The God Race, the Fig Corporation, the Experimental Genetics Laboratory.
This was the most intricate blood analysis machine in the entire Law Realm. It was about two stories tall and was built from numerous intricate chips. The crystalline pipes flashed, making this enormous machine appear gorgeous and bizarre.
A single drop of blood, Xia Fei’s blood, was placed in a test tube and sent into the machine. A few minutes later, a detailed blood analysis report appeared in the hands of Analyst Kong Jian.
“Four-star lineage?!” Kong Jian glanced at the report and immediately saw it for what it was. He frowned and muttered, “What’s going on here? Strange, very strange.”
A few minutes later, Kong Jian knocked on the office of Genetics Laboratory Chief Franklin. Franklin was a dignified old man, his silver hair submissively lying across his head, meticulously combed. He was wearing black-framed glasses, sitting at his desk and reading through the latest data reports.
“Come in!” Franklin said without raising his head.
Kong Jian came inside and respectfully said, “Chief, the analysis report the Skywings wanted has come out.”
Franklin glanced at Kong Jian and unhappily said, “If the analysis report is out, send it over to them. There’s no need to report to me.”
Kong Jian seemed to be in a difficult spot. “There’s something off about this report, and I’d like you to take a look at it.”
Franklin took off his glasses and rubbed his dry eyes as he sternly asked, “What’s wrong with it? Have the genes mutated?”
“I’m not too sure. Based on our data, the bloodline standard of the Skywings in the Law Realm is three stars, but the person we’ve just tested has four-star blood, which is slightly higher than the Skywing Clan. Moreover, twenty-five percent of his DNA isn’t in our databanks, so we don’t know which lineage he inherited it from.”
Kong Jian presented the report to Franklin.
Franklin had been rather fatigued as of late, so he did not appear that excited. That tiger of a wife back home was reaching the menopausal stage and was causing trouble every waking moment. Franklin was helpless on how to deal with it, so he just used work as an excuse to go back home as little as possible and hear less of her nagging. This was the fourth day he had been living in the office, and he had to go back home no matter what today. The thought of his wife’s cold wave had Franklin feeling very uneasy.
Twenty-five percent unknown DNA content piqued Franklin’s interest. He patiently looked over the complicated analysis report and smiled. “This is very normal. The person being tested is from the lower realm, and many of those families don’t have records with us. There’s nothing to be surprised about having part of his bloodline unknown. A Fifty-five percent Earthling and twenty-five percent Skywing lineage are enough to verify his identity.”
Humanity could be considered one of the major species in the universe and was one of the species that Fig Corporation specifically monitored. At set intervals, updated bloodlines would be sent to the laboratory. Earth had joined the Panhuman Alliance some time ago, so Fig Corporation’s laboratory had DNA files regarding Earthlings.
Kong Jian frowned. “Still, the Skywing bloodline is three stars. Why would the person tested be evaluated as four stars?”
Franklin put his glasses back on and vigorously asked, “You’ve been with the gene engineering lab for some time now, yes?”
“About a year and a half,” Kong Jian solemnly replied.
“That’s too short. You still have much to learn. The Skywings have an exclusive inheritable chromosome, Y11-734915. This is the superspeed gene that only they possess. Strictly speaking, their bloodline should be evaluated as 3.5 stars. At the same time, their other inheritable chromosome, HD-998627, possesses powerful genetic mutation capabilities. You’re a very talented genetic engineering student, so you should know what this means, yes?” Franklin casually asked.
Kong Jian was stunned. “So you’re saying that the Skywing Clan’s bloodline rating is impossible to fix. Their bloodline is constantly bouncing around three stars. If the mutations are good enough, they can even produce a five-star bloodline warrior! Heavens! That’s incredible!”
Franklin nodded his head in satisfaction. Only the best of the best could join Fig Corporation. In his eyes, Kong Jian was simply lacking in experience. He had a good foundation and could quickly determine where the problem was.
“Correct. The Skywing Clan is very incredible. They not merely pass down speed but also gene mutation. They can’t be judged using the common standards. The person being tested may have become a four-star bloodline warrior because of gene mutation, so there’s no need to cause a fuss. Go and look at the databanks yourself. The Skywings might have even produced five-star bloodline war gods before.”
“Five stars!” Kong Jian was even more shaken. Bloodline was not omnipotent, but not having one was also no good. For example, why were other people unable to reach the superspeeds of the Skywing Clan? It was because of bloodline. Moreover, these scientists who researched this topic would focus even more on the question of bloodline.
Franklin paused for a moment and then continued speaking. “As for this twenty-five percent unknown DNA, perhaps there’s some other species that got mixed into his lineage. It’s just a warrior from the lower realm. There’s nothing to analyze here. Just send the report over to them.”
Kong Jian firmly nodded. He had developed a completely new understanding of the Skywings, this clan with a lineage of speed.
…
White Horse Constellation, Galewind Garden.
Xia Fei felt rather desolate as he waited for the result of the blood test. This was because he knew that he was an Earthling. Once the report came out and the Skywings realized that they had misunderstood who he was, what would they do? Xia Fei had no idea.
To tell the truth, Xia Fei rather liked these crazies, and he felt that there was really no problem if he turned out to be a Skywing.
This was when he heard Oro mutter, “Ah! I didn’t think you’d be a Skywing. I knew that something was weird about you, but I’ve never thought… never thought…”
His words faltered, and then he dejectedly continued. “Forget it. You were all alone in the Law Realm before, but now you have people to rely on, and they’re powerful backers at that. This isn’t a bad thing. I can’t believe I tried recruiting you to the Lionheart Royalty,” Oro said as he shook his head self-mockingly. “How could a mighty Skywing run over to the Lionhearts? Laughable, truly laughable.”
Oro appeared very dispirited, repeating the word ‘laughable’ several times. Xia Fei asked him, “How do you know so much about the Skywings?”
Oro went through great difficulty to shift his body around the ice coffin, placing his hands behind his head as he recollected. “To tell you the truth, I don’t have any good impression of your Skywing Clan. There aren’t a lot of Skywings, but all of them are Law of Speed experts and possess incredible fighting power. The God Race has several blades, and your clan is called the Demon Sealing Fiend Blade, the sharpest of the bunch.”
“The Demon Sealing Fiend Blade?”
“Mm.” Oro sternly nodded. “Fiend Blade because your family has strange personalities, like they are fiends, and they were also superspeed warriors, sharp and decisive in battle. Demon sealing is because of your clan’s achievements. Many of the Demon Race’s warriors have become ghosts under this blade, with countless Lionhearts alone having been slaughtered. It’s really laughable. You’re a Skywing and I’m a Lionheart. We should have been mortal enemies, but now, we’re friends…”
Oro seemed to have some lingering fear, and he felt sorrow as he recalled how the people of his had been slaughtered by the Skywings. However, Xia Fei seemed unhappy that Oro was alway including ‘you’ with ‘Skywings’. He softly grumbled, “I’m an Earthling, not a Skywing, okay?”
Xia Fei paused as he pondered on Oro’s words, asking thereafter, “So you’re saying that the Skywings are all assassins that the God Race use to kill their foes?”
Oro suddenly became angry. “Assassins kill in the shadows, but your clan kills out in the open! The God Race has many blades that it uses to kill enemies, and the worst of them all is your clan! There’s no end to them!
“Our Lionheart Royalty once had a good friend, a Law Overlord of the Nofei Clan, who killed one of your Skywing Law Emperors. Do you know what happened to him? The Skywings hunted down his Nofei Clan for a whole seven years! Seven years! Those people from your clan will come over to kill if they’re happy but also if they’re unhappy or drunk!
“In the end, the Nofei Clan was completely uprooted, the surviving old and young leaving the Law Realm. Only then did the Skywings give up!”
‘So much resentment?’ Xia Fei pursed his lips. Not only did Oro not like the Skywings, he was certain that Xia Fei was one of them! He was constantly saying ‘your clan,’ ‘your Skywings,’ et cetera, causing Xia Fei to feel that he was being unjustly accused. After all, it was not as if he had exterminated that clan himself.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and Xia Zonghai entered. “The patriarch is looking for you.”
Xia Fei knew that the blood test was out and the truth was about to be revealed.
If this was going to be his misfortune, Xia Fei knew that there would be no avoiding it, so he did not think about it too much. He followed Xia Zonghai out of the room to the rear courtyard, where Xia Buyun lived.
Taking several turns and passing through an arched gateway, they entered the spacious rear garden.
The elites of the Xia family were gathered here. Someone was playing the huqin, someone was reading a book, and some huddled together to gossip; the Skywings were very carefree and casual when not fighting. Everyone had their own hobbies, and they would rarely return to the clan and would even more rarely meet with one another. Since this was one of those rare occasions when they were all together, it was only right that they should take the time to better get to know one another.
When Xia Fei and Xia Zonghai arrived, everyone stopped what they were doing and warmly called Xia Fei, not treating him like an outsider at all. Xia Fei could only return their greetings.
As they entered the study, they saw Xia Buyun and Xia Tian sitting next to each other and whispering together. When they saw Xia Fei, they stopped talking and handed him the blood test report so that he could see it himself.
He immediately saw the insignia of the Fig Corporation. Xia Fei had long ago heard about this supreme scientific organization of the Law Realm. Even without seeing the report, Xia Fei already trusted its authority.
“Twenty-five percent matched to Skywing Clan’s DNA?!” Xia Fei’s eyes flew open in disbelief. Not even in his wildest dreams did he imagine that he would actually possess Skywing blood!
His mind fell into disarray. He was just an Earthling, so how did he end up with twenty-five percent Skywing blood? How was that even possible!
Xia Buyun seemed very solemn, sternly saying, “It has been verified that you truly are a descendant of our Skywing Clan. Even though it is only twenty-five percent, you are still one of us! There’s no questioning this.”
Xia Fei felt like his brain was about to explode, for his thoughts were in a mess. He was just about to ask who his parents were when Xia Tian hastily said, “Save any questions for later! For the decisive battle one month from now, your special training must begin immediately!”
