Chapter 591 - Fusion

With Silly now promoted to a new tier, almost all of Gao Peng’s familiars had reached Emperor-tier at the very least, except for Moneymaker.

After a while, Gao Peng summoned Da Zi to his side. He then called a visibly anxious Silly to him, as well. Silly had twisted its tentacles into knots and was clearly distressed.

“Gao Peng, are you going to punish me? If you are, I’m just going to run away right now,” said Silly while trembling. It had decided that it would flee at the slightest hint of trouble. Quick-witted Silly would definitely run away, not giving Gao Peng and company any chance for retribution.

“Let’s test out your new powers. Since you were only recently promoted, I figure you’re still not used to them,” said Gao Peng.

Silly sighed in relief. So that’s what you called me here for…

Gao Peng flew out into the ocean on Da Zi’s back. As they weren’t too far away from the island, there weren’t a lot of monsters in the water beneath them.

In just a short time, the island had become notorious for being an inhospitable place to live. A group of Overlord and Emperor-tier monsters seemed to have taken up residence there. Vicious ghouls lurked beneath the waves around the island, as well. There were swarms of them, and they came in all shapes and sizes, yet no monster dared trespass.

“Let’s try out your Spatial Flash ability first,” said Gao Peng.

Spatial Flash was perhaps the most basic Spatial-type ability commonly seen in Spatial-type monsters. It was also what separated the latter from monsters of other elemental attributes.

Spatial Flash was another name for spatial displacement. It was also known by other names such as teleportation or instant displacement. It had many names, but there was little to no difference between them.

However, Gao Peng had noticed something interesting about it. The Ocean Lurker’s Spatial Flash ability, for instance, had a noticeable restriction on its usage. Gao Peng had noticed a small delay between the Ocean Lurker’s jumps. It also seemed incapable of carrying out two consecutive Spatial Flashes in a short span of time.

Gao Peng had no idea what the main reason was behind such a limitation. However, he had also noticed that one of Silly’s passive abilities allowed it to activate multiple Spatial Flashes with little to no delay between them.

He didn’t know to what extent it would actually affect Silly’s activation time. In an instant, Silly vanished on the spot. A moment later, it popped back into existence at least 300 feet away.

“Is that your farthest distance?” asked Gao Peng.

“No. Didn’t you just want me to test out my Spatial Flash?” said Silly, scratching its head with one of its tentacles.

“Then give it everything you’ve got this time. I want to see how far you can teleport yourself.”

“All right!” Silly began mustering every bit of its energy into its next Spatial Flash, its eyes staring straight at its destination.

Whoop! Its body vanished once again into thin air. In the next second, it reappeared three miles away. It was able to teleport across three miles with just one Spatial Flash.

Gao Peng frowned. He had no idea just how useful such an ability would be on the field. While three miles was certainly not something to sneeze at, Flowing Light could also cover the same distance at top speed in one or two seconds.

“Now try multiple Spatial Flashes this time,” said Gao Peng.

Silly vanished again before reappearing in the distance as a blurry shape. Before its body came into focus, it vanished once more in a consecutive series of popping sounds. Then, it disappeared completely.

Where the hell did Silly teleport to? thought Gao Peng with a frown. This little rascal…

He opened his mouth, before realizing that he didn’t know what to say. Through his Blood Contract connection with it, he shouted after Silly, “Get your slimy butt over here this instant!”

“Uhm? But Gao Peng, my butt’s not that slimy.”

“Then could you get your not-slimy butt over here this instant, pretty please, with a cherry on top?” said Gao Peng a bit too sweetly. This Light of the Soul ability is incredible.

“Gao Peng, I’m too tired to teleport back to you,” Silly’s voice suddenly echoed in Gao Peng’s head. It took a bit longer for Silly to return to Gao Peng than when it started teleporting to god knows where.

One thing was for certain: Silly could definitely activate its Spatial Flash multiple times in a short span of time.

“Go take a rest,” Gao Peng said to Silly.

After a while, Gao Peng went to check up on Silly and see just how much its portable space had expanded. He found out that its portable space had expanded quite a lot. It could probably fit the entire Yuzhou University inside itself if it wanted to.

At this point, its portable space could be rechristened as a strategic storage space. One could easily store an entire city’s food reserve in such a huge space.

Finally, Gao Peng decided to test Silly’s only offensive ability. “Silly, activate your Spatial Riot ability.”

Silly grunted as its tentacles floated up around it. Nothing seemed to have changed in the area around it. However, Gao Peng suddenly sensed that something had changed in the spatial fabric before him. He just couldn’t put his finger on it.

Puzzled, he strained his eyes at the space in front of him. There was a chance that the effect of Silly’s Spatial Riot ability couldn’t be seen by the naked eye.

“Da Zi, can you see what’s happening?”

Da Zi cocked its head to the side while observing the seemingly empty space before it. After a while, it said, “Something’s definitely happening… For some reason, the air here suddenly feels… oppressive.”

Gao Peng fell silent for a moment. Then, he looked at Silly. Even though it was able to activate its Spatial Riot ability, Gao Peng figured that one had to be equipped with a Spatial-type ability in order to see what was going on.

Naturally, Gao Peng didn’t have any Spatial-type ability to speak of. He was just a trainer after all, not a human-like familiar.

However, Gao Peng had an ability that allowed him to use any of his familiars’ powers temporarily. Only Overlord-tier trainers would have access to such an ability. He placed his right hand on Silly’s head, initiating contact with the latter’s spirit. In an instant, Gao Peng’s body began to blur… until he completely disappeared from the spot.

Silly suddenly froze. A second later, its movements returned to normal. Gao Peng was now looking at things from a unique point of view; he was looking at the world around him through Silly’s eyes.

Most jellyfish didn’t have eyes in the strictest sense of the word. They did, however, possess a unique set of photoreceptive sensory organs to help them navigate their surroundings.

Through Silly’s eyes, Gao Peng was able to see that everything in a ten-mile radius around it had transformed into a mire of sorts! It was as if Silly had placed a distorted film of glass over the world.

The jellyfish was apparently able to muddle the spatial fabric around it with its Spatial Riot ability. Under such circumstances, one could probably imagine how hard it would be for other familiars to activate their own Spatial-type abilities.

This wasn’t the first time Gao Peng had fused his consciousness with Silly’s. He wanted to try out Silly’s ability himself. However, as it wasn’t his body to begin with, it wouldn’t be possible for him to pull it off right away.

If they were in an actual fight, he would probably be better off letting his familiars keep full control of their faculties. As the actual owners of their own bodies, his familiars had more experience and mastery in using their own abilities than Gao Peng. The only advantage he could provide by fusing with them was a more intelligent consciousness taking control of their bodies.

Gao Peng tried to activate Silly’s Power of Space ability. Unfortunately, due to his unfamiliarity with the finer points of the jellyfish’s body, his aim was off by 18,000 miles. Fortunately, the Spatial Riot ability had a wide range. Even though his aim was off, the discharge of spatial energy was still within the Spatial Riot’s range.

As soon as the energy entered the visibly affected spatial fabric, it began crackling like a drop of water that had fallen into a pan of scalding hot oil! Pop, pop—

The chaotic state of the spatial fabric before Gao Peng spread out even more, as if it was suddenly excited. Moments later, sharp spatial blades flew out from the point of the explosion.

“What’s going on, Gao Peng?” exclaimed Da Zi as it saw spatial blades cutting through the air in front of it.
