“You’re too kind, Madam Meng. It’s just that Ranran and I couldn’t bear to get into a fight with other people. My daughter has always been softhearted and obedient. I suppose that a child who grew up without parents to teach her would naturally turn out the opposite.”
With that, Qin Man secretly mocked Yao Tang’s origins. She flashed the girl a smug smirk.
Despite her own frustrations at Yao Ran, she couldn’t deny that her adopted daughter did make her proud. In this aspect, she was definitely better than Yao Tang.
A disobedient child only brought calamity to the family!
Madam Meng glanced at Qin Jing before saying graciously, “Very well, then. For Ranran’s sake, we are willing to share the room.”
If this farce continued for much longer, they would only lose face in public.
It was also fine to end things like this.
Since Yao Ran had offered to pay for the meal, they could just leave it at that. There would be more opportunities for a formal dinner in the future.
Yao Ran was happy with this development. She turned to look at Yao Tang and her companions.
Unexpectedly, Meng Yang snorted and rolled his eyes. “Who would want to eat with you? Did you really think we won’t be able to find another restaurant?”
This haughty woman spoke as though she was handing out alms to them.
They were here to try out the hotel’s food. Who would have thought that they would get tangled up in such a situation? Besides, the private room was originally theirs.
If anyone were to listen to this woman, they would think Qin Jing and her party were the shameless ones.
Screw the meal, Meng Yang didn’t want to sit down with these pretentious people!
They might be carrying an infectious disease, for all they knew. Who in their right mind would willingly eat with strangers?
Beside him, Lin Xin was pouting with pleasure. She didn’t like Yao Ran’s suggestion, either.
Things had been going so well until they had reached the restaurant. Not only did they have no room, but they were also bullied into leaving altogether!
Forget about dining together, she had already lost her appetite just looking at Yao Ran and her companions.
“I’m with Meng Yang on this one,” Lin Xin said firmly, her voice filled with disgust.
Needless to say, Qin Jing also hated the idea. From what she had seen so far, she gathered that the mother and daughter were not easy to get along with.
If they sat down together and more trouble brewed, she was sure that they would pin the blame on her and her friends again.
“I’m the one who made the reservation first. Why should we share it with you? Stop acting like you’re being charitable, it makes me want to puke. The room is rightfully ours.”
At this point, Qin Jing decided to dispense with courtesy. These people didn’t deserve it anyway.
Madam Meng was angered, of course. No one had ever dared to disrespect her to her face.
But before she could say anything, Qin Jing spoke again. “If anything untoward happens to you after dinner, I just know that you’re going to blame us without a second thought.”
To begin with, they didn’t know each other. When one fell sick after sharing a table with strangers, it was only natural to suspect them.
Madam Meng’s face turned red. She was about to fly into a rage.
Seeing this, Yao Ran hastily stepped forward again. She reached out and patted the woman’s back.
“Don’t be angry, Madam. There are many eyes here. It’s not worth it to tarnish your reputation over something trivial. Let us not stoop down to their level.”
Her words prompted Madam Meng to look around. Sure enough, the other patrons were gawking at them.
In an establishment such as this, it wouldn’t be surprising if she knew a person or two among the crowd. If she were to lose her temper here, she would only embarrass herself.
Not to mention, her adversaries were just bumpkins. They weren’t even worthy of her attention.
“Hmph!” Madam Meng turned away from Qin Jing and said nothing more.
Yao Ran proceeded to approach Qin Jing. She raised her voice on purpose and said, “Come now, we are familiar with each other, aren’t we? It won’t be good to make too much of a scene here. You guys must be hungry, too, right? You’ve come a long way, after all. We should go and eat.”
If Yao Tang left now, Yao Ran’s efforts would be in vain.
She had to make these people stay.
After thinking for a while, Yao Ran changed directions and walked toward Yao Tang. “Sister,” she said in a voice barely above a whisper. “Don’t you want to know why Mom and Dad dislike you? Stay, and I will tell you.”
Yao Ran had known early on that Yao Tang served as the backbone of this little posse. She only had to say a word, and the rest would follow.
Therefore, she needed to convince Yao Tang to stay. And what better way to do that than prodding a sure sore spot?
In Yao Ran’s mind, Yao Tang must be dying to know why her own biological parents detested her.
After all, what child wouldn’t want their parents to like them?
