Sheng Yize tried to stop him, but he was too late.
An Xiaxia was slapped hard on her cheek.
The force knocked An Xiaxia to the floor right away and she looked at Mr. Song in disbelief.
“Are you out of your mind? How could you push her down the stairs? You could have killed her!” Mr. Song scolded her, then asked the others to call the family doctor.
An Xiaxia sat on the stairs, her ears buzzing nonstop.
Sheng Yize went up to her in a hurry. “Xiaxia, are you alright?”
An Xiaxia waved at him, gesturing that she was fine.
“I didn’t push her,” An Xiaxia said with much difficulty.
Mr. Song cast her a stern look. “I know you won’t accept her, but is this really necessary? Xiaxia, your willful decision to send Qingwan to prison has already given me a difficult time, why won’t you leave Auntie Chu alone?”
An Xiaxia burst into tears at this groundless accusation.
Sheng Yize gave her hand a squeeze, then looked up at Mr. Song. “So, it’s alright for you to hit her?”
“She’s my daughter and I can hit her however I want!” Mr. Song thumped his walking stick on the floor. “She’s like this now because no one properly disciplined her! She will never learn if I don’t hit her!”
“I didn’t push her! I didn’t!” An Xiaxia shouted.
Mr. Song was furious. “I saw it with my own eyes and you’re still denying it? You’re exactly like that mother of yours…”
He stopped abruptly in the middle of the sentence.
That set An Xiaxia off. “Just like my mother? As in being driven crazy by you people? Are you going to send me to a mental hospital as well?”
“You’re talking nonsense again!”
“Adulterers like you two should be the ones locked up in the mental hospital! Killing my mother wasn’t enough for you, was it?”
Mr. Song said angrily, “Are you saying I should be the one who died there?”
“Yes! I want you to die more than anything else! Give me back my mother!” An Xiaxia screamed hysterically before bursting into tears.
Mr. Song was going to hit her again, but Sheng Yize stopped him.
“That’s enough! If Mr. Song must vent your violence on another person, go find someone else. My woman is off limits!” Sheng Yize shielded An Xiaxia behind him.
Blue veins popped on Mr. Song’s forehead, but Sheng Yize ignored him completely. He then led An Xiaxia out of the house.
An Xiaxia was still crying when he sat her down in his car. “Why won’t he believe me…”
Sheng Yize listened in silence and wiped her tears away.
“Do you believe me?” An Xiaxia turned to Sheng Yize with teary eyes.
Sheng Yize whispered, “You dummy…”
An Xiaxia sobbed. “Do you think I pushed her down the stairs, too?”
Sheng Yize pulled her into his arms. “Why would I help you if I didn’t believe you?”
An Xiaxia blinked. “What did you say?”
Sheng Yize’s heart sank. He then touched her left ear.
Under the overhead light in the car, his palm came back covered with blood.
Damn it!
He cursed under his breath and hit the gas pedal. The car raced toward the nearest hospital.
The test results came back with a minor concussion and a ruptured eardrum.
One could imagine how hard Mr. Song had hit her.
After tucking An Xiaxia in, Sheng Yize hurried back to the Song family home.
At that moment, Mr. Song was comforting Chu Zhiyun by her bed. The bedroom door was kicked open and a person marched in, dragging Chu Zhiyun out of bed.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Mr. Song was shocked.
“Didn’t you say my wife pushed her down the stairs? I’ll make that happen!” A bone-chilling air seemed to come off Sheng Yize!
