Only then did Lu Xuan see that everything around him had changed.
The entire place was dyed blood-red.
A massive blood cloud hovered high in the sky near where he stood. This cloud was created from a massive pool of blood below. The pool of blood continued to conjure refined blood, sending it into the clouds.
The boundless refined blood then traveled somewhere further away above the blood cloud.
“What kind of formation could be this horrifying?”
He frowned slightly. While he had no idea what kind of formation this was, he could still see the devastating effects of that formation.
He had seen several equally horrifying formations back in his past life. The only way to conjure one such horrifying formation was to absorb the blood of countless living beings. A blood cloud would’ve only formed after a pool of blood had been gathered.
With his Delusion-breaker Eyes, he could see blood bubbling within the pool. The resentment and hate of countless beings were boiling within the pool.
Since they were all killed as innocents, it was only natural for such resentment and hate to be found within the pool. There was so much resentment and hate that one could’ve even seen the howling of the horrifying winds with the naked eye.
That pool of blood was actually just a small part of a massive formation elsewhere.
Lu Xuan traced the boundless blood that swooped above the cloud in the air and saw that there was an incredibly massive altar over 1000 kilometers away from the cloud. Streams of blood from many other places within the basin coalesced at that altar.
He could not help but gasp as he said to himself, “Some plot at play indeed.”
Based on the sight of the blood being endlessly siphoned, he figured that hundreds of millions of living beings were killed to form the blood pools. This seemed to all be just to feed the altar.
Despite his vista and breadth of knowledge, he was still horrified by the awful level of brutality required to pull something like this off.
Despite everything that he had seen back in his past life, such a massive would’ve gone unnoticed.
Lu Xuan uttered, “It’s the Divine Blood Church!”
Apparently, it was exactly how the Medicine Man described it; the Divine Blood Church had taken control over the surrounding regions.
Only the Divine Blood Church was capable of taking hundreds of millions of lives in such a massive massacre. No other group could’ve possibly done this.
That explained why Lu Xuan kept felt that something was off when he looked at the development of affairs around the region. It also explained why the Holy Sun Continent looked so different from the one that his mother had in mind.
That was because the place had truly been reduced to a playground for the Divine Blood Church.
Everyone around, including the great ancestors of the clans found in the region, were but cattle to the cult.
It was just that nobody truly realized what had happened.
That was why the history of the place stopped so abruptly hundreds of years ago. The heritage of the cultivation forces around reached the limit when they hit the Divine Transformation Realm. Many of these cultivation forces who were still out there didn’t even have anyone at the Divine Transformation Realm among them.
Some truly unstoppable fighter had likely emerged from the continent. Despite wanting to lead the cultivation world in the region to an era of prosperity, the ones behind it simply couldn’t let it become too powerful.
That explained why the strongest among the nearby cultivation forces stopped only at the second tier of the Divine Transformation Realm; that was the very limit that the Divine Blood Church was willing to tolerate.
It didn’t matter if it was the Yunlong Village or the Blood Wolf Pirate group. They were merely sentinels meant to ensure that nobody in the region could escape in massive groups. Those two forces had effectively served as wardens of a prison.
As such, those two forces had their own respective goals and logic while having no intentions of meddling in the affairs of the region itself. They were far more powerful than the others, yet they stuck to their responsibilities and stayed within their allotted territories.
Everything that Lu Xuan had initially found inexplicably peculiar about the place instantly became very clear.
The region had never seen normal development right from the start. From their birth to their death, everyone lived as they were scripted to act. They slowly grew under the manipulation of some unknown force out there.
Now was the time for the Divine Blood Church to reap their rewards.
While that didn’t mean that every single living being was indiscriminately killed, that was a somewhat accurate explanation of the current situation.
What was even more terrifying was that he was able to see clearly what the cult wanted to do. They had probably believed that the place was some kind of pen or farm. They would’ve planted the seeds again as soon as the harvest was finished. Even so, another ripe and prosperous civilization was destined to emerge centuries later.
Such a civilization would’ve been no different like the one that existed centuries ago, where clans emerged before being wiped out. The remaining survivors served as fodder to help the cult make further breakthroughs.
The cycle would’ve kept going, the cult would only become increasingly powerful. However, no truly powerful being would emerge from that region.
The cycle of sowing and harvesting would repeat itself forever. None of the cattle would be able to do anything about it.
“The Divine Blood Church sure is bold. Just what kind of heretical method are they practicing? They must not be worried about the consequences at all, huh?”
Slaughtering hundreds of millions of living beings just for the sake of practicing such horrifying methods would’ve been considered extremely brutal even for groups like the Divine Blood Church.
He had no idea what the cult was up to. He had no idea whether or not powerful guards were guarding the core of that altar.
What he did know was that he should apparently do something. Such a massive, horrifying undertaking came with severe karmic repercussions one way or another. He wondered if those of the cult were truly unafraid of such dire consequences.
Back in his past life, even people like Lu Xuan, who had become so powerful that hardly anyone dared to mess with, never dared to challenge all those laws that were laid in the very foundations of existence.
The fundamental laws that created the entire universe had the laws of cause and effect among them.
Before Lu Xuan could think on the matter any further, a team of elites from the Yunlong Village in the sky flew past, patrolling the entire place to check if there were anyone they missed. All of them shouted as soon as they saw Lu Xuan.
“Seize him!”
The team of over 100 elites from the Yunlong Village charged at Lu Xuan right away.
The leader among them was a mighty one at the Divine Transformation Realm.
The elites brought terrifying waves of powers to bear on him right away.
Roar!
As he roared, the terrifying waves that came crashing down on him dispersed right before his eyes.
This was the Golden Dragon’s Roar of Annihilation.
Ripples of energy spread all over the place into the distance.
“Damn it!”
The leader of those from the Yunlong Village became tense. He knew immediately that the man before his eyes was stronger than he was capable of taking on. He had never seen someone capable of dispelling all of their attacks with only a single roar.
Lu Xuan then quickly activated his powers and swung his sword.
Swoop!
A sword aura measuring over 300 meters in length blasted towards the elites of the Yunlong Village right away.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
All the elite members of the Yunlong Village that got in the way of the sword aura exploded where they were, being reduced to downpours of blood and flesh that were immediately absorbed by the blood pool below.
