Liu Zhi suddenly thought of something. He quickly grabbed a hold of Xu Hong’s hand. “Fine, we’ll leave, but that girl has to give us the antidote. How will my wife be able to speak if she isn’t cured?”
Xu Hong’s face was filled with worry. Ever since she entered this room, she couldn’t say a single word.
The officer rubbed his forehead in frustration. He motioned for one of the medical staff to come over. “Check up on her and see what’s wrong,” he ordered.
“Of course.” The medical staff quickly agreed.
However, after a thorough examination, they couldn’t find what was wrong with her.
“Why don’t you try to speak?”
Xu Hong opened her mouth, but no words came out.
She was afraid that she’d feel the burning sensation, but she also wanted the police to take Yao Tang away. She wanted everyone to think that the bitch had wronged her.
“How can this be? But everything looks fine.”
“We should go to the hospital and have her checked up.”
Xu Hong brightened up almost immediately. However, just as she was about to nod, Qin Jingapproached the older woman and twisted her arm to her back.
The older woman immediately pulled away, her face looking ashen. “Do you want to die, little girl?” she snapped—her nasally voice echoing across the room.
However, as soon as she spoke, she felt the burning sensation rumbling at the bottom of her throat.
She instantly became weak, paling under everyone’s judgmental gazes.
The police officers gritted their teeth, and the medical staff shook their heads in complete disappointment. It seemed that they had been tricked yet again.
She just pretended to be unable to speak.
“Do you have anything else to say?”
Xu Hong shook her head and waved her hands desperately up in the air. She wanted to profess her innocence, but none of them believed her anymore.
The police officer sneered. “Miss Xu, we already know the truth. You don’t have to pretend that you couldn’t speak anymore,” he snapped. “We’re not stupid.”
Xu Hong clenched her fists. She clearly had a sore throat, and it was all because of Yao Tang’s medicine. However, now, none of them believed her!
She could even see Liu Zhi flickering his eyes at her suspiciously.

Cheng Yan glanced over at the police officer. “Everyone already knows the truth of this matter,” he said, his voice stiff. “When we get to the police station, they must be charged fairly. Don’t you think?”
The officer immediately nodded.
“Of course, Sir! Right away!”
Liu Zhi sneered. Now that all the charges were being added up, he didn’t know how long he’d be sentenced. If he really entered the police station, did he really have a chance to turn things around?
Suddenly, he turned around and slapped Xu Hong right on the face.

Xu Hong froze, stunned by the force.
Although he wasn’t the best husband in the world, he had never tried to hit her—much less humiliate her in front of so many people.

Xu Hong became even more furious. Without another word, she grabbed the broomstick from the ground and swung it toward him.
