Si Mobai could tell that something was amiss from Feng Tianlan’s tone. While she made it seem like nothing was wrong, he could hear the agony in her voice that she tried to suppress but failed. She’d never set foot in this forest, not even as a child, so why should it pain her so?
“The heavy mist surrounding this area extends for only a hundred yards. No demonic beast dares roam within a one-yard radius from that periphery. So there is no need to worry. The Misty Forest is not as dangerous as it’s rumored to be.”
Zhang Tiancheng and Luo Yunzhu couldn’t help but roll their eyes at Si Mobai. Oh puh-leeze! He was the King of Wargods, walking powder keg of spiritual powers. Of course, demonic beasts meant nothing to him! However, they were lowly Spiritual Masters. A Stage 1 demonic beast was more than capable of tearing them to pieces.
The Wargod sure knew how to demoralize his team.
Feng Tianlan collected her wandering thoughts only to discover that Si Mobai’s large hands were still wrapped around her waist. The eyes surrounding them landed on her like needles. She chose a path and took a step forward, saying, “Let’s go.”
Si Mobai looked at his broad palm, which was now empty. Remnants of her supple skin seemed to linger. He frowned slightly at the path that she’d chosen, but quickly followed behind her.
On the other end, Lin Suyin’s brow furrowed for a second when she saw Si Mobai cuddling Feng Tianlan’s slender waist. Didn’t he suffer from misogyny? What had happened to him feeling sick and experiencing adverse reactions to women?
How could he hold Feng Tianlan’s waist like it was the most natural thing in the world? He was doing it like he had done it countless times.
“Sister Lin, this must be Feng Tianlan’s trick to seduce the Wargod. It’s just an ordinary patch of fog. How could anyone be so shocked by it that they’d just happen to fumble and fall directly into the Wargod’s arms?”
Lin Suyin frowned mildly. “Miss Feng simply lost her balance. It was not on purpose.”
“That looked completely intentional to me. You’re the only one silly enough to believe Feng Tianlan. She knows that you are in love with the Wargod and sees you as her rival. Why else would she refuse the Beautifying Pill that you tried to give her? You might as well feed your kindness to the dogs.”
“Alright, that’s enough. Miss Feng is not like that. I can tell that she is open and honest. She has nothing to hide,” Lin Suyin replied sternly. She took a long last look at the path she’d initially chosen. Then, she turned and stepped instead onto the road that Feng Tianlan had taken.
The person who had answered her twitched her lips and rolled her eyes. Deep inside, she silently cursed her team leader: What a trusting fool this Lin Suyin is! She wouldn’t even know if someone sold her. It’s no wonder that she could not make the Wargod like her, even after all these years.
“Miss Lin, that path is the riskiest and most dangerous.” Someone reminded her, reluctant to take that route. Since every path led to a different destination, the levels of danger that they posed varied.
Lin Suyin stared at the misty white in front of her. Si Mobai and the others were nowhere to be seen. Yet, she insisted, “With the Wargod and Miss Feng, we will be alright. It is much safer to follow them than to take other routes.”
Everyone swallowed their opinions after hearing Lin Suyin’s argument. After all, she was still the team leader, and they had to follow her instructions.
Si Mobai clutched Feng Tianlan’s hand as they moved into the deep fog. He said, “The fog is too thick. It would be really easy to lose each other.”
Feng Tianlan, who was about to struggle free, conceded his point and allowed him to continue holding her hand. Then, she stretched out her other hand to the others beside her. Chuling took Feng Tianlan’s hand and then linked hands with Azurite, who locked hands with Luo Yunzhu.
“Zhang Tiancheng, you hooligan! How dare you grab my hand!” Luo Yunzhu’s outstretched hand was snatched tightly by a large, calloused palm. A single touch was enough for her to tell that the hand belonged to a man. That it would never be the Wargod’s was a no-brainer, so she yelled out the name of the only remaining possibility – Zhang Tiancheng.
Zhang Tiancheng gripped Luo Yunzhu’s soft, small hand even tighter than ever. “All of you are already holding hands. What about me? What if you’d lost me?”
