“Mother, why did you let her go?” Bai Xiachen asks after tugging at his mother’s sleeve.
Rubbing the boy’s head as a sign of reassurance, Bai Yan dons the familiar shallow smile of a scheming fox: “We’re using her as bait to lure out the big fish.”
Enlightened on his face, the little steambun blooms a lovely smile in return: “I understand then, Mother is so thoughtful. Cast the bait to catch the big fish!”

Thickening in her smile over that adorable comment, Bai Yan leans down to lift the little missy up: “Don’t worry, you will understand in the future.”

Meanwhile on the other side, Bai Ning has fallen into a contemplative state.
