What was more bizarre was that their movements were not restricted. They could walk around fast, no slower than warriors of the Noble Lord Realm. Their weapons of choice were two flails with spikes on the hammerheads. That was why those dead warriors had many wounds.
“Buzzing~”
After a white glare, Wei Yuan and the two Noble Lord Realm warriors showed up. When they saw Lu Li, Wei Yuan yelled right away, “The exit is over there. Young Master Lu, go. I will try to slay the Walking Puppets.”
Wei Yuan pointed to a dark opening in a corner. Lu Li only noticed then that a Walking Puppet was wandering around in that area without walking too far. Was it guarding the exit?
“The Walking Puppets have souls?”
Lu Li was curious. Those monsters seemed not to be living things and there was zero signs of them having lives. It appeared as though they were made of some metal.
“Yes!”
Wei Yuan’s answer took Lu Li by surprise. Wei Yuan explained, “As the historic records show, inside the Walking Puppets sealed souls of powerful Xuan Beasts. The Walking Puppets can listen to their master’s orders. I think that Walking Puppet is ordered by the master of the underground palace to guard the exit. We had fought very hard just to get out.”
“No need to rush out. That Walking Puppet is staying around that area. Hu Lang can deal with one. We are safe now!”
Lu Li waved his hand. Wei Yuan was convinced and relaxed. He must make sure that Lu Li wouldn’t be hurt or he could be punished by the Great Buddhist Temple.

The survivors began to gather around Lu Li. Some of them were already injured. One of them had a broken leg, very appalling.

Lu Li controlled several clones to move closer to the Walking Puppet which shattered the clones one after another with the flail. Lu Li’s confidence was boosted. Taking the opportunity, he found a position and smashed the divine weapon of Dragon King on the head of the Walking Puppet.
There were 27 vibration waves spreading in. Hu Lang was getting his hopes high, waiting to see how the Walking Puppet would collapse.
