She wanted nothing more than to save him!
She wanted nothing more than to find him!
But across the vast expanse of white, there was nothing but ice and snow. Once again, the Ice Phoenix consumed the Phoenix that Feng Tianlan had conjured. Then, perhaps Si Mobai had already…
Feng Tianlan bit her lip and did not think of it. “Mobai, where are you?”
Suddenly, she caught the familiar fragrance of mint amidst the overpowering stench of blood. She felt a tug at her heartstrings. She could not help but tremble and cry out, “Mobai!”
She’d barely finished her words when he drew her into the familiar embrace. His velvety voice echoed in her ears. “I’m here.”
“Si Mobai! Si Mobai!” Feng Tianlan clutched his sleeves and buried her face in his chest. She drew in a deep breath of his minty scent mixed with the smell of blood. Her quavering voice revealed her joy at finding the one she’d thought she’d lost.
She’d never known that she was so afraid of losing him!
Si Mobai wrapped an arm around her slender waist and planted a kiss in her hair. “I’m here. I’ll get you out of here. Close your eyes.”
Feng Tianlan shut her eyes. This time, she would listen to him because she trusted him!
With one hand on Feng Tianlan’s waist, Si Mobai raised his other hand, and a silvery light appeared.
Boom!
The light centered around the enormous Ice Phoenix then blasted everything around it.
The shadow hiding behind the tens of thousands of beasts was lit up by this brilliant white light. Astonished, the shadow watched what seemed to be an impending apocalypse. Then his shock turned to excitement. “What a surprising discovery.”
As soon as he’d spoken these words, he noticed that the silvery light looked just like a beam heading toward him at incredible speed. He immediately paled and prepared to run away.
Sizz!
The bright, silvery light directly pierced him. The dark figure froze as he slowly looked down. As he saw the gaping hole in his stomach, his body flopped to the floor. His eyes popped open wide with disbelief.
He was ten miles away. How had Si Mobai been able to strike him down in an instant?
“You can open your eyes now,” Si Mobai softly muttered while caressing Feng Tianlan’s hair.
Feng Tianlan opened her eyes and lifted her head away from his arms. Aside from their breathing, everything else was quiet. The beasts that circled them were nowhere to be seen. It was as if what had happened before had been nothing more than a horrible dream.
However, she could see flowers and plants leaning in all sorts of directions. Tall mountains and green plains had been razed. The scent of blood still filled the air. All of this vividly reminded her that she was not dreaming.
She scanned her surroundings then looked behind her. Her jaw dropped. Demonic beasts littered all over the ground. They were either dead or injured. Not a single one had been spared.
Were these the same demonic beasts that had so ferociously assailed them just moments ago?
“You…” Feng Tianlan lifted her head and observed Si Mobai. She noticed that the red dot between his eyebrows, his zhusha, was becoming redder. It now looked like a drop of blood.
Si Mobai cast his eyes down. “Scary, isn’t it?”
“No!” Feng Tianlan quickly replied. If his astounding power could annihilate those beasts in seconds, then it was likewise capable of destroying the world.
Si Mobai’s arms tightened around her waist. “Lan’er…” He lowered his head, ready to kiss her.
His Lan’er was simply the best!
Conscious of his intentions, Feng Tianlan couldn’t help but blush. When she caught sight of a human corpse, she hastily changed the subject. “He is…”
“He was the one behind the demonic beasts’ rebellion. He was too powerful and too far away, so I had no choice but to take him by surprise.” Si Mobai’s forehead was covered with cold sweat. He fought against the urge to pass out. He had to provide Tianlan with explanations.
Feng Tianlan furrowed her brow and stooped to examine the corpse. In the end, she spotted a shoulder badge beneath his black robe. She picked it up and clutched it in her palm, saying, “The Heaven and Earth Alliance…”
