In the dark of the night, a white light suddenly flashed through the sky, then rapidly spread from one single point forming a huge network of lightning tendrils spread throughout the sky. The light then descended down to cover more than half the island in an instant!
‘Spiritual Storm’!!
‘Spiritual Storm’ was a powerful ability specifically developed for use against living things. It made use of the fear deep within the hearts of living creatures to torture their bodies. ‘Spiritual Storm’ would not only physically harm the creatures it attacked, it would also severely damage their spirit and mind, making them lose their intelligence, focus and reasoning.
The electricity network of ‘Spiritual Storm’ constantly leaped and flickered across almost four-fifths of the island. Even so, the Violent Beasts still regarded the water in the swamp as a forbidden area. They preferred to endure the torment and pain from the ‘Spiritual Storm’ instead of jumping into the water, as if the water was a strong sulphuric acid.
Under such circumstances, the remaining one-fifth of the island immediately became a hotspot! In but a few seconds, the population of that piece of real estate – no, the density of beasts in that area – had even surpassed the density of humans in a subway during rush hours….
By now, however, Aldaris, who was lurking in the vicinity because he needed to continuously cast the spell, had also been discovered.
After all, he needed to raise his hands without moving to maintain the spellcasting posture. He was even glowing. Such an action, in commending terms, was to act cool, but in terms of derogatory words, was to act like an idiot. All the Violent Beasts would have to be blind to not see him.
The discovery of Aldaris immediately attracted a lot of aggro towards him. Even the Xenomorphs cruising deep in the swamp were immediately alerted. The three Xenomorphs swam over quietly and swiftly in the water of the swamp like snakes. As soon as Aldaris was within their attacking range, they would pounce on him.
At that moment, however, Aldaris simply snorted, because he had recalled the previous conversation he had with Sheyan.
“….Don’t worry. Casting the ‘Spiritual Storm’ may seem like a risky move on your part, but you’ll actually be quite safe because you’re not the main attacker in my plan.”
“Are you kidding me?? In terms of range, in terms of damage, which one of these people can compare to my ‘Spiritual Storm’? If I blast the ‘Spiritual Storm’ at max output for 12 seconds, even the gods will weep under its destructive power!”
“Well….the problem is that I can’t guarantee those ugly beasts will stay where they are and obediently take the hit for 12 seconds, and I can’t guarantee that the Xenomorphs will give you 12 seconds either.”
At this point, Sheyan shrugged and grinned at Aldaris. “So, you’re not the main attacker in this fight. The main attacker will be another Mr. Big Shot. You can escape after releasing the ‘Spiritual Storm’ for four seconds. With your speed and your ‘Blood Elude’ ability, even the swamp Xenomorphs won’t pose any threat to you.”
“You…You want me to release only four seconds of ‘Spiritual Storm’?? That’ll serve no purpose at all except to make the Violent Beasts even more violent!”
Aldaris’ protest had been coldly ignored. Aldaris actually maintained the ‘Spiritual Storm’ for five seconds before he escaped with ‘Blood Elude’ because he really enjoyed the sight of his enemies crying and running away pathetically under his powerful ability….but in truth, the true power of ‘Spiritual Storm’ would only show after the ninth second.
That was because the damage caused by ‘Spiritual Storm’ would double every second…. The damage in the first few seconds were actually just the build-up. Only after the damage had stacked to a considerable number towards the end that it would become shocking, and increase at an alarming rate too.
While Aldaris was remaining immobile for five seconds, the three Xenomorphs had already surrounded him from three different directions. The distance between each of them were less than 30 meters. However, unbeknownst to them, there was a drop of blood that would not disperse at a spot in the swamp in the distance, shining with a faint glow like a ruby. At that moment, the drop of blood suddenly enlarged into a red dimension that had little mysterious red runes on it.
The next second, Aldaris, who was originally sixty meters away, emerged from the red dimension and successfully escaped from the encirclement.
Aldaris was a contestants focusing on Agility and Intelligence, so with a buffer distance of dozens of meters, it was not an easy feat for the Xenomorphs to catch up to him even in a swamp environment. Besides, the others were ready to help him. Thus, Aldaris successfully got out of trouble.
The Violent Beasts on the island had rushed in a frenzy to the one-fifth area of the island that was not covered in the ‘Spiritual Storm’.
When four-fifths of the area on a rectangular island was covered, the remaining one-fifth would naturally be a long, narrow corridor-like area.
At least five hundred Violent Beasts were packed into this small area!
At this moment, another fellow who had quietly sneaked close to the island suddenly stood up. He raised his hands and loudly chanted a mysterious and majestic magic spell. A rumble seemed to respond to his chanting from the depths of the earth.
Rings of shimmering lights were shining on his body. This was the effect of ‘Empower Spell’, one of the Metamagic Feats in the D&D magic system! It signified that the next spell he casted would have an additional 50% increase in power!
This guy was the real main attacker in Sheyan’s plan, Pokan!
A few dozen meters in front of Pokan, a round stone was forming at an astonishing speed. Finally, a huge rock sphere dozens of meters in diameter was formed. Then, it erupted into flames.
The huge flaming meteor descended down from the sky and proceeded to roll at an alarming speed and crush anything in its path while making a tremendous roar! As it rolled, it blasted out a large amount of fist-sized burning charcoals up to 100 meters away. The Violent Beasts that were hit cried in pain and ran around in a frenzy!
The rolling meteor left a trail of fierce fire in its wake, and when its momentum was exhausted, instead of falling into the water, it erupted in an extremely violent explosion covering everything dozens of meters around it! Something like black soot rained down from the sky afterwards.
The path which the flaming meteor rolled through happened to be a very opportunate narrow area on the island.
The narrow area where the Violent Beasts were packed like sardines in a can!
Aldaris merely played a supporting role in the whole process. His ‘Spiritual Storm’ was just to force the monsters to pack into this narrow area. The real killing move in Sheyan’s plan was Pokan’s ‘Chaos Meteor’, which had a short casting time but which usage was very limited by the terrain!
The rest could not help but admire Sheyan’s unconventional way of thinking. Normally, one would just plan their tactic around the strongest attack which could cover the biggest area.
But Sheyan had only used the strongest attack at their disposal as support, and instead used another ability as the main attack. It was like if the Mongols suddenly gave up on their mounted archers and used infantries to defeat the enemies. That would definitely catch the enemies off guard.
However, Sheyan’s plan was questioned too in the beginning. For example, Paul told Sheyan after making some calculations, “We’ve now almost grasped the basic stats of the Violent Beasts. The HP of an ordinary Violent Beast is about 800 points with around 10 points of defence. If we calculate based on this, even with the addition of my Metamagic Feat of ‘Empower Spell’, the ‘Chaos Meteor’ can only kill the Violent Beasts directly in its path. The vast majority of the Violent Beasts will still survive despite being heavily injured. Is it really necessary for us to take such a huge risk just for this?”
After listening to Paul’s words, Sheyan could not help staring at him with a meaningful grin. Paul frowned when he saw the grin. He seemed to have realised that he had gotten something wrong. Suddenly, he slapped his forehead and muttered a long “ohhhh”.
Sheyan laughed and explained to some of the people there who were still confused, “The physical bodies of the Violent Beasts are not digitised like ours are, so they can’t recover from injuries in a short time. My main purpose is to injure the Violent Beasts on a large scale rather than to kill them. In fact, this will have a much better effect than to kill them outright!”
“If the Violent Beasts are the type of creatures that take care of their own kind, then they’ll need to allocate some hands to take care of and hunt for the badly injured Violent Beasts. From the looks of it, this Violent Beast community is barely able to survive to begin with, so if they really do that when they’re already short-handed, it’ll create a large shortage of food and directly place a huge burden on the whole community.”
“But if the Violent Beasts have the habit of killing those who are seriously injuries in their community, even better! The badly injured Violent Beasts will never willingly accept death. They’ll certainly put up a resistance! This will cause internal strife and a second round of injuries to the Violent Beast community! The Violent Beasts are definitely creatures with intelligence, so they must possess emotions and morale too – both of which will inevitably hit rock-bottom afterwards!”
