“Young Master Yang, we’ve already seen everything. How can you say you’re just classmates?”
“I remember now,” someone chimed in. “Yao Ran’s family had dinner with Yang Nian, right? Was that dinner to formally introduce him to her parents?”
A bitter smile slipped into Yao Ran’s lips as she shook her head. “You’ve all misunderstood,” she said. “We’re really just ordinary classmates. I sprained my ankle—that’s why I had to trouble him in carrying me.”
She then added, “The reason Young Master Yang came to my house was to visit my grandmother. He doesn’t mean anything else by it.”
Yao Ran glanced up at Yang Nian with a helpless look on her face. “I’m sorry for making things difficult for you. I didn’t expect it to turn out this way.”
However, after hearing Yao Ran’s explanation, they still couldn’t help but find it unusual.
They didn’t appear to be ordinary friends.
If she really was a “normal friend”, Yao Ran would’ve requested that another female take her down the stairs. That, or she would’ve asked a maid.
Why would Yang Nian carry Yao Ranout of the bathroom while she was still in her bathrobe?
The sprained ankle was just another excuse!
Besides, her ankle didn’t even look swollen.
“Ranran, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s understandable that everyone misunderstood, seeing our position,” Yang Nian said, shaking his head.
However, when he followed everyone’s gaze and glanced at her ankle, he couldn’t help but pursed his lips.
The swelling he had seen earlier seemed to have subsided.
He furrowed his eyebrows. “The family doctor will be here soon,” he said. “I’m sure he’ll be able to treat your ankle.”
“Of course.”
Before he could add anything else, his phone rang out. It was the family doctor.
“It’s the doctor,” Yang Nian announced. “He should be here by now.”
But when the doctor’s voice sounded from the other end of the line, he clenched his phone even tighter. Noticing this, Yao Ran furrowed her eyebrows.
“What happened?” she quickly asked. “Is the doctor here?”
“The doctor…” he hesitated. “Something had come up, and I’m afraid that he wouldn’t be able to make it.”
There was complete silence when another student from International Middle School interrupted, “Young Master Yang, you said you had a fiance, right? Now that you’ve gotten close to Miss Yao, what would happen to the other woman?”
Despite being in the same school, there was a competitive air between the students of International Middle School.
If they could make Yang Nian lose face in this tiny banquet, then it would be much better for them, wouldn’t it?
Hearing this, everyone’s jaw dropped.
If Yang Nian didn’t have a fiance and was simply infatuated with Yao Ran, no one would feel that this was inappropriate. In fact, they’d simply laugh it off and change that topic.

She had brought her phone into the bathroom not to contact Yang Nian, but to discuss her plan with Yan Wei.
This included Yan Wei asking the people at the party to head up to the second floor and rendering it impossible for the doctor to come.
As long as Yang Nian said that she was his fiance, then this matter would be settled, and she’d finally get what she wanted.
