“How is Ian now?” Lu Jia’er repeated her question.
Jin Shengping threw a sharp look at Lu Jia’er. “Ian is very attached to you. He was on his knees when he begged me to save you back in the days. Now, for your sake, he sabotaged my plan and betrayed me completely at great cost!”
Lu Jia’er was shocked emotionally by his words. Ever since she had recovered her memory, she had been aware that she owed Ian both for their time growing up together, and their past relationship as a couple.
Just now, her major worry was about Jin Shengping’s mental state. At the present moment, she began to fear for Ian’s safety.
Lu Jia’er stared into Jin Shengping’s eyes and asked again, “What are you going to do with Ian?”
“Do you think I would tell you?” Jin Shengping laughed.
Lu Jia’er could not deny that he was right. “Of course not.”
“You are clever!” Jin Shengping smiled. “But, it was because of his sabotage that your consciousness began to awaken by accident. For my research, that was a good thing.”
Lu Jia’er would feel a shudder of fear as she looked at Jin Shengping’s smile now. “Are you saying that I am not free from your manipulation yet?” She had to check.
Jin Shengping smiled but did not answer her question. He walked towards the door on his crutch step by step.
“Mr. Jin!” Lu Jia’er shouted.
Jin Shengping did not stop. But he did spit out a single, barbed sentence, “Why don’t you try and find out?”
Lu Jia’er watched as Jin Shengping walked away. She heard the clear sound of his crutch as it bumped into the ground and then with a cracking sound, the door was closed. A few seconds later, Jin Shengping was behind that see-through glass wall, with Jin Xianglan.
Looking from Lu Jia’er’s point of view, it was as if Jin Shengping and Jin Xianglan were two rulers towering over the masses, staring down at her from a distant place.
That feeling was dreadful and scary.
Slowly, the see-through glass turned back into a white wall, completely pure white. It was quiet in here, so quiet that not a trace of sound could be heard.
Lu Jia’er did not have a history of claustrophobia. Yet as she was lying there, fear began to appear in her eyes. It was not a serious matter to have no freedom of movement for her hands and feet. However, it was appalling that she had no freedom within her mind much less her fate. More importantly, what were they going to do with her? What were they going to do to Ian?
Lu Jia’er was aghast. She began to struggle once again, which was just as useless as before. She felt remorseful. Looking at the glaring light, she yelled out, “Ah… ah… ah…”
Her scream echoed in the lab, again and again. She thought this would cause some alarm but nothing happened.
Half an hour passed. Lu Jia’er knew that her scream was futile now. Outside, Jin Shengping and Jin Xianglan could see everything in the room from the surveillance camera.
Soon, Lu Jia’er composed herself. Continuing to struggle would only waste her energy and panicking would only mess up her mind.
She must calm down to figure out a solution.
Lu Jia’er took a deep breath and told herself to calm down and to pull herself together.
