Mother Shi’s wailing, intermingled with the curses and surrounding noise, made Si Jingyu feel as though her ears were ringing.
She made eye contact with Shi Jinyan. Her vision blurry and obstructed by her tears, she saw Shi Jinyan’s lips part. Although he said it softly, she heard what he said clearly.
He said, “Yes, Mother, I promise.”
