799 President Tan’s Awakening
The elders let out a collective sigh of relief. They liked this idea, it gave them some semblance of confidence.
If they chose the location, they could make sure that the enemy could not set up an ambush.
Perhaps they could have Elder Chen and his disciple back, after all.
This should be a nice development.
Now that most of the problems were cleared up, the elders were more or less at ease. It was only then that they realized Yao Tang was all by herself.
Where were the father and son that had left with her earlier?
They had been so worried about Yao Tang that President Tan and Tan Jian had slipped from their minds.
At some point, they figured that the two must have been detained and would appear sooner or later, but half a day had already passed, and they were still nowhere in sight.
This presented yet another conundrum.
Were those two injured, by any chance?
“Did Xiao Tan and his son not come with you?” Elder Xu asked worriedly. “Why don’t I see them anywhere? Were they hurt from the attack?”
“What! They were injured?”
“How are they? Where are they now?”
The elders asked one after another, their expressions filled with anxiety. They looked ready to go and look for President Tan at any second.
“No, they’re fine,” Yao Tang said. Then, seeing how worried they are, she continued to explain the situation.
“Teacher has awakened his spiritual powers. He was exhausted from the whole ordeal, so he wanted to get some rest instead of coming over.”
The elders blinked at her in surprise.
So that was how it was!”
The President had actually awakened through the incident. This, too, was a good thing, especially for President Tan.
Elder Li stroked his beard and smiled at Yao Tang. “So, Xiao Tan also had a hand in defeating Elder Nie’s people, eh? It makes a lot of sense now.”
When it came to spiritual strength, even novices had abilities that ordinary people couldn’t match.
Some of them could even take on a hundred enemies at once.
Considering President Tan’s newfound strength, it was no longer that surprising that they had beaten up those hooligans from the Green Cloud Pavilion.
Yao Tang saw her chance and nodded in earnest. “Yes, that’s exactly what happened!”
Since President Tan wasn’t around, there was no point in her telling the truth.
The elders had come up with their own analysis, anyway, so she might as well play along.
“You!” Elder Nie suddenly yelled.
He hated the satisfied smile on her face and wanted to expose her.
But his roar took a toll on his already weakened Qi, and he immediately spat out another mouthful of blood.
His blood splattered on the ground before him, and after a few seconds, Elder Nie passed out.
The Cabinet Elders thought nothing of his outburst. They were just relieved to finally have an explanation of how Yao Tang was able to return in one piece.
It turned out that President Tan had taken been the one to dispose of their enemies.
Although it was his first awakening, he had been practicing diligently over the years, and had accumulated a lot of energy within him. Once it exploded, he was definitely more than capable of dealing with several people.
“I didn’t think that Xiao Tan would have such an opportunity,” Elder Xu laughed jovially. “It appears that the incident is a blessing in disguise.”
He had grown rather fond of President Tan when he first discovered that he was Yao Tang’s teacher.
Even the usually cold Elder Wang nodded in approval. “Indeed. It’s a good thing that he came with Tangtang, or he would never have had such a fortuitous encounter.”
The other apprentices clicked their tongues and rolled their eyes when they heard this.
These old geezers were really biased toward their new junior sister.
Now, they were even saying that getting attacked was a blessing!
Elder Li chuckled and added, “We should admit Xiao Tan to the Cabinet as well, so he can practice with us. What an inspiring story this will make, master and disciple can practice together and learn from each other!”
The elders laughed in unison, and the atmosphere gradually turned from gloom to harmony.
His failure to enter the Cabinet had always been a sore spot for President Tan.
It made him feel inadequate, and he eventually let go of his hopes and resigned himself to his fate.
Who would have thought that his dream would come true so suddenly, and at his current age, too?
Everyone was sure that President Tan would be overjoyed once he heard of this.
“Tangtang,” Elder Xu said after a while. “What about the people that the traitor brought with him?”
He pointed at Elder Nie, who lay unconscious on the ground. “Are they also in the car you drove here?”
