When the host asked if Nanyang was willing to take Jing Ning as her lawfully-wedded husband, Nanyang shouted loudly, “I do!”
When Jing Ning was posed the same question, his gaze glanced towards the guest. He couldn’t find the person he wanted to see. The host had to repeat the question. Then Jing Ning pulled his gaze back and uttered indifferently, “I do.”
I could sense the host sigh in relief as he continued with the ritual.
At that moment, the door opened. This interrupted the ceremony and everyone turned to look. It was Master Gu Er who had arrived with Ye Qian and Gu Yan. Gu Nian was with them too.
Jing Ning instinctively took a step towards the door but Nanyang held him back.
Ye Qian didn’t once glance at the altar. She held Gu Nian’s arm and walked in gracefully. Gu Nian’s eyes scanned the crowd to look for me. Before he spotted me, I hid behind Mai Qi. I accidentally saw that Lu Yan’s face had turned pale and her hands gripped into fists. Her eyes were on Ye Qian. They are related somehow.
The wedding continued. But Jing Ning’s heart wasn’t in it, he even got his vows wrong.
I pulled on Lu Yan’s cold fingers and whispered, “Lu Yan, don’t be nervous. This is a chance for you to learn. When you are getting married, Mai Qi and I will throw a bigger wedding for you.” I turned to Mai Qi, “Am I right, princess?”
Mai Qi raised her head proudly, “Of course!” Then she added, “Wait. If Lu Yan is getting married, shouldn’t her husband be the one organizing the wedding? Why should we get involved?”
I smiled, “No one would mind a sponsor, right, Lu Yan?’
Lu Yan smiled gently, “Of course, if the sponsor is Mai Qi, I’m all for it.” I noticed with shock that Lu Yan could handle herself well. Her gaze wandered around Ye Qian but the emotions in her eyes had dimmed. I sighed internally, She’s good!
Nanxing from the previous life had truly lived in vain. She had never once experienced the beauty of life. She didn’t even notice the web of complicated relationships around her.
After the ceremony ended, Jing Ning told Nanyang something and hurried down from the altar. He strode towards Master Gu Er and greeted him politely. Master Gu Er congratulated him with big smiles.
Jing Ning looked uncomfortable as he glanced at Ye Qian. Ye Qian’s hand was still on Gu Nian’s arm. She smiled and congratulated Jing Ning too. Jing Ning’s face darkened further as his eyes landed on Gu Nian. Gu Nian smiled faintly. He wanted to extricate himself from this situation but Ye Qian refused to let him go.
What a good show!
I stood at the buffet table and enjoyed it to my heart’s content.
Mai Qi yawned and asked, “Why are you so interested in these fake dramas?”
I smiled. “My dear princess, you have to put your heart into it. Once you figure out the background of each character, you’ll find it exciting too.”
Mai Qi rolled her eyes. Mai Qi didn’t know that I had been having a deja vu feeling all day. Everything was the same but the bride.
However, at least on my wedding day in my previous life, I was happy. I still had my happy bubble.
But Nanyang was not that lucky. She knew that her days ahead would not be related to any happiness.
