“Well, he was sneaking around with a prohibited weapon in his possession. One look, and you can tell that his presence is not legal.”
After explaining himself, Yu Chenproceeded to complain aboutYao Yan. “It’s all Young Master Yao’s fault. “This is supposed to be the responsibility of the Search Division! For all we know, he might be lying back and taking a break somewhere. High-ranking officials are all the same!”
The moment he finished speaking, he felt Yao Tang’s cold gaze sweep over him. And then he received a smack to the head.
Yu Chen failed to react on time and just stood there in a daze. He didn’t know what to make of the situation.
Had he failed as a loyal lackey? But how so? He didn’t say anything wrong…
Could it be that this terrifying little ancestor was acquainted with the Young Master Yao?
But Yu Chendidn’t have much time to think. He hurriedly followedYao Tang’s footsteps, and they continued down the mountain.
Fortunately, the road was relatively smoothfrom this point onward. He would be able to traverse safely even if he was handcuffed.
Along the way, Yao Tangwould occasionally pick something up and deposit it into the space.
Yu Chen could only look on with a mix of amazement and confusion.
The space was already filled to its maximum capacity, yet Yao Tangjust kept putting stuff in one after another.
How was she doing it?
Was she truly a master in the art of space?
It was no longer an improbability in Yu Chen’s mind, especially after everything he had witnessed so far.
Even so, he stifled his curiosity and made an effort not to voice out his questions. He was afraid of riling Yao Tangup and risk getting killed for being a nuisance.
The mountain trail had several forks that led to many winding paths throughout the mountain.
If one wasn’t careful, one could get lost easily.
Despite this, Yao Tangmeandered through the greenery without hesitation, as if it wasn’t her first time going through the various forks and pathways.
Every so often, she would stop and check the plants in a certain area.
The route they took somehow avoided any swamps, and they didn’t encounter any wild beasts, either.
It was as smootha journey as one could hope for.
It wasn’t until they were about to reach the foot of the mountain that they finally came upon a thorny patch.
As they made their way, they heard the distinct sound of fighting in the distance.
“Kill these illegal immigrants!”
“Go!”
“Everyone, protect Young Master Yao! We can’t let him get hurt again!”
“These people are cunning. We need to keep our wits about us and avoid falling for their tricks. Some of our men are already injured. At this rate, we might not be able to get out of this place alive.”
Yao Tang andYu Chencrouched behind some brambles and watch the ensuing fight between the groups from afar.
Yao Tang’s brows furrowed at what she had just heard.
Meanwhile, Yao Yanstood in the middle of the battle, surrounded by his men. Blood was flowing from a gunshot wound on his shoulder, dying his clothes red.
The Search Divisionhad significantly decreased in number. It appeared that the group of smugglers had come prepared, and had many weapons in their arsenal. They were gaining the upper hand in this encounter.
Still, Yao Yan’s men held on and did their best to protect him.
After a while, the smugglers fell back and got into formation. It looked like they were about to launch a coordinated attack.
“Quick! Kill Yao Yanand avenge our dead brothers!”
“Charge! We must make Young Master Yao pay with his blood today!”
“Yao Yan has committed a heinous crime. He should be punished for his misdeeds!”
“Kill him!”
“Don’t let him escape!”
The enemy camp continued to shout their battle cries over and over. They certainly didn’t lack in bluster, but after a few moments, they realized that none of them was coming directly for Yao Yan.
This was despite him being in a vulnerable position, and all their declarations of intent to kill him.
Now that things had come to this, no one was willing to step up and face Yao Yanhead-on. They simply didn’t have the courage to do so.
After all, the fight wouldn’t end once he was gone. If they did dispose of Yao Yan, they knew that the Search Division would have their necks in the aftermath.
It was quite ironic, since, by all appearances, Yao Yanand his team were on the losing side.
Even though the smugglers had yelled their purpose to the sky, no one was willing to see it to fruition.
“Third Brother, wasn’t your boss captured by the Search Division? Aren’t you going to avenge him?”
One of the smugglers goaded a burly man among their group.
“Shut your mouth! Who knows what you’re thinking? You probably just want to pin the blame on our gang. I’m telling you, I’m not stupid. If you want to have a go at him, then be my guest!”
