A year ago, the Devil Kingdom was actually a mess. Many leaders tried to reign over their own territories. The masses were actually living in dire poverty due to the ongoing conflicts.
However, about ten months ago, a Devil King in ghostly mask stood out of the ordinary. He managed to recruit the strongest troops in the Devil Kingdom and defeated every leader, thus unifying the divided lands into one strong and unified kingdom. He cared about the people a lot. In fact, he managed to turn the barren lands into a utopia in just a few months, giving the people a chance for a contented life.
In his words, Gu Xijiu could see how much the man actually adored the Devil King in a ghostly mask. She started to make her own assumption on the king’s identity.
“What is the name of the Devil King?”
With a hush, the man lowered his voice as he explained, “We are not allowed to talk about the name of the Devil King to outsiders. Only his closest people know his real name. Generally, we address him as the Devil King. ”
Could the Devil King be him? Determined, Gu Xijiu tried to get more information from the man as they chatted, but there was not much that he knew about the mysterious Devil King. He did not only conceal his name; nobody had actually seen his appearance as well. Most of the time, he would wear his mask to cover up his face.
Unfortunately, Gu XIjiu did not manage to find out more about the Devil King. Nonetheless, at least she was enlightened about some important things regarding her stay in the Devil Kingdom. For example, outsiders were generally forbidden to enter, unless the outsiders were the trusted businessmen of the Devil people. All these businessmen were required to wear a small tablet at their waist to prove their identities before they entered into the major cities.
Troubled, Gu Xijiu had no tablet to prove her identity.
The man asked, “Miss, what kind of business are you here for? I can see that you are not carrying many things with you.”
Indeed, she had nothing much with her. What should she sell? There was only a baby in her backpack, but it would not be the brightest idea to say that she was here to sell the baby.
Gu Xijiu took a look at the Silver Wolf that was sleeping soundly beside her and was suddenly inspired. “I am selling the creature.”
Shocked, the Silver Wolf raised its ears in confusion. It could not move its eyes from Gu Xijiu for what she had just said.
The man was surprised as well. “Can the Silver Wolf understand human language?”
Gu Xijiu gave him a reassuring smile and said, “Yes! It is rare, isn’t it? Perhaps I can get a good price for it.”
The man gave her a nod and chimed in, “The Silver Wolf itself is a very rare species, even more so if they can understand the human language. I have never seen such an intelligent creature in all my life. It looks very adorable.”
He raised his arm and tried to pet the Silver Wolf, but it did not like it. With a grin, it gave him a low purr as a warning. Its fur stood on end like an agitated little cub.
“The Silver Wolf is one of a kind!” Interested, the man exclaimed, “How much do you plan to sell? I would like to buy it.”
The Silver Wolf took cover behind Gu Xijiu and bit onto her dress tightly. She had to pull the dress out of its mouth to keep the dress in one piece. “How much can you pay?”
The man raised a finger and said, “A hundred devil coins!” He seemed confident. Hundred devil coins seemed like a big deal.
Smilingly, Gu Xijiu picked up one of his glistening gems in the carriage and asked, “How much do you plan to sell this?”
“Ten devil coins.”
The gem was a precious red ruby but was only sold for ten devil coins. She could tell that he was determined, as he was willing to pay a hundred devil coins for the Silver Wolf.
Gu Xijiu put the gem aside and pulled the Silver Wolf closer in her arms, gently brushing its soft fur.
