An’an gradually opened her eyes.
When all she saw was a vault, she took a few seconds to realize she was in her own room and lying on her bed.
“An’an, you’re awake?” A sensual voice sounded in her ears.
An’an looked beside her, it was Tang Mo’er.
“Little sister-in-law, how long have I been asleep?”
“It’s the afternoon now.”
What?!
She had been asleep from dawn till the afternoon?
Lu Yan!
Where was the cordyceps?
An’an searched for her purse, it was missing. Her clothes were already changed.
Where had her purse gone?
An’an sat up and asked frantically, “Little sister-in-law, where’s my purse?”
“An’an, it’s here.” Tang Mo’er handed the purse over to An’an.
An’an opened it up and she heaved a sigh of relief when she saw the cordyceps laying safely in the purse. Thank god, she hadn’t lost it.
“An’an, you got yourself injured all over just to search for this herb?” Tang Mo’er asked.
An’an had fainted outside her room door and was discovered by Tang Mo’er. There were many wounds all over her body, it was all caused by the spiky thorns. Thankfully, they were all superficial wounds and Tang Mo’er had already dressed them.
An’an lifted her blanket and got down the bed. “Lu Yan, this herb is able to save Lu Yan’s life. I need to go and find him right away.”
“An’an.” Tang Mo’er instantly held onto An’an’s hand, it was icy cold.
An’an paused for a moment, she turned her head around and looked at Tang Mo’er, only to notice Tang Mo’er’s face was solemn.
Her heart thumped, she had fainted for no reason and that was a telltale sign.
“An’an, your leukemia has relapsed.”
An’an froze for a moment, but she quickly recovered and smiled. “Little sister-in-law, I’m aware of that. The medicine hasn’t been working recently. I’ve been feeling giddy frequently and I know it’s because my leukemia has relapsed.
“Little sister-in-law, don’t be too sad. I’ve been born with leukemia and I’m already satisfied to be able to live well until now. After all, I’m 18 years old.”
Tang Mo’er’s eyes turned red, she quickly ran in front and hugged An’an’s frail body. “Why? Why must it happen now?”
An’an’s relapse had happened at the wrong time. Tang Mo’er was already pregnant.
She would be able to use the cord blood to save An’an’s life once the baby was born.
She had been pregnant for three months already, she just needed seven more months.
But why?
An’an had survived 18 years of leukemia, why wasn’t she given those extra seven months?
Stretching out her hands, An’an patted Tang Mo’er’s back, comforting her. “Little sister-in-law, don’t be sad because of me. I’m not afraid of it at all, because… I’ve been preparing myself for it all along.”
She had been preparing herself….to face death.
“An’an, don’t spout nonsense, nothing will happen to you!” Tang Mo’er spoke with certainty.
Knock knock, the door was pushed open and someone appeared beside the door. It was Gu Mohan.
Tang Mo’er quickly let go of An’an and wiped away the tears on her face.
Gu Mohan walked into the room, glancing at Tang Mo’er first before his gaze shifted onto An’an. “An’an, your condition is getting worse and the medicine you’re taking is not enough to keep your leukemia under control. But don’t worry, I’ve already arranged for your treatment in the hospital, you just have to stay there to undergo chemotherapy. Please just hold up in there for seven months, once the time is up, we’ll have a way to save you with the cord blood.”
An’an glanced at Gu Mohan. “Brother, what if the stem cell transplant doesn’t work?”
Pursing his lips, Gu Mohan looked at An’an with a stern gaze. “An’an, what are you trying to say?”
An’an lowered her lashes and shook her head. “I’m not trying to say anything.”
Gu Mohan furrowed his brows. “We’re going to head back in just a few days after handling all these matters.”
“Oh.” An’an responded. She held onto her purse tightly and said, “I’ll run my errands first then.”
Her only errand was Lu Yan.
…
An’an had left and Gu Mohan glanced at Tang Mo’er. He lifted his hand and caressed her face. “Mo’er.”
His calloused fingertips ran over her delicate skin and Tang Mo’er felt her goosebumps rise in short order. She quickly took two steps backwards, avoiding his touch.
Gu Mohan’s hand was left suspended in mid-air, ever since his split personality took control of him the other time, Tang Mo’er had started avoiding him since then.
He retracted his hand, speaking with a deep and magnetic voice. “Mo’er, the next few days are going to be eventful. You shan’t run around recklessly, remember to just be good and stay in your own room, understood?”
Tang Mo’er placed her hand on her tummy and nodded. “Got it.”
She then stretched her legs out and walked away.
Like that, she had left.
Gu Mohan stood on the spot, watching her leave and he didn’t avert his gaze even after she was long gone.
…
Lu Yan’s drug addiction had acted up again when An’an left last night and it happened again right when An’an visited him again today.
Lu Yan’s condition was getting worse by the day. His entire face was drained of color and drops of perspiration trickled down, he wasn’t looking good at all.
“Brother Li, have you found the cordyceps?” An Xi asked.
Li Si shook his head. “I’ve asked the TCM pharmacist, she told me that it’s extremely rare and only found in the deep mountains. I’ve provided a monetary reward for many people to head inside the deep mountains to go look for it but there hasn’t been any news yet. They probably haven’t found it.”
An Xi’s face darkened. “We need to go and find some other alternatives then.”
An Xi went over to open the door and there was a lithe figure standing outside. It was An’an.
What was she doing here?
“Miss An’an, why are you here again? Can you please stop coming. Brother Ah Yan is already in such a state, why are you still here to look for him? There’s nothing you can get out of him already.” An Xi frowned as she spoke to An’an.
Li Si had walked over too and he looked in An’an’s eyes as he said, “Miss An’an, hadn’t I made myself clear yesterday? Can you please stop disturbing us? If you really do care for Yan Zi, you shouldn’t be pestering him, especially now.”
They were both Lu Yan’s closest friends and both of them stopped her at the door. An’an wasn’t able to get inside.
An’an looked over their shoulders, they tied Lu Yan on the chair again in order to stop him from harming himself.
“The two of you should get out,” An’an said instead.
Li Si and An Xi’s faces darkened. This An’an was asking them to get out?
“Miss An’an, you’re being very annoying.”
Annoying?
Whatever.
It didn’t matter even if his best friends weren’t fond of her.
An’an opened her fist and showed them the cordyceps, before she threatened them with a wry smile on her face. “If you still want to save Lu Yan’s life, get out now. And that means the both of you.”
