While Nanyang was accompanied by her bridesmaids to change into her gown, Jing Ning was already flying all over the place, making connections. Of course, he was always 5 steps from Ye Qian.
Ye Qian held Gu Nian’s arm as she smiled and chatted with people around her. She didn’t even glance at Jing Ning.
Eventually, Gu Nian saw us. He removed Ye Qian’s grasp on him and told her something before he turned to us.
Mai Qi nudged me with her elbow. “You’ve successfully broken the balance.”
With a smile on my face, I said through gritted teeth, “If you abandon me to deal with this alone, we will never be friends again!”
Mai Qi looked ahead but stretched her hand towards me. “What’s in it for me?”
I patted her palm and said, “Anything you want except Jing Tian!” Mai Qi rolled her eyes at me.
I smiled elegantly and demurely. I didn’t miss out on the eye contact between Lu Yan and Ye Qian. Lu Yan’s face paled and Ye Qian’s smile disappeared. Others might think it was because Ye Qian was abandoned by Gu Nian but I knew it was due to Lu Yan beside me.
Gu Nian stopped before me. “Nanxing, long time no see.”
Honestly, it was not that long. However, Jing Tian didn’t want me to meet with Gu Nian in private anymore. I smiled. “Aren’t you Ye Qian’s date? If her eyes can shoot daggers, we’d be dead already.”
Gu Nian shrugged, “I am just a tool, you know that. Furthermore, if I can die with you, I don’t mind it.”
I looked around but couldn’t find Jing Tian. I shook my head. “Master Liu, we better watch our words.”
Gu Nian’s eyes deepened with affection. “It’s alright, Nanxing. I respect your choice but I will always stay by your side. Jing Tian better lives up to his promises or else I will swoop in at any time.”
This was very embarrassing for me.
Mai Qi chuckled. “Master Liu, you are making me break out in goosebumps. Honestly, I have a mission today and I cannot stay more than a foot away from Nanxing. Master Liu, I hope you can understand that.”
Gu Nian’s smile was gentle. “Miss Mai Qi is Nanxing’s best friend. It’s only natural for you to stay by her side as long as you don’t chase me away.”
Mai Qi smiled. “If I do chase you away, will you go?”
Gu Nian smiled back. “No.”
I sighed. “This conversation is so embarrassing.”
Mai Qi turned to look at me. “Sister Xing, I didn’t know you’d feel embarrassment.” I hit her with a laugh. Gu Nian looked at us with big smiles. His eyes radiated kindness and admiration.
I sighed. “Master Liu, I really don’t know what is so good about me that I’d be in your sight.” Gu Nian smiled and said nothing.
Mai Qi sighed. “Sister Xing, I’m wondering the same question. I don’t think I’m uglier than you, so why aren’t there men chasing after me?”
I looked at her with a mixture of anger and amusement. “My dear princess, do you want me to gather the men that you’ve rejected since you’ve arrived at M City? You’d rather announce that you are a couple with me than face those men. And you’re saying there are no men pursuing you?”
Mai Qi smiled sheepishly, “Quality over quantity. I mean none of them are as high quality as Master Liu.”
Gu Nian pressed his lips and coughed. “Miss Mai Qi is a lot more clever with words now. This must be Nanxing’s influence. I should inform Qu Hao. If he knows that you are looking for a boyfriend, he’d come running!”
Mai Qi’s expression changed as she shook her hands. “Master Liu, why would you do that? I haven’t done anything to offend you, have I?”
