A hush fell over the general meeting and everyone turned to look at Chu Zhiyun in unison.
Panic flickered in Chu Zhiyun’s eyes, but she fought it immediately. “Where’s security? Escort this man out. If you have any questions, I’ll see you in court!”
“Have I hit a nerve?” An Yibei said unhurriedly, making sure to annoy her to the fullest extent. “Ms. Chu, what right do you have to stand here? What makes you qualified to attend this general meeting?”
“Why, I see you’re here to stir up trouble!” A man stepped out. “Ms. Chu is Mr. Song’s widow and she has every right to be here!”
An Yibei adjusted his glasses. “However, Mr. Song and Ms. Chu never signed a marriage certificate. Of course, a recognized marriage can take many forms and a marriage certificate isn’t requisite.”
An Xiaxia was a little confused. What was An Yibei playing at? Why had he contradicted himself as soon as he had challenged Chu Zhiyun?
Chu Zhiyun looked impatient. “I signed a marriage contract with Mr. Song and that’s recognized by law!”
“Have you?” An Yibei kept smiling. “Unfortunately, I’ve seen that contract myself. The signatures on it are of Chu Zhiyun and Song Huan, correct?”
Looking around the room, An Yibei immediately spotted Sheng Yize and gestured at the latter. Sheng Yize went up to them with an impassive face. “The contract is of course legitimate if you were Chu Zhiyun. However, you’re not her.”
The room erupted. “Is he nuts? Who else can she be?”
Chu Zhiyun’s face went ghastly pale.
That was from another lifetime. How did they find out?
“Ms. Chu, you had a younger twin sister once. You had a heart condition when you were 17 and she died in a car accident at that time, so you had a heart transplant and were given her heart. You survived, but your sister has long passed away,” Sheng Yize said in an indifferent voice. Chu Zhiyun said in a shrill voice, “Stop it!”
An Yibei chimed in. “Here’s an interesting fact: the younger twin was called Chu Zhiyun and the older one Chu Zhiqin. However, why is Chu Zhiyun alive now, but Chu Zhiqin dead?”
“What proof do you have for that? You’re making things up! Security! Where’s security?” Chu Zhiyun had lost control and was screaming hysterically.
Twins…
An Xiaxia murmured. That made sense. If they looked so much alike that even their parents couldn’t tell them apart, Chu Zhiyun could get away with it if she insisted that she was who she said she was.
“Unlucky for you, Ms. Chu, the real Chu Zhiyun once provided a blood sample for a science project and her DNA is on file. We’ll know who you are once we run a DNA test.” An Yibei shrugged. “You’re going to be prosecuted for fraud and attempted murder. The police are waiting for you outside. Let’s go!”
“I’ve attempted no murder!” Chu Zhiyun came back to herself at the last moment.
It was possible to be exonerated for fraud, for she hadn’t actually obtained any shares yet. However, add attempted murder to the list and she might have to spend the rest of her life in prison!
“But Song Qingwan, your daughter, has already confessed. She said you were the one who put her up to the shooting and your fingerprints are on that gun. I think the police will discover whether or not you did it!”
“That bitch… she double-crossed me!” Chu Zhiyun said incredulously.
