The dessert shop next to the university was empty at the moment.
In the empty shop, Jian Yiling and Zhai Yunsheng were the only people that were seated.
“This is for you.”
Zhai Yunsheng suddenly brought out a small pendant and threw it in front of Jian Yiling in a very casual manner.
Jian Yiling looked at the pendant in front of her.
A translucent jade pendant hung from a thin black cord.
The pendant itself was not large. It was the size of Zhai Yunsheng’s thumbnail.
In comparison, it was slightly larger than Jian Yiling’s own thumbnail.
There were many ancient characters that were engraved on the surface of the jade pendant.
It appeared to be an elegant yet simple jade pendant.
Jian Yiling didn’t pick up the jade pendant right away. Instead, she looked at Zhai Yunsheng with a puzzled expression.
It wasn’t Christmas, nor was it her birthday. Why was she receiving a gift?
Zhai Yunsheng tried to explain rather casually: “We haven’t seen each other in three years. It’s just a greeting gift.”
Upon hearing this, Jian Yiling still didn’t reach out to accept the gift.
Zhai Yunsheng leaned back lazily in his chair: “It’s not something that’s valuable. It’s just a gift from me. You have to wear it properly. Just consider it as a punishment for breaking your promise.”
Punishment?
Was asking someone to wear a jade pendant a punishment?
However, it was true that the jade pendant did not seem to be a valuable object. At the very least, it did not seem pricey for Zhai Yunsheng.
Yet, it was still a gift.
“This isn’t a punishment,” Jian Yiling argued back.
“Well, I’m saying that it is,” Zhai Yunsheng replied. His attitude on this matter was set.
It was Zhai Yunsheng’s first time trying to coax a girl. He wasn’t very experienced in persuading her.
He could only order her to accept the gift as she was in the wrong for breaking her promise.
To his surprise, his words were rather effective on Jian Yiling.
She picked up the jade pendant on the desk and wore it. The jade pendant that appeared to be nothing special hung from her neck.
The small jade pendant wasn’t dazzling to the eye. However, it suited Jian Yiling quite well.
After Jian Yiling wore the pendant, a satisfied expression appeared on Zhai Yunsheng’s face.

At the Zhai Residence.
In the last two years, Master Zhai finally had some time to rest.
His grandson was finally willing to take over the family business from him.
However, this was not enough to make him happy.
For Master Zhai, the most important thing for him was for his grandson to get married. He wanted a great-grandson already. Taking over the family business was secondary to that.
One of Master Zhai’s subordinates came to report to him on some of the latest developments.
Towards the end of his report, his subordinate said: “Master Zhai, someone said that they saw a girl wearing the Zhai family’s jade pendant in the capital. It’s the pendant that belongs to the matriarch of the Zhai family.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. He must have made a mistake! No one has worn that jade pendant for so many years already.”
Master Zhai’s wife had left him early. She had only left him two sons to accompany him.
However, not long after his eldest son got married, his eldest son’s wife had passed away. She had left him a grandson who was wailing piteously for food.
As his only grandson grew up, that kid had refused to marry someone as well.
As for his second son, he was still unmarried.
And thus, there were only three single men in the Zhai family! None of them were going to wear the pendant anytime soon.
Furthermore, no one had seen that jade pendant for so many years!
“According to the report, the person who is wearing the Morning Frost jade pendant is the girl who played in the tournament with Master Sheng a while ago.”
As it was someone who Master Sheng knew, the subordinates had made a special note about it when they saw her wearing the pendant.
“What?” Master Zhai stuttered. The antique Yixing clay teapot in his hands fell to the ground and shattered.
However, Master Zhai didn’t even glance at the teapot. Instead, he quickly asked his subordinate: “Are you saying that the girl that is suspected to be wearing our family jade pendant is the young girl from the Jian family?”
