“Why? Do you know why you did those things in the past then?” Qin Chuan asked Jian Yiling rhetorically.
Qin Chuan was now experiencing Jian Yiling’s ending in the original novel.
He was experiencing what she previously experienced.
“I didn’t have a choice whereas you do,” Jian Yiling replied.
“I don’t have a choice either,” Qin Chuan said.
Qin Chuan knew Jian Yiling understood what he was feeling. In fact, she was probably the only person in this world who could relate to what he did.
However, in this life, she decided to be sensible, calm, and rational. She no longer had any attachment to him and she did not care about him either.
“I will do everything I can to save you,” Jian Yiling said.
“Why would you want to save me?” Qin Chuan asked. The dead look in his eyes flickered momentarily because of Jian Yiling’s words.
“I don’t want you to become the person I once was.”
“Is it because of sympathy?”
“No.”
“Then why?” Qin Chuan asked. He wanted to know the answer to this question.
However, Jian Yiling did not know the answer to this question either.
When Qin Chuan did not receive a reply, in his heart, he arrived at an answer. Why was he expecting anything anyway?
Qin Chuan smiled bitterly and said: “Yiling, it’s not your fault. You don’t need to feel bad for me.”
“Maybe I’m just helping because of your mother and Yufan,” Jian Yiling said. “You should cherish them. They’re your family.”
If there was anything that made his current life happier than the last, it would be the presence of his mother and sister.
He had the affection that he did not have in his last life.
After a moment of silence, Qin Chuan asked Jian Yiling: “If Zhai Yunsheng did not exist, would you fall in love with me again?”

Without giving Qin Chuan an option to refuse, Jian Yiling turned around and left the ward.
When she left the room, Qin Chuan’s mother and Qin Yufan hurriedly gathered around Jian Yiling. Both of them looked at her nervously but they didn’t know what to ask.
“I will perform the operation on him,” Jian Yiling said to them.
Qin Chuan’s mother instantly wanted to kneel down in front of Jian Yiling.
However, Jian Yiling stopped her: “There’s no need to thank me. I just hope he’ll be willing to accept the surgery.”
After saying that, Jian Yiling walked away with the hospital director and Qin Chuan’s attending doctor.
Qin Chuan’s mother immediately entered the ward and attempted to persuade her son to accept Jian Yiling’s surgery. She did not want him to give up hope in life.
Even though Qin Chuan did not reject his mother, his gaze remained like a pool of stagnant water.
When Qin Yufan saw this, she raised her hand and slapped Qin Chuan in the face.
“Slap–”
In theory, Qin Chuan would not feel the pain as he took painkillers.
However, this slap inflicted a sharp stab of pain into his heart.
Qin Yufan scolded Qin Chuan: “What are you doing now? Why are you upset? In the past, I liked Zhai Yunsheng and he didn’t like me back. Right now, I like Jian Yichen and he doesn’t like me back either! What can be done? You can’t get everything you want in life. According to you, should I give up my life if I can’t get them to like me? Should I die several times for it?”
