The baby was very obedient. She accompanied her mother and did not disturb her mother even the slightest bit. In her mother’s belly, she only sucked her thumb and slept.
Could she be that baby?
Lu Jinwen lowered his eyes and looked at Tang Mo’er’s beautiful face. She was indeed the spitting image of her mother. She was softly calling for her mother. She really missed her mother and she yearned for the motherly love she never had a chance to experience for herself.
The DNA paternity test report had been revealed. She was indeed his biological daughter.
And so, it turned out that she was the daughter that Lin Xuanji gave birth to.
He thought that he did not like the daughter Lin Xuanji gave birth to.
He did not like Lu Qi’er at all.
But now, looking at the familiar face, he felt faint pricks of pain in his heart.
Lu Jinwen slowly stretched out his large palm and stroked Tang Mo’er’s sleeping little face.
…
The next morning.
Tang Mo’er’s high fever had subsided, but she was still averse to food. The emotional agitation that she had suffered, in addition to the toxicity of the love pea poison had made her droop like a flower. She threw up the sips of water that Auntie Wu had fed her.
Auntie Wu went to the kitchen to cook porridge. When she returned to the room, she realized that it was empty and that Tang Mo’er had disappeared.
“Sir!” Auntie Wu exclaimed in shock. She ran quickly to the study room and knocked on the door. “Sir, bad news, Young Madam is missing.”
In the study room, Gu Mohan, Lu Jinwen and Lu Yan got up at the same time and ran out.
They came to the streets and Gu Mohan said, “Let’s split up and search!”
The three men ran in different directions.
Lu Jinwen ran to the bustling area of the center of the town. His deep, sharp almond-shaped eyes swiftly scanned the crowd and it was then he saw a familiar, delicate figure.
Tang Mo’er was standing by a water fountain and looking at a mother and her daughter.
A financially constrained young mother had bought an ice-cream for her daughter. “Darling, Mom has bought you the ice-cream that you have always wanted to eat. Go ahead and eat it.”
The little girl received the ice-cream and licked it first, before bringing it to her mother’s lips and said, “Mom, this is delicious. You have a bite too.”
And so, the young mother had a bite of the ice-cream too.
By the water fountain, the mother-and-daughter pair were taking turns to eat the ice-cream. It was the cheapest dessert at McDonald’s and merely cost a few dollars, but this mother-and-daughter pair were eating it so contentedly and sweetly.
Tang Mo’er stood there watching. Her bright, clear eyes glistened with tears and she looked so pitiful.
Lu Jinwen stopped in his tracks. He felt like there was a heavy weight on his feet and he was unable to move ahead.
“Mo’er! Mo’er!” At this moment, Gu Mohan ran over.
Gu Mohan had also seen the state that Tang Mo’er was in now and felt his heart hurting. His long legs strode ahead and he quickly draped the black coat in his hand over her pale, delicate shoulders. “Mo’er, are you cold?”
Tang Mo’er raised her luminous, bright eyes and looked at Gu Mohan, then gently shook her head.
Gu Mohan’s soft lips kissed her forehead. “Do you want to eat ice-cream? I’ll buy it for you.”
McDonald’s was just located beside them and the ice-cream could be easily bought.
Tang Mo’er’s little face was pale. She looked down and shook her head.
Gu Mohan enveloped her tightly in his arms. He felt like his heart was twisting in pain. Her physical health was declining so quickly and she was gradually leaving him.
He was fearful that he could not win against time and hold her hand again.
“Mo’er, let’s go home. It’s cold outside.”
…
When they returned to the room, Tang Mo’er leaned against the headboard of the bed. Auntie Wu passed a bowl of porridge to Gu Mohan. “Sir, please feed Young Madam some porridge.”
Gu Mohan sat on the side of the bed, scooped some porridge with the spoon and blew on it before bringing it to Tang Mo’er’s lips. “Mo’er, be a good girl and open your mouth. You haven’t eaten for one whole day. Have some porridge,” he gently coaxed.
Tang Mo’er lowered her luscious lashes and ate that mouthful of porridge.
After she had eaten it, she swiftly lifted her fair hand and pressed it against the pit of her stomach. She had the urge to vomit.
Blergh…
She could not tolerate any longer and leaned over the bed to vomit that mouthful of porridge. Since she had not even drunk any water, all that she could do was retch.
“Mo’er!” Gu Mohan swiftly patted her back with his large palm.
Tang Mo’er stopped vomiting and resumed lying on the bed. She closed her eyes weakly.
Auntie Wu was tidying the room. Gu Mohan stood at the side of the bed and looked at the state she was in now. He clenched his fist hanging by his side and his deep and narrow eyes reddened.
Just then, a patter of footsteps was heard. Lu Jinwen had come.
Lu Jinwen was holding something in his hand. It was a red knitted bracelet with two little bells attached to it.
The bells tinkled merrily. The joyful sound reverberated throughout the whole house and entered Tang Mo’er’s eardrums.
Tang Mo’er’s long and luscious eyelashes quivered. At this moment, Lu Jinwen bent down to place the little bracelet by her pillow.
This was knitted by Lin Xuanji personally for her daughter.
Tang Mo’er gradually opened her eyes. She stretched out her fair hand and used her delicate finger to touch the little bells. The bells seemed to exude motherly warmth.
Twenty one years ago, when Little Mo’er was just born and still a little infant, she laid down in her cradle. The delivery room was so cozy and the morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a golden halo in the room.
A young woman got down from her bed and walked over. Little Mo’er gradually opened her eyes. A dazzling face appeared in her vision.
Little Mo’er thought to herself, her Mommy was so pretty.
The young woman reached out to rock the cradle and took out a string of little bells. She spoke in a soft, pleasing voice, “Darling, Mommy’s darling, do you like these little bells?”
Little Mo’er opened her little mouth and flashed a happy smile at the young woman.
She liked it. Little Mo’er liked it very much.
“Wow, this little baby is so adorable. Other babies keep crying when they are born, but she likes to smile,” the nurses gushed.
Tang Mo’er’s eyes reddened and her nose was also red. She slowly squeezed the little bell in her fair hand and embraced it. She curled herself up into a little ball and instantly sobbed uncontrollably.
Mom?
Her Mom…
…
Huo Yanmei was brought to the Champagne Apartments. She thought that Gu Mohan was looking for her, but when she saw a man standing indolently beside the window, she knew that it was… Lu Jinwen.
Her eyes narrowed and she swiftly understood. Lu Jinwen had found out.
Lu Jinwen had realized the truth of the matter that year.
Huo Yanmei managed to compose herself, despite her emotions being triggered just now. She held her head high and walked towards Lu Jinwen. A derisive smile played on her lips as she looked at him.
Lu Jinwen’s hands were stuck in his pants pockets and he was indolently leaning against the window. The rays of the setting sun raked through his trim hair, giving him an enchanting halo. He was wearing a simple white shirt and black trousers and he still looked like the charismatic son of the Lu family as he did that year.
