Su Xiaomo vented her sarcasm inwardly. “Since when did I agree to that? Hmph!”
She kicked him in frustration. “I’m going to bed.”
He Jiayu was surprised. “Shall I carry you?”
“Yes!”
He Jiayu bent down and picked her up in both arms. All amorous feelings had left Su Xiaomo now and all she felt was sadness.
She remembered that girl, for He Jiayu had talked about her once.
Her name was Luo Qianran.
The girl died because of He Jiayu. That was to say, the memory of her was going to stay with He Jiayu for the rest of his life and she would be irreplaceable to him.
Su Xiaomo had no idea why she was so sad; she also didn’t know that what she was feeling was jealousy. All she knew was that she hated He Jiayu so much!
He Jiayu gently put her down on the bed and Su Xiaomo pursed her lips like a tsundere. “Turn off the light. I want to sleep.”
“Alright.”
He Jiayu switched the light off and the room went dark.
They could hear each other’s breathing in the silence. He Jiayu hesitated and didn’t leave right away.
“What… is going on with you?” he asked.
“I’m fine,” Su Xiaomo said in a dispirited voice. “Please leave. I’d like to sleep now.”
He Jiayu said nothing else and carefully closed the door for her.
–
Su Xiaomo wriggled around under the blanket. She had eaten so much and drowsiness soon washed over her. She fell asleep.
She woke up to an excruciating pain in her belly.
“Ah…” she screamed and groped for her phone. Without thinking, she dialed He Jiayu’s number.
It soon went through and she heard He Jiayu’s husky, sleepy voice on the other end. “Yes?”
“He Jiayu…” Su Xiaomo was almost weeping. “My belly aches! It’s like I’m going to have a baby!”
“Hang on. I’m coming.” He Jiayu quickly got out of bed. Something only occurred to him when he was about to open the door to Su Xiaomo’s room. “Are you dressed?”
Su Xiaomo looked down and felt like crying. “No.”
She was wearing a camisole without a bra, which barely covered anything.
But the pain was so severe that it made her break into a cold sweat, and He Jiayu could hear her muffled groans on the other side of the thick wooden door.
He Jiayu was so worried. He went in, found a sheet in the closet, and stiffly wrapped it around Su Xiaomo while looking away from her.
Su Xiaomo threw herself into his arms as if she was clutching at a life-saving straw. “It hurts… so bad…”
“There, there. I’ve called 120.” He Jiayu rubbed her head. “Just hang on. There’s a hospital nearby and the ambulance will be here in a minute.”
Su Xiaomo was barely conscious from the pain. She was gripping He Jiayu’s waist so hard that her fingers had sunk into his flesh!
He Jiayu didn’t even frown, but only comforted her in a low voice. He then fed her some water and finally calmed her down a little.
The paramedics arrived and Su Xiaomo was taken to the hospital.
He Jiayu hurried off to queue up to register, pay the bill, fetch the medicine… after all that was done, he went to buy Su Xiaomo something to eat.
Inside the ward.
Su Xiaomo lay in bed, looking utterly bewildered.
She had thought that the pain was from eating too much, but as it turned out, the doctor informed her that she had appendicitis!
The necessary operation had been performed, but… but how…
She was still lost in various fancies and conjectures when the door opened and He Jiayu walked in with several thermal containers. His hair was unkempt and he looked very anxious.
Greatly touched, Su Xiaomo was going to make a moving comment when she farted… loudly…
A hush fell over the room.
