Prof Liu was caught by surprise. “Someone to help externally?”
“Uh huh. You know him too. It’s Yuan Huan,” said Zhao Lian as he smiled.
“Oh!” Prof Liu found this inconceivable. “Would he even participate in student level research?”
Yuan Huan was only 25 years old, but he was already a senior researcher at the National Research Institute for Life Sciences. However, the man had a mind of his own and never showed his face unless it was a very special project.

“Okay then.” Prof Liu nodded. He glanced at the documents Qi Hui had just sent over before raising his head to look at Qi Hui. He asked. “Have you received the research proposal and funding request from Bioinformatics?”
Qi Hui’s heart palpitated nervously before he hurriedly said, “I have already received it, but I forgot to bring them over.”
Prof Liu frowned. “Bring them over now.”
Qi Hui glanced at him. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead before he nodded. “I will go get it now.”
The moment he finished his sentence, he strode out of the office quickly.
Zhao Lian shook his head. He did not continue with the subject and simply stood up. “I still have to go back to the research institute, so I will leave you to it, Prof Liu.”
“Sure. See you around.” Prof Liu stood up and spoke politely.
Before long, Qi Hui came back with the research proposal and funding request form. He was briefly caught by surprise when he noticed that Zhao Lian had left. He reverently handed the documents to Prof Liu.
Prof Liu took the research proposal but did not look at it. Instead, his eyes landed on Qi Hui. After some time, he finally said, “Do you know why I scolded you earlier?”
Qi Hui kept his head lowered and did not dare to look at him. “I made a mistake.”
Prof Liu held up the documents in his hands and rapped Qi Hui’s head. “You are such an idiot. Although Zhao Lian looks harmless, he plots secretly. Do you think he was just saying that to mock you?”
Qi Hui raised his head. He did not quite understand what Prof Liu was trying to tell him.
Prof Liu shook his head speechlessly. He walked up to the office desk, pulled out the chair, and took a seat before he slammed the table. “I single-handedly groomed you. If he satirizes you, it is as good as ridiculing me, right?”
Back in the day, when Prof Liu had reached retirement age, the university wanted to make Zhao Lian the department fellow, but he was uninterested in the position and turned down the offer. Prof Liu ended up being rehired and continued working as the Biology department fellow.
However, anyone with eyes could see that Zhao Lian was a capable man. Even though they were both senior researchers at the institute, Zhao Lin was far better than Prof Liu.
“Stop nursing petty grievances and making trouble all the time. You should focus on making real contributions to the department.”
Prof Liu regretted promoting Qi Hui back in the day. He had been such a disappointment over the time. He picked up his pen and signed on Liu Qian’s funding request right away.
Qi Hui pursed his lips without daring to say a word. The moment he saw Prof Liu approving the funding request, he could not resist asking. “Aren’t you even going to take a look at the proposal before you decide?”
Prof Liu pursed his lips in disdain.. He tossed the pen aside, leaned into his seat powerlessly, and said mockingly, “What is there to see? Prof Zhao has even found himself extra help. Do you think I am still in the position to reject the request?”
