Zhao Lian was around when Qi Hui went over to Prof Liu’s office and they talked about research.
Both of them were important people in the department and worked for the national research institute, except there was a slight difference in the direction of their research.
“Prof Liu, here is the information you need.” Qi Hui placed a set of documents on the office table reverently.
Prof Liu was 65 years old, but there were hardly any wrinkles on his face. He had serious-looking features and felt more like a government official than Zhao Lian.
He nodded before he waved his hand and gestured for Qi Hui to leave.
Qi Hui acknowledged softly before turning to leave. A thought suddenly occurred to Prof Liu, so he called Qi Hui back.
“I heard one of your research archives got leaked.” Prof Liu frowned as he looked at Qi Hui. “How could you be so careless? Have you found out who did it?”
The moment Qi Hui heard what Prof Liu said, cold sweat broke out in his hands. Leaks were a serious matter. He glanced at Prof Liu cautiously before looking at Prof Zhao and replied. “I am sorry. I failed to ensure the security of the archives. I have yet to find the culprit.”
If Zhao Lian was not around, he might have brought up Liu Qian’s involvement in the matter. Unfortunately…
Qi Hui lowered his eyes slightly. Since he had no ironclad evidence, he could only suck it up.
He could not afford to offend Zhao Lian either.
“You are the department head, but you made such a huge mistake,” scolded Prof Liu without holding back.
Qi Hui lowered his head when Prof Liu reprimanded him.
Zhao Lian picked up his teacup and took a sip without looking at Qi Hui and said mildly, “I think it is about time to make changes to some department policies.”
Qi Hui did not dare to respond on hearing this.
Instead, Prof Liu asked in surprise. “Why?”
Zhao Lian adjusted his posture and leaned his hand on the couch armrest. “We can’t let people get away with bias and abuse of power. Don’t you agree, Prof Liu?”
The moment he finished his sentence, Qi Hui instantly felt embarrassed.
Prof Liu glanced at Qi Hui. He naturally knew who Zhao Lian was talking about. Moreover, he knew Qi Hui’s personality well. He simply acknowledged softly and nodded. “That is true. We cannot let people do unethical things in the department.”
Zhao Lian smiled without continuing with the subject. “Oh yes. Bioinformatics has come up with a research proposal. Have you received their proposal and funding request, Prof Liu?”
The moment Qi Hui heard this, he straightened his back nervously.
“Not yet. Then again, did they come up with new research to conduct?” Prof Liu was clearly astonished to hear this. “What is it about?”
Zhao Lian glanced at Qi Hui upon hearing this and said, “AL research.”
Prof Liu suddenly recalled a matter and said, “Are you talking about the AI research project that the Science and Technology department is working on?”
Zhao Lian nodded. “That is right. There are still flaws in their research. If we are able to help solve their problems, we will be making a huge contribution.”
“That’s true.” Prof Liu felt it was important for them to uphold the reputation of the Biology department.
He paused before he said, “Bioinformatics hasn’t done any such research in years. From the looks of it, the students in recent years are pretty average.”
“I wouldn’t say that. They simply aren’t given the opportunity to show their worth.” Zhao Lian sighed. He paused for a few seconds before he continued.. “That is the reason I hired some external help for them.”
