Xiulan had just come over from work when her mother brought up the topic again.
”Mum, I’ve told you that he is busy, and will come on his own time,” Xiulan replied as she sat on the couch in the room.
”This doesn’t seem right to me, and it makes it look like I am ungrateful. Without his help, I may not be alive today. Xiulan, ask him to come over as I was t to thank him personally.” Xiulan’s mother insisted.
She really wanted to meet this person that helped to preserve her life, and give her the best hospital treatment she has ever received in her life.
She felt bad that for a week now, she hasn’t seen him to say thanks. She also felt that it would be rude to ask him to come over so she can thank him, while in fact, she should be the one to find him, but she had no other option.
Xiulan seemed to be exhausted from having this conversation with her mother. “Mum, I told you that my benefactor is my ex-boss and he is always busy. He has lots of meeting to attend, and lots of projects that he is working on, so he can’t be here.”
Her response made her mother remember something. “Xiulan, can you remind me again of why you quit working for your ex-boss when he is such a good man? You had a good pay there, and you looked so much better back then.”
With Fu Ling’s help, the middle-aged woman has begun to see him in a bigger light. She didn’t see anything wrong with him and wondered why her daughter had to quit her job.
Xiulan sighed and refused to talk about it. How could she tell her mother that the sole and only reason she stopped working for her ex-boss was that she was starting to have feelings for him? That doesn’t make sense. And forget the fact that her mother was still weak and couldn’t make large movements, that woman would be ready to hit her if she said the truth.
If her mother learns of that, she would ask her why she didn’t hide her feelings and continue to work for him. Who in the world will quit their job because of that? You should have controlled your emotions! If you want a husband, I can set you up on a blind date.
”Mum, please don’t ask me these questions,” Xiulan replied with a frown.
”Xiulan, I can’t force you to talk about your matter, so I will let this slide. You said your ex-boss is too busy to come over here, then you will go to him on my behalf to thank him.”
”What?” Xiulan reacted with an astonished gaze. Why would she go to meet him when she has thanked him on several occasions? It’s not like she wasn’t going to repay her debts, so why would she have to thank him endlessly?
Xiulan’s mother tried to hoe herself up, which prompted Xiulan to run to her side to assist her.
”I know you have thanked him, but if you understand that I came back from the jaws of death, then you will know that 1 million thanks still won’t be enough. You can’t buy life no matter the amount of money you have, so I am very grateful to him.” Her mother said with a kind smile.
Her speech seemed to strike Xiulan’s heart. Although she has thanked him a lot, it still wasn’t enough for saving her mother’s life. Her mother was the only relative and family she had left on earth and if something had happened to her, she didn’t think that she would have survived it.
So, not just that he saved her mother’s life, but the fact that he also saved her life.
With that, Xiulan agreed to listen to her mother.
”I’m happy that you understand his worth right now. I want you to go home and make some food for him using the special sauce I brought with me. They should be a thank-you lunch.” Her mother said with a smile.
Fu Ling didn’t lack money, so he could fend for himself, but Xiulan’s mother thought that an act of service may be the best way to thank him. He would appreciate their efforts if they did something for him.
”Okay, mum, I will do that tomorrow morning,” Xiulan replied. She had wanted to counter her mother’s idea, but because she didn’t have a better one, she had to accept it.
Tomorrow morning would be the best time to book the dishes and send them to his office before going to her workplace.
”You have to go back now and shop for the fresh ingredients. Make sure to add soup to the food list. There should at least be 5 side dishes.” Xiulan’s mother instructed. She looked so happy with planning the thank you gift.
”Okay,” Xiulan replied, thinking that the instruction was over, but the next one shocked her, such that she was speechless for several seconds.
”That’s not all, hold on. You have to do this every workday till I am discharged from the hospital. You have to prepare all my restaurant’s special for him. A special meal each day. Then when I am released from the hospital, we will invite him to your place to have the Grand dinner before I travel back to our hometown.”
Xiulan’s mother ran a restaurant in their hometown, so they both knew a lot about making delicious dishes.
Xiulan was still shocked that she had to shop every evening for fresh ingredients and every morning, she would wake early to prepare the food with them, and then send it to Fu Ling before going on with her daily duties.
Not just that, she had to prepare her mother’s restaurant special, a new one each day. She has to do this till her mother is discharged from the hospital.
Xiulan wished she could faint right now as she watched her mother smile while dishing out the stressful tasks she would have to do.
