Chapter 764: Garona

“Then, who is the famous Assassin of Ravenholdt Manor?” Lu Li asked curiously.
The two most advanced Assassin organisations are MI7 and Ravenholdt Manor, so these two organisations would definitely have information on each other.
“Famous?” Pasonia shook her head and answered, “The Grand Master Thief is not very famous. Ravenholdt Manor is particularly known for their selectiveness. Why would you look for someone famous?”
“It’s my personal bias I guess,” Lu Li said as he smiled sheepishly.
At the present, he only knew the basics of finding a mentor. Most players sought after the coolest, most-flashy person, but it turned out that reality wasn’t like that.
It took a certain degree of skill to be a teacher. There were some pitiful mentors that were blessed with great technique, but not the ability to teach.
The reason why Lu Li didn’t want to find an unknown mentor was because of this. It wouldn’t make sense for to him become the apprentice of a person like that.
It was also impossible to find a new mentor unless you found a way to kill your prior mentor. Otherwise, you would need to find some other way to learn the enhanced skills.
Lu Li had never seen anyone successfully kill a mentor before, not even in his previous life.
There was once a star player who had chosen the wrong mentor. The mentor wasn’t bad, but he couldn’t teach any high-level skills at all. As such, his guild organized a powerful attack on him.
It was said that thousands of top players were killed, and they even had the aid of several other major guilds.
They were filled with confidence and believed that it would be like fighting a Wild Boss. On top of that, the NPC had far lower HP than a typical Boss.
However, reality gave the players a slap across the face.
Since then, no one had dared to attack a professional NPC mentor.
“Child, you’re really making this difficult,” Pasonia sighed as she rubbed her brow, not knowing if she should laugh or cry. “I can’t tell you who the Grand Master Thief is. After all, this is someone else’s secret. If I told you, I might not see the sun tomorrow.”
“Then don’t say it,” Water Fairy urged as she quickly pulled at her mentor.
She didn’t expect that asking her mentor to help Lu Li would carry such a big risk. However, it made sense – a Thief who lurked in the darkness wouldn’t want others to know his identity. Once it was found, the consequences could be devastating.
“With that being said, there are also Thieves who aren’t afraid to be known,” Pasonia said.
“If it won’t get you into trouble, then please tell me,” Lu Li requested gratefully.
“Perhaps you might know Valeera Sanguinar,” Pasonia suggested, then thought for a moment before adding, “She is a strong Thief and I have a good relationship with her.”
“You’re not talking about the King’s friend are you?” Lu Li was puzzled.
Valeera Sanguinar was one of Varian Wrynn’s party members. Her whole family had died at the hands of bandits and she was the only one lucky enough to survive.
At the time, she had nowhere to go. The Scourge’s attack on the Elf’s main city, Quel’Thalas, had caused heavy losses to its people.
The young elf continued to be a survivor until she was abducted by a Thief and sold to Rehgar Earthfury.
Rehgar Earthfury turned her into a gladiator and made fight alongside the Night Elf Druid Broll Bearmantle and Orc Rodier Bloodfist. After Bloodfist’s death, Valeera and Broll welcomed a human Warrior as their teammate. This man was called ‘Ghost Wolf’, but later remembered his name to be Varian Wrynn.
The trio embarked on a journey to help Varian regain his memories and re-take the throne, fighting the black dragon Onyxia who was secretly controlling the human kingdom.
After returning to the throne, King Varian invited Valeera to stay in Stormwind as his advisor. Valeera happily accepted, but under the condition that she did not pledge allegiance to the Alliance. She was only loyal to Varian Wrynn and his son Anduin.
Valeera Sanguinar was an excellent assassin, skilled at using Cheap Shot and a master of poisons, which dealt exceptional damage with her attacks.
Lu Li certainly knew of her, but he wasn’t very excited about it.
“Valeera is currently at the palace. I can help you ask,” Pasonia offered, then paused and continue, “But you better not be too hopeful. She’s lazy and doesn’t like many people in the Alliance other than the king.”
“Thank you. When should I ask about the good news?” Lu Li asked gratefully.
“It’s not that troublesome; it should be quick,” Pasonia answered, then beckoned a few times at the window. A green bird flew in from the outside, then fluttered away after she whispered something in its ear.
Half an hour later, the bird flew back in and began calling out.
To be able to understand birdsong was truly a mark of MI7’s intelligence gathering ability.
Pasonia sighed in disappointment, “I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed. Valeera Sanguinar has no intention of accepting other disciples because she already has one.”
Whoever this person was, they were quick.
Lu Li really wanted to run his mouth. He had been born again and somehow couldn’t find a mentor? What other person knew Water Fairy, had encountered Pasonia and then managed to contact Valeera?
Valeera Sanguinar was the security advisor for the King of Stormwind. With an identity like that, Lu Li would have been very satisfied.
“Are there any other suitable mentors?” Water Fairy asked.
“I have contacted my circle, but there is no one in the palace or in MI7 that is suitable for him,” Pasonia said, feeling sorry too. She didn’t want to disappoint her disciple.
“That’s okay. Perhaps my time has not yet come,” Lu Li sighed, then reluctantly smiled and resigned to his fate.
He had other things to do and time was running out, so he had to leave, along with Water Fairy. They couldn’t just stick around for too long, even though the NPC had given her a sense of motherly love that she had lacked.
“If you find this person, she might be better suited as your mentor than Valeera Sanguinar,” Pasonia said with some hesitation as she made her goodbyes.
“Who is it?” They both wondered why she waited until now to bring this person up. Perhaps she had just forgotten because she was old.
“Garona Halforcen…” Pasonia said with some difficulty. It was as if the name had a magical power that was suffocating her.
Lu Li also felt the same suffocation; this name wasn’t foreign to him at all.
