The aromatic smell of various meat and other cooked meals made Lily smile. “Is there any special occasion?” Lily asked. Along with the meat, she could clearly smell ginger and garlic with soy sauce and some oyster sauce. She sat on the table. Because of her pregnancy, her sense of smell seemed to have doubled. She eyed the steam coming off from the steamed rice to her left. Various dishes were laid in front of Lily, some of which she didn’t even recognize.
For a few seconds, Lily turned silent. Then she widened her eyes at Zhou Dae Un who was smiling next to her. “Did I… Did I forget your birthday? Oh my! Did I— “
“Relax!” Zhou Dae Un wanted to laugh. “I was trying to show you some Korean food that I really like! Kimchi, marinated beef barbecue, pork strips or Samgyeopsal, soft tofu stew, Bibimbap, Ginseng chicken soup. All of these are my favorites.”
“For breakfast?”
“Brunch.” Zhou Dae Un corrected. “It’s already past nine in the morning, almost ten.”
“Right. Right… But I am still having lunch later. So this will be my breakfast.” Lily boldly declared. “Yang Mi please call my brother and tell him to have his breakfast again. Mother… please take a seat. We should all enjoy this feast together.” She beamed. Lily waited for Qin Yuanfeng to arrive before everyone started eating.
Then Lily got dressed so she could leave for her office. Since Zhou Jingren already told her that he was on his way to Hong Kong, Lily had asked Chef Yang to wrap the leftover food so she could bring it to her office and share it with Zhou Jingren for lunch later when he comes to see her.
“I was surprised when Yang Mi informed me that you came.” Lily noted. They were already in the car towards the Facci Group. “Then… I got worried. I was thinking that something must have gone wrong or why would you come to see me just after Jingren talked to you about the Su’s or rather the Inagawa clan.” Her eyes were outside of the car. Obviously, her words were enough to surprise Zhou Dae Un.
“I understand.” Zhou Dae Un said. “However, last night Zhou Jingren told me that you haven’t tried a lot of dishes — korean dishes. So I figured, why not surprise you? Of course, this was also to keep you company while he was away. Speaking of which… did you like my cooking?”
Lily only pursed her lips in response. This immediately made Zhou Dae Un nervous. For some reason, she could feel that Lily knew more than what she was saying. “I love it.” Lily said.
“Then… all good. How about we shop later? I’m sure that Zhou Jingren would be busy today. After he — “
“What happened?” Lily interrupted Zhou Dae Un. “Did something happen in China?” Slowly, she turned her gaze towards the woman sitting next to her. She specifically asked Yang Mi to ride the second car to make Zhou Dae Un comfortable in talking. Lily understood that unlike her, Zhou Dae Un did not trust Lily’s people. She could even see the doubt in Zhou Dae Un’s eyes everytime she looked at Qin Yuanfeng.
Of course, this is something that was understandable. After all, Zhou Dae Un had been through a lot.
Seeing Lily’s resolute gaze, Zhou Dae Un let out a sigh. “How did you know?” she asked. Lily was not a kid. Even Zhou Jingren already expected this question from her. However, she believed that she never did anything to make Lily suspect her. Were her actions so suspicious? Zhou Dae Un thought that surprising a daughter in law was a normal thing to do!
“I can feel it.”
Zhou Dae Un stared at Lily’s beautiful face as she laughed inwardly. She had underestimated Lily after all. Shaking her head, Zhou Dae Un turned her gaze away, avoiding the intensity in Lily’s eyes in the process. “It’s Bei Tian.”
The atmosphere instantly turned heavy as Lily frowned. She waited for Zhou Dae Un to continue.
“He and his men had some accident. Nothing fatal but everyone is bed ridden.”
“Someone attacked them?”
“Yes.” This was partly true.
“And Jingren?” Lily asked. Her face devoid of any emotion, yet she could not deny the sudden jump in her heartbeat, or the rage inside her. “Did something happen to him too?”
“No. He was with me at that time. Bei Tian and the other’s are safe. So there is no— “
“Do you know who did it?”
“Not for now, no.” Zhou Jingren said that he would personally tell Lily about what happened last night. Even Zhou Dae Un was unaware about the real events that lead to Bei Tian’s accident. This is the only thing that she could say right now. “I am sure Zhou Jingren already handled it.”
“And this was the reason why Zhou Jingren sent you?” Lily said.
“I insisted on coming here.”When she heard that something happened, she immediately suggested that she go and see Lily. She was afraid that the people who hurt Bei Tian would also target Lily. At least, Zhou Dae Un’s presence would add an extra layer of security for Lily.
Lily nodded in response as she balled her hands into tight fists. “Was it the Inagawa’s?”
“Probably.” Zhou Dae Un uttered. This was also her primary guess. After all, the coincidence was just too much. “We will know once Zhou Jingren arrives from China.” She let out a sigh. “We need to handle the Inagawa’s as soon as possible.”
Lily nodded again. Her mind was in chaos. However, without the facts, Lily’s assumptions were useless. “He— Bei Tian is safe, right?”
“He is.” Zhou Dae Un nodded. “He won’t wake up for the next few hours but two doctors confirmed that he is safe. However, after he wakes up, he will still have to undergo various tests. It might take a few weeks or so before the doctors can clear him out.” Even Zhou Dae Un had no idea about Bei Tian’s injuries. She was only telling Lily what Secretary Go and Zhou Jingren told her over the phone.
“I understand.” Lily uttered with a dark look on her face. Someone dared to hurt Bei Tian? Were they trying to provoke Zhou Jingren into doing something?
