“Now, tell me: How are Little Blackie and Whitey doing?” asked the elder with a smile.
Xia Fei was promptly stunned. Blackie and Whitey? Could this elder be asking about the Black and White Gods? Just how was this elder related to the two? Could he be a nemesis of those two?
Too many questions flashed across Xia Fei’s mind. The Black and White Gods were the ones who had bestowed the Law of Primal Chaos onto Xia Fei; he had once had this guess that the two were also from the Law Realm. It was just that he had not once heard their names uttered ever since his arrival, nor had he seen anyone using the Law of Primal Chaos. Meanwhile, the heaven-defying Law of Primal Chaos had already become Xia Fei’s proprietary. It was a law treasure that always allowed him to win—a magical law that had him subverting the universe time and again.
Something was suspicious here. Very suspicious!
Xia Fei had told himself repeatedly, due to the superhuman analytical ability he possessed, that the Black and White Gods’ identity was dubious. There was no reason why such a law power would be abandoned by both the peak races like this.
Gritting his teeth, Xia Fei solemnly answered the god-like elder, “What Blackie and Whitey? I only have my pet, Furball, here.”
The elder let out an uproarious laughter. “You call the Holy Beast Shatterstar Furball? Trust you, and you alone, to come up with something like that!”
This elder glanced at Furball, who was loyally protecting his master, and persisted in his questioning. “You already know the law that Blackie invented, so there’s no reason why you won’t know where the two of them are right now. Let me give you two choices: speak or die!”
*Boom!*
The oppressive killing intent emanated forth yet again! Once more, Furball, Peacock Blue, Phantom, and Xia Fei all instantly spiraled inside the hurricane!
*Rumble*
A mysterious force suddenly burst forth, and Phantom’s two arms were immediately separated! His entire body then got tossed in the air!
‘Don’t mind me! I can’t die!’ Phantom’s voice rang in Xia Fei’s mind. Unlike the demon lord who communicated with Xia Fei via sensory nerves, Phantom could communicate mentally with Xia Fei directly. As long as the two were close enough, they could establish a telepathic connection.
Xia Fei glared at the elder coldly as he said, “I’ve already told you that I don’t know and that’s that! What Blackie and Whitey? I’ve never even heard of such names before!”
“Hmph!” the elder coldly harrumphed. He then softly said, “You won’t shed a tear until you see your casket, I see. I guess today shall be the day you learn just how powerful this old man is!”
…
It needed no mention just how immensely powerful this god-like elder was! He was practically unparalleled in terms of might!
There was no need for him to even move his hands when facing off against Xia Fei, for he could send the young man flying over and over again, eating dirt each and every time he fell, with just a thought!
*Rumble*
The rocks cracked!
Xia Fei bounced on the ground nearly over a dozen times before coming to a halt. He was being thrown like a skipping stone, making a series of deep craters with every bounce!
*Whoosh—*
The elder swiped one hand in the air, and Xia Fei’s figure suddenly went flying horizontally. It was as if Xia Fei was held in the hand of the elder, who proceeded to drag him toward himself from afar until they were face to face.
Xia Fei’s face was covered in blood; he was a horrific sight to behold, which was a proof of how inhumane a torture he had just experienced in this elder’s hands.
Such a cruel interrogation had already gone on for a full half an hour!
“Let me ask you one last time—” The elder furrowed his brows and glared fiercely at Xia Fei while he exuded that overwhelming killing intent.
“Spit!”
Before the elder could even finish his question, Xia Fei spat a mouthful of blood right at this elder’s face; half a broken tooth even shot out along with it!
The corners of his lips curved feebly. Xia Fei was satisfied as he looked at the very disturbed elder. He actually felt too lazy to even give a proper response, so he just spat blood on the other’s face. This was Xia Fei’s answer!
It was a very disgusting act! To think that he would demonstrate such sass in the face of impending death!
This person whom Xia Fei was facing was someone even Law Overlords had to fall on their knees to. He was a god-like existence!
However, to Xia Fei, no one in the universe could make him feel afraid!
What did it mean to be truly arrogant? This was it!
The elder stood there frozen in place. His glare raged like an inferno; it was of such intensity that it could burn the entire universe!
Killing intent!
Killing intent that could break through the sky!
The entire night sky above seemed to tremble!
Facing this elder’s powerful aura, Xia Fei crooked his head and looked up into the sky above.
‘Too bad that Avril decided to be with a short-lived scoundrel like me,’ Xia Fei quietly thought to himself.
Furball and Peacock Blue, as well as Phantom, all felt furious! They kept trying to reach Xia Fei’s side, but a powerful force was being exerted on them, making it impossible for any of the three to move!
All of a sudden, that aura from the elder dissipated and he let out an awkward chuckle.
*Crash*
Xia Fei was tossed down to the ground. With a wave of the elder’s hand, a faint white glow washed over Xia Fei’s entire being, giving him a sense of comfort. All his internal injuries and external wounds quickly recovered.
“I’m not about to fall for your trick. If I really kill you here, that undying old fool from your clan will surely risk his life to kill me, too.” The elder waved his hand over Xia Fei’s face, and the blood on the latter’s face disappeared without a trace.
The elder’s expression turned back to normal, no longer showing any trace of ruthlessness, assuming the look of an aloof, higher being once more.
“No wonder Blackie and Whitey passed such an important thing to you. Those two weren’t mistaken; you’re really quite the steadfast rascal. Foul and steadfast,” the elder smiled as he commented. He flicked his wrist twice, repeating the same magical treatment on both Furball and Peacock Blue.
Xia Fei looked at the elder curiously, unsure on why the latter had first thrashed him good before being kind enough to heal the wounds the old man himself had inflicted on him.
Xia Fei’s gaze was still glinting with vigilance as he got ready for another attack of this elder. Xia Fei was the sort who would not be fazed by either kindness or cruelty; truly, he had quite a difficult-to-handle personality.
“If you truly betrayed Blackie or Whitey, then I’d really end you here,” said the elder in a grave tone before proceeding to shake his head. “I’ve never imagined, even in my wildest dreams, that the Skywings would have another evildoer. Looks like those madmen are quite the destined lot.”
“We’ll leave today’s matter as it is. Don’t say a word about what happened when you head back. No matter who asks you about it, just act as if nothing occurred here.” The elder shrugged his shoulders as he casually relayed his instructions to Xia Fei.
“Actually, the sins of Blackie and Whitey shouldn’t cause their deaths. It’s more accurate to say that they simply had the misfortune of becoming the sacrificial pawns to the upper echelons’ fighting. If you’re not looking to die any sooner, it’s best that you use less from here on that law power they gave you. What you have is a heaven-defying death scythe but also a plague that will bring down many.
“You’d better mark my words: If you really end up luring those bunch of old immortal fools out, even the grand ancestor from your clan won’t be able to protect you.”
Xia Fei was quite surprised. From this elder’s words, it seemed like the Black and White Gods were in trouble, and it was quite a big problem, too! It was a good thing that he had opted toward keeping his mouth shut earlier, or else he would have brought calamity onto himself by saying the wrong words. It was all thanks to his insistence in keeping mum that kept him alive.
A blur of green flashed before his eyes, and Xia Fei instantly found himself standing on a verdant planet teeming with life and sans any knowledge of what had just transpired. The sweet scent of flora and the chirping of birds stirred his senses; the vegetation around him appeared vibrant, completely different from the purgatory hellscape he had been in moments before.
Changing planets with a raise of hand? Xia Fei attained a new understanding of this mysterious elder’s strength.
Settling on a mossy rock by the creek, the elder muttered, “It’s just too bad that there really exists someone whom even this old man has no way of dealing with.”
With that said, the elder gazed at Xia Fei meaningfully. “There’s no need for you to remain so tense. I already said that I won’t be killing you, so I really won’t. If I kill a future Godwing, that immortal old coot from your clan will surely fight to the death with me.”
“Godwing?” Xia Fei was somewhat surprised to hear that term.
“Don’t you know?” asked the elder, puzzled.
“Should I know what that means?” Xia Fei countered.
The elder was really helpless on how to deal with such a recalcitrant brat. Admittedly, he did give Xia Fei a good thrashing, and considering Xia Fei’s personality of holding a grudge even for the slightest offense, treating the young man’s wounds was hardly enough to gain his trust.
“You’ve attained the maximum level for your speed ability, haven’t you?” the elder sighed as he questioned.
Xia Fei nodded.
“Having a one hundred twenty thousand meters per second speed isn’t that impressive, but it does mean that you have an unlimited potential for improvement. In your Xia family, warriors who begin cultivating the Law of Speed at level 1 and 2 of their speed special ability are called Greatwings, level 3 and 4 as the starting line are called Featherwings, 5 and 6 are Flightwings, and 7 and 8 are Skywings. As for those who begin at max level, they’re known as Godwings, for having the greatest potential and cultivation in your clan.
“Of course, this doesn’t mean that you’re considered a Godwing right now, but it does show that you have a chance of becoming one in the future. Of course, your clan hardly has any Featherwings or Greatwings, for your people are truly too perverse, always producing elites. Basically, any random warrior you grab will either be a Flightwing or a Skywing.”
The elder was a little talkative, and Xia Fei could not help but knit his eyebrows.
‘They all have wings, anyway. Aren’t they all still considered part of the clan?’ Xia Fei mentally mused.
The elder paused before continuing his explanation. “The speed ability is very strange, being split into nine levels. Take Patriarch Xia Buyun as an example; with his Skywing potential, his starting speed is sixty thousand meters per second. He hit 120,000 at the first level of Law of Speed, 240,000 at the second level, 480,000 at third level, 960,000 at fourth level, and 1,920,000 at the fifth level.
“As for you, a max-level speed ability user, your starting speed is 120,000 meters per second. Successful cultivation of the Law of Speed will give you a speed of 240,000 meters per second. As such, compared to others at the same level, you’re a whole league better! Do you understand what I’m trying to say here?” The elder chuckled.
Xia Fei did a mental calculation and was utterly astonished. “D’you mean to say that, if my patriarch and I both cultivate the Law of Speed to the last level, he’ll hit his limit at 15,360,000 meters per second, while I’ll hit mine at over 30,000,000 meters per second?
“Heavens! According to physics, the speed of light clocks a speed of 299,792,458 meters per second, so 30,000,000 meters per second means that I can move at one-tenth the speed of light!”
Xia Fei was utterly dumbfounded. He could hardly believe that it was possible for one to achieve near lightspeed! Just what kind of situation was that like?
The elder laughed, feeling pleased. “What’s so surprising about that? It’s just one-tenth the speed of light.”
Before he finished saying his piece, the elder abruptly lifted his head and waved his sleeve toward the night sky above. “Fine, I won’t say anything more!”
It seemed like he was speaking to someone, but when Xia Fei looked up, he however saw nothing. He had no idea if this elder had suddenly succumbed to hysteria.
“Be it the speed ability or the Law of Speed, both are famous for being hellish and hard to cultivate. To succeed in reaching max level, it’s still too early to say! In any case, aside from being honored with a title by the Skywings, there are plenty of perks to being a Godwing. After all, very few warriors can start cultivating the Law of Speed with max speed ability. If not for that, being a Godwing wouldn’t be so precious.”
With that said, the elder got up and stretched.
“About time I leave. Fortunately, it’s me who came to White Horse Constellation. This rascal, you’re hiding so many secrets; aren’t you afraid of getting killed?” Eyeing Xia Fei pointedly and sternly, the elder walked over and said, “Just like that individual in your ring; you can’t keep him no matter what!”
