Su Xiaomo had a hard time keeping the smile off her face. It was so hilarious to see someone as tender as He Jiayu sing such a song!
He Jiayu stopped after a few lines and sighed. “I think I’m out of tune…”
Su Xiaomo was cracking up inwardly, but managed to keep a straight face. “No! You’re doing a great job!”
“Really?” The corner of He Jiayu’s mouth twitched.
“Yes! Keep up the good work! Sing it a hundred times! I’m counting!” Su Xiaomo said in a serious tone.
He Jiayu shook his head and went on singing.
He sang the song over and over again in an affectionate voice.
In the end, Su Xiaomo fell asleep and the song even followed her into her dreams…
When she woke up again, she could still hear He Jiayu’s singing voice.
Turning her head in surprise, she saw that He Jiayu was still humming the song. He only stopped when he saw her wake up, and he asked gently, “How do you feel?”
Su Xiaomo asked dumbly, “What time is it?”
“Hm…” He Jiayu checked his watch. “It’s five thirty in the morning. Are you hungry? Do you need to use the bathroom?”
She fell asleep at around three… So, had He Jiayu sung for over two hours?
“Are you nuts?! Why didn’t you stop?”
He Jiayu looked bewildered. “Didn’t you tell me to sing a hundred times… I thought you loved this song…”
And so he sang.
His voice had gone a little husky, which made Su Xiaomo feel rather apologetic.
“Stop singing and take a nap!”
He Jiayu said innocently, “But where am I going to sleep?”
He darted a guilty look at the empty bed in the room, which was there for the family members of hospitalized patients.
Su Xiaomo was too sleepy to notice the existence of another bed. She said casually, “Hop in.”
“…” He Jiayu hesitated for one second before he nodded. “Sure.” He then took off his shoes and lay down next to Su Xiaomo.
Su Xiaomo yawned and said in a sleepy voice, “Good night.”
He Jiayu’s heart melted at the little face that was so close to him. He stroked Su Xiaomo’s hair and whispered, “Good night.”
They slept in each other’s arms.
–
Su Xiaomo was fully recovered after a fortnight. On the day she was released from the hospital, He Jiayu habitually wanted to take her back to his place, which Su Xiaomo adamantly refused.
“I’m going back home!”
He Jiayu frowned. “They haven’t caught that suspect yet. It’s not safe to live there alone.”
“But… I don’t want to stay at your place!” Su Xiaomo pouted. “It’ll just be for one night! Nothing has happened so far. I can’t be that unlucky, can I?”
All in all, she didn’t want to go with He Jiayu.
She had hit on He Jiayu first, but as it turned out, she was falling for him, but it wasn’t the same the other way round. She had no confidence in He Jiayu’s feelings for her at all.
He Jiayu was indeed a great guy. He was handsome, good-natured, and had a great personality.
He was equally kind to so many people. Hence, Su Xiaomo couldn’t tell if he was nice to her because he liked her, or if he was only treating her the same as with everyone else.
She was very moved when He Jiayu looked after her, but that was all. She didn’t want to play this flirting game anymore.
She wasn’t tough enough for that.
“I’m off! Bye!” Su Xiaomo waved at him, hailed a cab, and left.
He Jiayu stood there dazed for a moment, then grinned.
Using himself as the bait, his fish had finally been hooked.
