“So, are you happy now?” Wei Zhiqian asked through the phone with a huge grin on his face.
His voice was very low, as if he was afraid that the other students might hear it.
If Tan Mo, who was on the second floor, was not talking to Wei Zhiqian on the phone, she would not have been able to hear him.
“Uncle!” Tan Mo exclaimed excitedly as her heart raced.
It was as if she was dreaming when she saw Wei Zhiqian appear outside her dorm.
She’d thought he wasn’t present to celebrate with her and had only given her the fireworks show as a present.
Never had she expected that he would really show up on her campus and had been hiding in the shadows celebrating her birthday with her.
“Uncle, when did you get here?” Tan Mo asked, a little worried about Wei Zhiqian as it was obvious he had been waiting for quite some time.
Since there was a curfew in the dorm, all of the doors were locked. Even the male dorms were off-limits to any visitors.
This meant that Wei Zhiqian could only wait outside in the cold.
Spring had only just arrived at B City, and the temperature was hovering around 50 degrees during the day.
A light jacket would’ve been more than enough to shield oneself from the cold.
It wasn’t as excruciating hot as during the summer but also wasn’t as freezing as during the wintertime.
However, the night was completely different than the day as the temperature could drop a lot.
Unfortunately, this night was pretty cold.
It would mean that Wei Zhiqian had been waiting outside in such cold weather just to congratulate Tan Mo on her 18th birthday.
“Nah. I just got here not long ago,” Wei Zhiqian lied.
“Isn’t it freezing down there? Hurry up and go home,” Tan Mo urged.
“I thought you wanted to see me?” Wei Zhiqian raised a brow.
“But I don’t want you to catch a cold,” Tan Mo replied. “Getting to see you is more than enough!”
If Wei Zhiqian had been a narrowminded person, then Tan Mo’s words would’ve sounded like she was giving him orders, as if he had to be there when she summoned him and leave when she asked him to.
However, Wei Zhiqian found her words heartwarming.
The little girl was worried about him.
“All right. I’ll head back now then,” Wei Zhiqian smiled and pretended to turn and leave.
Unexpectedly, Tan Mo quickly stopped him, “Uncle!”
It was true that she was worried that Wei Zhiqian would catch a cold, but at the same time, she didn’t want him to leave just yet.
It had been a long time since they’d last met, and only a few minutes of seeing him weren’t enough for her. It hadn’t even been two minutes since Wei Zhiqian showed himself, and now he was ready to leave.
Tan Mo was already wondering if she jumped down from the balcony now, could Wei Zhiqian catch her.
Before Tan Mo even said anything, Wei Zhiqian already knew what she was thinking of doing.
It was as if their minds were connected as the man scolded, “Don’t do anything stupid.”
Tan Mo pouted in response.
“What? Weren’t you the one who wanted me to leave just now?” Wei Zhiqian teased.
“Because I’m worried you might catch a cold! It’s freezing out there,” Tan Mo said and thought of something. “I still haven’t thanked you for the present yet. You’re the first one to celebrate my birthday with me this year!”
“Am I also the first one to wish you a happy birthday too?” Wei Zhiqian asked.
“Yes.” Tan Mo nodded and locked her gaze on Wei Zhiqian for a few seconds before saying. “All right. I’m satisfied now. You should go back and get some rest. It’s pretty late now.”
“Ha, ha,” Wei Zhiqian laughed and nodded. “I’ll be leaving for real this time, then.”
Tan Mo nodded once again. No matter how much she wanted Wei Zhiqian to stay, she still prioritized his health over her desire as it was already past midnight.
“I’ll watch you leave,” Tan Mo said.
Wei Zhiqian stopped for a second.
The feeling he felt when Tan Mo said that was a new sensation for him.
It wasn’t as if that was his first time someone had watched him as he left.
His family, his parents, his grandparents, all those who’d loved him always watched as he left.
In the outside world, as part of the Wei family and heir to the business, he had gathered a lot of respect from other people.
It didn’t matter what outcome these people had expected from treating him with respect, but they would always watch him leave before leaving themselves.
However, it hit him differently when Tan Mo was the one who was watching him leave.
Now that Wei Zhiqian thought about it, this would be the first time she did that.
Usually, it was the opposite. He was the one who always watched her leave.
“Fine,” Wei Zhiqian replied. He couldn’t describe his emotion at the moment. It was as if his heart was filled with a new emotion that he’d never felt before.
It was weird for him.
He waved good-bye to Tan Mo and turned to leave.
However, after taking a few steps, he turned to look at Tan Mo.
And just as he had expected, Tan Mo was still standing on the balcony seeing him off.
Wei Zhiqian waved at her again, and only then he realized that he was still on the phone with Tan Mo.
“You should go back inside too,” Wei Zhiqian said after noticing Tan Mo was just wearing light cotton pajamas.
Since everyone had their lights off, the only lights on the campus were from the street lamps.
From the man’s point of view, Tan Mo looked lonely standing on the dimly lit balcony as if she didn’t have anyone to accompany her.
“Okay,” Tan Mo replied but didn’t move from her spot.
If Wei Zhiqian could reach her now, he would’ve pushed her back into her room.
But, since he couldn’t, all he could do was hasten his speed and get out of Tan Mo’s sight. As soon as he disappeared from Tan Mo’s sight, he sneakily walked back to where he could see the balcony.
With his training at the Lanshan compound, he was sure that Tan Mo would not be able to notice him, and he was right.
Tan Mo was looking around to make sure that Wei Zhiqian had left before heading back into her room.
It was only then Wei Zhiqian left for real.
Tan Mo’s roommates were already lying on their beds.
Even though there was a door between the room and the balcony, it could only stop the wind from entering the room.
There was basically no soundproofing.
That was why, even with the door closed, the roommates could still hear Tan Mo’s chat with Wei Zhiqian.
When Tan Mo got back in, they were all wide awake.
“Tan Mo, the fireworks…” Meng Yuxi was the first to talk. “Did Wei Zhiqian do that?”
Since the light was off, they couldn’t see Lin Fuxi’s reaction, but Jin Yuelin and Meng Yuxi could tell that she was completely embarrassed.
It was expected as just a few minutes ago, Lin Fuxi had told Tan Mo to stop dreaming about the fireworks being a present from a rich person to a girl.
She was right, in a sense, since it was a love confession.
But there was also the fact that Wei Zhiqian was a rich person, and the fireworks was a present for Tan Mo.
The other two roommates could already tell how awkward it was for Lin Fuxi, and they were happy about it.
“Yep!” Tan Mo nodded. “That was Uncle’s present for my 18th birthday!”
“Wait? Is today your birthday?” Jin Yuelin exclaimed.
“Yes! I’m turning 18 today!”
“Happy Birthday!” Meng Yuxi quickly congratulated her.
Jin Yuelin also congratulated her as well.
Even Lin Fuxi, who was clearly reluctant to do so, offered her wishes.
Tan Mo smiled happily and thanked all of her roommates for their birthday wishes.
“Isn’t Wei Zhiqian being too nice to you?” Meng Yuxi asked enviously because of the fact that one of the richest men in the nation had just spent half a million to wish Tan Mo a happy birthday on the dot of midnight.
