Ten minutes after, Shien followed Lasha out of the Flowersong Mansion.
“Well then, Mr. Shien. Please take this.”
After exiting the Flowersong Mansion, Lasha gave something to Shien.
“What’s this?”
Shien took that item and asked curiously.
It was an ordinary looking roll of parchment, along with a string tying it together in a scroll like form. It basically looked no different from the adventurer’s certificate that Shien got from the adventurer’s guide previously.
Naturally though, this wasn’t a normal piece of parchment.
“This is basically a kind of magic item.” Lasha spoke calmly, “Although the item itself is constructed out of materials no different from normal parchment, Lady Leisha had used her own space magic to connect it to another piece of parchment. So long as milady writes anything on that parchment, the contents will also show up on your own.”
“Oh?” Shien basically understood, “That is to say this is a means for communications huh?”
“Indeed.” Lasha nodded, “Milady had already set a detection based magic boundary around Lamdrion. The moment the Old Demon Faction appears, milady should be able to detect it immediately. At that time, I hope that Mr. Shien will meet up with milady after getting her message.”
That was basically it.
In the end, Shien still agreed to Leisha’s invitation and decided to work with her to destroy the major section of the Old Demon Faction.
That was for Shien’s own sake too.
“Here’s hoping that the Old Demon Faction will hurry up and show themselves soon.”
Shien was basically hoping for that.
“Indeed.” Lasha spoke with a blank face, “If they don’t show up quickly, milady might have some troubles.”
After all, Jillian was not only someone from the Old Demon Faction, but also someone who had once attacked the capital, organized a widespread assassination plot there, and killed many members of the nobility and even royalty.
There’s no way that the Kingdom would just sit by and ignore such a major criminal.
One can imagine that not long from now, the Kingdom will be sending people over to move Jillian over to the capital for judgment, right?
It was exactly because of that, for the sake of keeping Jillian locked down, that Lamdrion was spending so much to have Leili run about like so.
If things ended up going smoothly, then when the people from the capital arrived, Jillian would be taken to the capital. If that happened, it would have become much more difficult for the Old Demon Faction to perform a rescue.
With that point of consideration, if the people from the capital had arrived, the Old Demon Faction might very well abandon any rescue attempts.
If that happened, then Shien and Leisha’s plans would all be for nothing.
For Shien, that wasn’t really a bad thing. Rather, that was a scenario that Shien would have rather liked. The only issue is that the Old Demon Faction might end up looking for him to try to get revenge for Jillian. Therefore, just to be safe, Shien would still rather personally annihilate them rather than having to keep himself alert to guard against a bunch of dangerous terrorists.
Naturally, Leisha herself hoped to use this situation to deal a heavy blow to the Old Demon Faction and greatly weaken them.
Therefore, both Shien and Leisha were hoping that the Old Demon Faction would show up soon.
“That side should know quite well too. The moment that poser gets handed over to the people from the capital, the difficulty of any rescue would rise by a great deal. Therefore, after they got the news, they’d definitely try to take action without delay.” Shien considered it, “I just don’t know if they can actually make it in time.”
“It shouldn’t be a problem.” Lasha was as calm as ever, “Jillian would definitely not have come to Lamdrion to look for milady on his own. That wouldn’t be very efficient after all. He should have at least brought with him some subordinates. Those subordinates probably have already reported this matter back, and the Old Demon Faction should get the news soon and then immediately mount a rescue.”
“Here’s hoping.” Shein spoke without any real hope. Then he looked toward Lasha and sneakily gave her a once over, “Right, Miss Lasha. Are you not coming with us?”
“Please just call me Lasha, sir.” Lasha so spoke. Although, her tone didn’t seem particularly respectful or polite. It was still with a cool and direct attitude that she continued, “I am merely milady Leisha’s maid. Although I am quite confident in my abilities in daily chores, I am unfortunately not proficient in combat. Even my level is merely 10, so please don’t hold any expectations.”
“Is that so?’ Shien showed his suspicions while muttering to himself, “Isn’t it normal for the maid to be stronger than their master, and only then would they pass as a maid?”
“… If that is what it means to pass, then there probably aren’t many maids with a passing grade.” Lasha seemed to be stunned for a moment by Shien’s words, and only after did she look at Shien again and speak, “Normally, it was always milady Leisha who protected me. It was because she gave me a place to stay that I was able to continue existing. It’s only a shame that I couldn’t help at all when it came to combat, so I must ask that Mr. Shien please help keep milady safe.”
As she said that, Leisha lowered her head to Shien in a perfect bow. Only then did she turn about and left without hesitation.
Shien watched as Lasha left, and only a bit later did he start muttering to himself again.
“Even if you say that, I’m probably not the one who’s capable of doing anything about it, you know?”
Leisha who has space magic probably doesn’t need anyone else to worry about her safety in the first place, right?
“Well, if that guy really does end up in danger at some point, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for me to enact a scene of the hero saving a damsel in distress.”
That too was a kind of cliched development.
Only…
“If she tried to do something like marry me as a reward, then I’ll put up her portrait at the adventurer’s guild’s quest board, and arrange some old adventurer with a big beard to get married in my place.”
Shien spoke to himself with mischievous intent as if he wanted to keep on taking routes off the beaten paths.
“Achoo!”
In the dining room of the Flowersong Mansion, Leisha who was drinking red tea at the moment suddenly let out a cute sneeze before getting shivers all over her body.
“What’s going on? Why did I suddenly get a feeling of determination that I must absolutely keep myself safe no matter what?”
Leisha hugged her own body to keep the shivers away while tilting her head in confusion.
Shien, who had no idea about any of that, just left the Flowersong Mansion in a good mood.
“Vrring!”
At that moment, the area around the Flowersong Mansion shuddered, the scenery warped, and the picturesque garden was once again replaced by a dilapidated old abandoned street.
Shien turned his back on all that and left towards the direction of the adventurer’s guild.
…
When Shien got back to the adventurer’s guild, he found Vivian and the rest of them were waiting for him in the first floor main hall.
“Shien!”
When she saw Shien enter the building, Vivian immediately stood up.
“B-back?”
“Whew…”
Lumia and Melika both let out a sigh of relief.
“…”
Diere seemed to have automatically got up along with Vivian, but then, she immediately sat back down as if nothing had happened.
Within the adventurer’s guild, the various adventurers also ended up turning their gazes onto Shien due to Vivian’s group’s reactions.
Shien just ignored them and came forward,
“Are you guys fine?”
Shien gave the group a once over. After discovering that there weren’t any problems, he finally relaxed for real.
“We should be the one asking you that, right?”
Vivian gave a bitter smile, extended her hand, and took a hold of Shien’s.
“Let’s go. We’ll talk somewhere else.”
As she said that, Vivian brought Shien along to the second floor. Diere, Lumia, and Melika also hurriedly followed along.
The surrounding adventurers saw all that and every single one of them had their eyes wide with surprise.
“Oy…”
“Miss Vivian actually…”
“That newbie…”
Everyone started getting rowdy because of that.
Unfortunately for Shien, he didn’t know about that at all, nor did he know that this would end up causing him some not so minor, but also not so major, issues later on.
