Yao Ran immediately rushed over and proceeded to knead Qin Man’s legs. “You’ve worked really hard, Mom. Let me give you a good massage.”
But in the next second, Qin Manshot to her feet and pushed the girl away. “Are you happy now?” she sneered.
“Your mother had to beg your teacher for help booking some measly plane tickets. You can’t even do it yourself!”
She swept the tea set off the living room table with a furious wave of her hand, sending fine china crashing on the floor.
She couldn’t bear the fact that she had to lower her head and beg for mercy because of her damn daughter.
“It’s all that worthless brat’s fault! If she had only passed the Music Association’s assessment, none of this would have happened!”
Yao Ran jumped back in a mix of shock and fright.Qin Manhad lost her temper many times in the past, but she had never been as violent as she was today.
“Teacher Zhang expects you to be alone, but I’m coming with you,”Qin Mandeclared.
She felt that she had to be there, or Yao Ranmight end up causing more trouble for the family.
“But Mom, I already told him that you haven’t been feeling well,” Yao Ranprotested in a low voice. “You can’t come.”
Much like every other teenage daughter, Yao Randidn’t want her mother in Beijing.
If Qin Manwas there, then her movements would be restricted, and she might even get dragged to a hospital.
Yao Ran didn’t want to see a doctor. The method that the last one had told her about was too painful to even imagine. She had no plans on taking that route.
“Well, you’d better think up an excuse, then. Shouldn’t you be glad that I’m willing to sacrifice my personal time to accompany you?”
Qin Man’s tone was almost hostile, and her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
She had plans to go to a beauty salon tomorrow, but she wouldn’t be able to make the appointment anymore. By that time, she would be in Beijing.
She had already arranged for special facial treatment, but her plans are getting derailed due to Yao Ran’s stupidity. Despite this, the girl still dared to look annoyed.
If she was this disagreeable, then she might as well just drop out of the assessment!
“No, no,” Yao Ranquickly reassuredQin Man. “Of course, I’m glad, Mom. I just didn’t want to take up too much of your time. Aren’t you supposed to go to the salon with Aunt Wang this following week? I don’t want you to bail out on your friends for my sake.”
She mentioned the salon on purpose, knowing that it was one of Qin Man’s weak points. After all, apart from money and reputation, the woman valued her face the most.
And so, Yao Ranwas quite dismayed to find thatQin Manwas determined to go to Beijing with her.
“So you do understand how much I do for you?” Qin Man snapped. “I’m wasting my precious days just to keep you company!”
She crossed her arms over her chest and raised a haughty eyebrow. “Tell your teacher that I’m tagging along on your flight. Call him and ask him to get an extra plane ticket.”
“Mom, are you sure this is a good idea?” Yao Ranasked carefully.
They had already inconvenienced Teacher Zhangby having him arrange for the plane tickets.
To ask him for an additional one after the whole matter was settled would be shameless and a tad ungrateful.
But Yao Ranwas smart enough to keep these sentiments to herself.
Qin Man flew into a rage at the girl’s obvious hesitation. She let out a maniacal laugh, andYao Raninstinctively took a step back when she saw the wild look in her mother’s eyes.
Flashbacks surged in her mind. Every time Qin Manlaughed at her like this, she always ended up with bruises on her arms or somewhere else on her body.
Qin Man stopped laughing and glared atYao Ran. “Go and make the call, or you and I will be having a nice, long chat over here.”
Yao Ran was so scared of another beating that she hurriedly took out her phone and dialedTeacher Zhang’s number.
The call connected in a matter of seconds.
“What is it now?” the man demanded impatiently.
He was in the middle of packing for the trip, and was still a little miffed about the day’s events.
When he saw Yao Ran’s name flashing on his screen, his mood turned even fouler.
“Teacher, I know that I am being presumptuous, but I would like to make another request.” Before Teacher Zhangcould say anything,Yao Randecided to bite the bullet and prattled on.
“My mother is getting anxious about my trip. It’s still inconvenient for me to move around because of my leg, and she is worried about me getting on and off the plane. She’s worried about my schedule as well. Even though she isn’t in the best shape at the moment, she insists on coming with me to Beijing.
“So, I was hoping that you can get us another ticket. I am truly, deeply sorry to trouble you again, but I have no other option.”
