Feng Tianlan followed the maidservant and they arrived at a quiet bamboo garden. There was a force field around it, which the maidservant explained, “Because the Lady Phoenix is unwell and needed to rest in a quiet environment, a force field was put in place.”
Feng Tianlan ignored her. Instead, she took out the Ice Soul Sword and broke the force field with a single slash. She ran in with a cold and stiffened expression that would have made people think she was here to take revenge.
“Mother?” Feng Tianlan looked around the clean room that was decorated with simple furnishings. However, she panicked when she did not see the person she was looking for.
She called out a few times but still did not see anyone. Finally, she frowned and became very anxious. “Mother!”
“My Lady, the Lady Phoenix is in the closet.” The maidservant followed her into the room. She was puzzled about why Feng Tianlan was calling out for the Lady Phoenix. Still, they were supposed to always obey and follow their Lady unconditionally.
Feng Tianlan watched the maidservant open the closet in the corner of the room. A woman was curled up inside, hugging a pillow tightly while caressing it gently. Her expression was full of tender love. “Dai’er has been naughty again. If you keep doing this, your father will punish you when he gets back.”
Her hair and makeup were done up exquisitely and it looked like she was well taken care of. So, she looked really young, like she was in her early thirties. Her hair was tied up in a bun and she was hugging the pillow with a loving expression on her face.
Feng Tianlan suddenly remembered that she would hide in the closet as a child when she had caused any kind of trouble, fearing that her father would punish her. When her mother couldn’t get her to come out, she would also go into the closet to hug and comfort her. Memories flooded her mind at this image.
Feng Tianlan hadn’t seen her mother for more than ten years. With memories from more than ten years ago fresh in her mind, tears welled up in her eyes. Her throat was dry as she called out sweetly and softly like a little girl, “Mother.”
