“What a strong fluctuation of energy! They’re finally fighting with everything they’ve got!” exclaimed Sheyan with his brows furrowed.
“Probably because this damn place isn’t a parallel world, so all emergency returning items are useless here… If they don’t work hard, they’ll die for sure,” Aldaris replied in a mocking tone.
Sheyan continued looking into the distance as he muttered, “Under such circumstances, I guess they’ve no choice but to go all out. But what a waste of strong battle powers….it’s unfortunate that they’re like loose sand, all acting in their own interests!”
Sheyan’s lamentation was not without reason. Even after the team was reduced to a mere 10 people, it was still, in truth, divided into four factions. Each of the two MTs… oh, wait, three MTs to be exact, had a faction of their own, and William also spearheaded a neutral faction.
Being MTs that were able to become Awakeners, Hedi Curry and Azsa must possess their own extraordinary capabilities. However, the two made the mistake of underestimating the enemies right at the start of the mission, leading to a sharp decline in their authority. Sheyan and Aldaris were also prideful fellows that were unwilling to bow down to them. As a result, both MTs had placed most of their attention on the internal power struggle within the team.
A human’s mental capacity is limited. They had to struggle for power while trekking through such a dangerous environment, so of course they would make all kinds of mistakes. Some mistakes simply resulted in recoverable injuries and a loss of pride, while some mistakes were fatal.
“If Hedi Curry or Azsa look like they have a chance of escaping, should we help them?” Aldaris suddenly asked in a seemingly casual manner.
Sheyan gave Aldaris a meaningful look and answered with a grin, “Why ask a question you already know the answer to. There can be only one final voice in a team.”
Aldarius snorted, but he could not help mocking, “You ambitious bastard… I really can’t understand why Zi would join your party.”
Sheyan was about to reply when he suddenly saw a huge mound of earth rising up in the sea of Violent Beasts not far away. The mound burst, and out came a heavily-wounded Rock Elemental. Although the gigantic Rock Elemental had already reached the periphery of the island, it was still drowned within the crazy attacks of the swarm of Violent Beasts.
It did not take long for chips and cracks to appear on the Rock Elemental. Its body started to fall off bit by bit, the debris flying everywhere. Although it could adsorb the soil from the ground to repair its body, the rate of destruction was far greater than the rate of repair. This was in addition to the variety of negative statuses inflicted upon it.
Under the effects of the negative status, and the fierce and fearless Violent Beasts rushing from everywhere to block its path, the three-meter-tall Rock Elemental only managed to move forward for less than twenty meters before it knelt on the ground with all four of its limbs broken. It then disintegrated into ashes, revealing the core inside….the deathly pale Pokan.
This was Pokan’s trump card – summoning a powerful Rock Elemental to protect himself.
The Rock Elemental would place the summoner inside its body and obey the summoner’s orders. The summoner will not be harmed unless the Rock Elemental died.
The ultimate ability of this powerful elemental creature was the ‘Great Ground Escape’, which could instantly transport it 200 meters away through the ground. However, the cooldown time was as long as 30 minutes.
In addition, the Rock Elemental also had amazing defence and HP.
It seemed that Pokan had decided to stay and help because he had this card up his sleeve. However, he never expected that he would still be surrounded by Violent Beasts even after escaping 200 meters away!
Watching the Violent Beasts pouring towards him from every direction, Pokan’s eyes showed a colour of despair. Several rays shot over and struck his body. He instantly moaned in great agony.
But because of that, the normally soft-spoken Pokan now had a fierce look in his eyes. The wand he was holding abruptly exploded! His hands penetrated deep into the ground as he issued a hoarse and forceful scream.
“AARRRRGGGHHH DIIIEEEE!!!”
With Pokan as the center, the earth hundreds of square meters around him suddenly burst violently like boiling oil. Multiple sharp, sinister-looking stones, shaped like gigantic wolf fangs, pierced upwards through the ground!
Every one of the hundreds of Violent Beasts close to Pokan were pierced by the horrible stone spikes. After that, the stone spikes exploded in succession! Stone fragments flew everywhere at a speed that was no less than the speed of bullets. Even if some Violent Beasts had managed to survive through the initial attack, they were now instantly torn into flesh pieces. A blood mist seeped through the vast grey cloud of billowing debris!
Pokan immediately collapsed after launching the attack. His chest rose and fell like a broken bellows. That attack was his final strike.
It was common knowledge that the more powerful an attack, the greater the consumption. The range of that attack just now was astonishing, the power was extraordinary, and it was an instant cast spell which could not be interrupted to boot! Such a godly skill naturally came at a huge cost. Not only had Pokan’s wand shattered, his MP was also close to being depleted; he could not perform any more significant spells. The only fate which awaited him now was death.
“We’ll save him!” Sheyan told Aldaris as he watched the scene unfurl. “I know you have a way to guard my back.”
“Hey hey hey!” Aldaris immediately retorted in indignation, “We’re in a cooperative relationship! Why should I take orders from you? Damn it, I’m not done talking! How do you run so fast? Are you a rabbit?”
Sheyan was already rushing towards Pokan. Pokan was completely defenseless right now; he could only wait for death to claim him. The Violent Beasts, enraged by the deaths of their companions, pounced towards him with their sharp teeth ready to tear his body into pieces.
The first bite arrived, tearing away a piece of flesh the size of a palm from Pokan’s body. Pokan instantly screamed in pain. Driven by his desire to survive, he crushed a ring that was in his possession. An invisible force field burst forth from the ring to push away the beasts around Pokan, and a transparent barrier formed around him, providing him with absolute protection.
But of course the fierce and fearless beasts would not stop there. They could already sense that Pokan no longer posed any threat to them, so they collectively pounced on him. The swarm of Violent Beasts instantly piled into a small meat mountain. The barrier did not look like it would hold out for much longer.
In the distance, Aldaris closed his eyes and bizarrely floated at least a meter off the ground.
Suddenly, there was a splattering of blood. He had actually stabbed both his weapons deep into his chest. His hair and clothes rose and flapped wildly.
“My pain; fester, gather, and explode! Let every nerve of the enemy experience deeply the feeling of being torn apart!!”
“‘Spiritual Storm’!”
A faint blue dot suddenly appeared above the Violent Beasts attracted over by Pokan. As if the space was a porcelain that had been forcefully nailed through, five or six strands of cracks emerged and spreaded from the dot. The cracks slowly burned bright before they burst open in an explosion, turning into a wildly flailing network of electricity in the air which covered a space of nearly a hundred square meters!
This was a festival of electricity, and a disaster sweeping through the spirit!
Strands of lightning continuously zapped down to the ground. They did no damage to the surrounding environment, but whenever they touched a living body, they would adhere to the surface of all living creatures in the area and finally explode in a blinding flash of electricity!
The most powerful thing about the ‘Spiritual Storm’ was the pain and wailing of the living creatures! So long as the pain existed, the ‘Spiritual Storm’ would last indefinitely. The best way to deal with the ‘Spiritual Storm’ was not to endure it, but to move out of its area of effect as quickly as possible.
Most of the Violent Beasts could only endure five to six seconds of agony before they shattered into pieces amidst cries of pain and the splashing of blood.
Before this, the Violent Beasts in Pokan’s vicinity were first eliminated by Pokan’s earth spikes. Then, the beasts from further out were attracted by Pokan and pounced over, before they too died in the ‘Spiritual Storm’. This area, which originally had the highest density of Violent Beasts, was now devoid of any.
Sheyan rushed in and was immediately assaulted by the ‘Spiritual Storm’…. One of the crazy things about the ‘Spiritual Storm’ was that it would also hurt friendly units. In addition, it caused true damage, which Sheyan hated the most! (Because this ability is so powerful, when it is used against Bosses, the damage caused by ‘Spiritual Storm’ will be capped. Some Bosses are also immune to this ability.)
While the ‘Spiritual Storm’ raged on and the rest of the Violent Beasts were forced outside, Sheyan grabbed Pokan and fled while enduring the pain! With the cover from the ‘Spiritual Storm’, he managed to escape successfully.
To be honest, Pokan was initially full of resentment towards Sheyan. He believed that the tragic situation the team was in right now was in large part caused by Sheyan running away instead of protecting him when he tried to cast the major spell.
But now, Sheyan had saved him from imminent death, from the endless waves of Violent Beasts threatening to drown him in their midst. He really did not know how to feel about that. While he rested on the ground, he looked with complicated feelings at the wounds Sheyan had sustained all over his body in order to save him. He could only sigh as he closed his eyes to recuperate.
