Chapter 18
Yan city’s gates were long closed . When the village’s Zhou Rui and Zhou Qi reached it, they were mistaken for being robbers and were nearly shot at . When the guards heard that someone in the village was killed, they quickly went to inform the court Magistrate . After an hour, the gates to the city opened . Three officers and a sleepy coroner rode their horses out . After they asked for the exact location, they all rushed to the village .
Zhou Rui and Zhou Qi travelled alongside the horses . When they reached the village, the were so tired that they felt as if they would break down into sand . After they pointed at Li Shi’s house, they sat on the ground and tried to catch their breath .
Before, to prevent Li Shi from rearranging her clothes, Mu Yunyao knocked her out . She might have hit a little too hard as Li Shi stayed unconscious till the next morning .
The yellow light in the house made the facial features of the people in the house unclear . Li Shi though she saw a whole house filled with ghosts and started screaming hysterically . “Help! Save me! I was wrong, please don’t kill me, PLEASE DON’T KILL ME!!!”
It was a murder case, so no one dared to make any wrong move . The house was quiet until Li Shi started screaming, causing everyone to jump in fright .
“Li Shi, what happened?” When she saw Li Shi had awoken, chief Yang Ming quickly asked .
When she heard the familiar voice, Li Shi calmed down . “Sir, it was Mu Yunyao . Mu Yunyao killed someone . I saw it with my very own eyes! And she wanted to kill me too! She has been possessed by a ghost! Burn her, burn her!”
“You old hag, how could you have such a blackened heart? Yunyao is merely thirteen years old . How could she possibly kill two grown man?”
“That’s right . Even if you don’t like your daughter-in-law and your granddaughter, you can’t just blame them out of nowhere! This is a murder we’re talking about!”
Li Shi was starting to get anxious, “I’m telling the truth, why won’t you believe me? My leg was broken by Mu Yunyao, that little wrench! That fire was also set by her! You must believe me, you must believe me!”
“Grandma……” Mu Yunyao woke up in Su Qing’s arms . When she heard Li Shi’s words, her face turned as pale as a ghost . Tears fell from her face uncontrollably . “I did not, I don’t dare . ”
“You……” When Li Shi met Mu Yunyao’s eyes, her spine turned cold and she quickly turned her head to the side .
When the villagers saw her reaction, the little suspicion they had disappeared completely . Li Shi did not dare look into Mu Yunyao’s eyes because she was feeling guilty . They saw it clearly .
Su Qing held Mu Yunyao’s hand tightly, her heart was beating so fast that it felt that it was about to jump out . She had a feeling that all these things had a direct relationship to Mu Yunyao . Even so, Mu Yunyao must have had been pushed into a corner, she was a kind and obedient child, always had been .
Although the villagers had their suspicions, but since the officers had not arrived, they did not dare say anything . This had got to do with lives, if they said anything wrong, they would be greeted with endless misfortune .
“The officer is here!”
Mu Yunyao’s eyes shone, her clear eyes seemed to have been disturbed like a small breeze blowing at the lake .
When Li Shi saw the officer, she went from being dispirited to excitement . “Sir officer! Mu Yunyao is the murderer, she was the one who killed two people! You must lock her up, quickly lock her up!”
“Silence!” Although Yan city was not far from the Capital, it was still a small city . The officers usually just caught people who did petty tricks . But a murder was very rare, they hardly saw one . When they saw all the blood on the floor, their hearts were already trembling a little . And so when Li Shi started her screaming, they became incredibly annoyed .
“Sirs, this lowly citizen here is the village chief Yang Ming . The one who spoke just now was Li Shi . At midnight, some villagers heard Li Shi screaming out the word ‘murder’ . When we arrived, Li Shi’s granddaughter came running out covered with blood . When we entered the house, we found Zhang Caizhu and his butler Dingshan lying on the ground .
“Ah! Zhang Caizhu moved, he did not die……” Zhang Caizhu was closer to the table, the area around him was covered in blood . When the villagers saw Dingshan’s state, they assumed Zhang Caizhu was also dead . Who knew, he was only unconscious .
Zhang Yongan raised his head . When he saw that there were many people in the house- and they were all looking at him too- he got a fright and fell backwards, the dagger in his hands falling to the ground with a ‘clang’ .
When the officer saw the dagger, he immediately became anxious . “Where did you get that dagger from?”
“Ah, I……I don’t know……”
Mu Yunyao yelped . “Ahhhh, Mother! Zhang Caizhu wants to kill me! He has a knife! A really big knife! My arm was nearly cut off by him!”
When the officer heard this, he immediately used a rope to tie Zhang Yongan up .
“No, I didn’t kill anyone, I just……It was Su Qing! Su Qing seduced me! She asked me to come here at midnight to meet her . When I arrived, I saw that brat Mu Yunyao . Before I could react, I fell unconscious . I don’t know, I don’t know anything . ”
In a moment, everyone became confused . Why was Su Qing involved now?
