Just when Yuan Huan thought it was over, the intruder pushed him back into the driver’s seat. He looked straight ahead with his eyes glazed over. Gunshot could be heard and he could sense something piercing through his chest.
Yuan Huan looked up at the windshield and could see a hole in it.
It was a penetrating shot.
Yuan Huan opened his eyes wide in horror.
He was now able to move, so he lowered his head slowly and stared at his chest, only to see blood gushing from it.
Yuan Huan automatically raised his hand to clutch his chest but the blood simply trickled down through his fingers and his face turned pale slowly.
The car automatically pulled up. Huo Yao pursed her lips as she glanced at the hole in the windshield expressionlessly. She smiled before she opened the car door and got off.
The wind gusted in the night leaving some stray hair fluttering on her forehead. Her beautiful eyes could be seen behind the mask.
Yuan Huan had lost consciousness. He leaned against the car door limply. He watched the woman disappear into the darkness through the rearview mirror with his eyes glazed over. It felt as though he had just encountered the grim reaper.

Meanwhile, inside the car. Huo Yao leaned against the seat backrest quietly.
Chen Ming was driving. He was tailing Yuan Huan’s car from a distance. When he heard the gunshot, he was petrified.
He kept looking at Huo Yao through the rearview mirror quizzically. After hesitating for some time, he finally stammered. “M-miss Huo, do you know how to use a gun?”
It was quiet in the car, so Chen Ming’s voice could be heard clearly. Huo Yao was looking out of the car window, but she slowly veered her eyes. Her eyes remained bright and clear. She paused briefly before she replied candidly. “I played with guns when I was young.”
Chen Ming’s lips twitched. Did she play with guns when she was young?
Shouldn’t children play with toy guns?
It sounded like she was lying to him again.
Chen Ming cleared his throat and changed the subject. “What about Yuan Huan…”
“He’ll live.”
Huo Yao shrugged. She thought about the methods of torture available at the Ministry of National Security. It would be a pity if Yuan Huan could not try them for himself.
After all, he nearly got her third older brother killed a second time.
Chen Ming cleared his throat and said, “Shall I send the surveillance footage to the Ministry of National Security later?”
“You don’t have to.”
Huo Yao had already recovered the academy’s surveillance footage earlier in the day. Since Yuan Huan had attempted to scapegoat others for his crimes, it would not be nice if she did not react in kind.
This gunshot was considered a gift from her and it would officially make him a suspect.
Didn’t he keep saying the intruder was injured in the chest?
In that case, she was happy to create evidence.
Huo Yao pursed her lips.

The next day at the National Academy of Medicine inside President Cao’s office.
Shortly after President Cao arrived at the office, his assistant anxiously entered the room.
“Is someone from the Virus Research Institute looking for me?” President Cao looked at the assistant and felt puzzled. He had just gone over to the Virus Research Institute yesterday, but things did not end pleasantly.
“Uh huh. Director Wang looks very serious this time. He’s demanding an explanation from you,” replied the assistant.
President Cao frowned. An explanation? Why?
He must be insane.
He paused before he continued. “Fine. Send him to my office then.”
“Okay.”
Before long, the assistant sent Director Wang to President Cao’s office.
Director Wang slammed the document in his hands on the president’s table hard. “President Cao, please take a look at this. I didn’t want to mention it, but the academy is too much. I gave it a long hard thought last night. Let me make things clear. We won’t allow the institute to be made into a scapegoat.”
