Middle of the night, in front of Shuiyue Mansion.
Gu Jiangxin just got out of his car and arrived home smelling like alcohol.
“Oh, dear, you drank again? Let me get you some hangover soup.
Dong Xiaotong, the secretary turned new Mrs. Gu, quickly walked up to him.
She helped him take off his suit in person and undid his tie.
Gu Jiangxin’s anger was half gone.
He sat and enjoyed the relaxing massage from his young wife and sipped the honey hangover soup that she had made for him.
He might not have been very happy the moment he stepped inside the door but the way he looked at Dong Xiaotong was tender.
“Home is always the best.”
Gu Jiangxin reached out and stroked his new wife’s smooth face.
He had only seen her as a temporary place to turn to for some affection; a kind of outlet from his overwhelming work.
Ever since he had decided to get a divorce and married Dong Xiaotong, he was more and more certain that he had made the right decision.
Dong Xiaotong and Zhang Wen were two opposite types.
When he reached home and was too tired to even talk in the past, Zhang Wen had never said a kind word to him.
She had Aunty Zhang took care of everything.
He was exhausted every night but, when he returned to the bedroom, he’d see Zhang Wen sitting in bed with her mask on or reading a magazine.
She did not offer half of Dong Xiaotong’s tenderness.
Some of his apologetic feeling and guilt had been alleviated when he visited the capital today and was given a hard time by the Zhang family. Now, with his new wife waiting on his hand and foot, all of them were gone!
Lying on the couch for a little while, he couldn’t help but frowned.
While Dong Xiaotong was giving him a massage, he couldn’t help but started recalling what had transpired at the dinner banquet today.
The newly arrived Mayor Liu had a smile on him and was soft spoken the entire time.
He seemed to have the tens of real estate companies’ best interest in mind but also seemed to be keeping a certain distance from them, refusing to offer any favoritism.
Finally, he talked about the reason behind the newest policies on tightening the control over real estate and gave the empty speech of how they would all work together hand in hand.
He offended nobody nor did he establish a relationship with anyone.
Gu Jiangxin frowned. “Xiaotong, didn’t you go to dine with several families a while back? How did that go?”
He tried to hand over a card to Secretary Zhang, but he declined.
He did, however, let him know of how much Mayor Liu had appreciated some ink paintings today.
Ink Painting Guru… no trade record of any sort on the market. Not even the Ink Painting Association held any of her work.
The work of local artists would normally be picked up by local collectors.
Each family in the upper-class circle usually had their own preference in collection.
What he didn’t know was who possessed any of this Ink Painting Guru’s work.
If he could somehow get his hand on it and gift it to Mayor Liu…
He wanted to look into that but, as a man, it was not appropriate for him to pry about others’ collections.
It was best to send the wife to do the job.
He turned and gave his young wife a look as he thought about it.
Dong Xiaotong, on the other hand, chuckled when she heard his question. “They went well. Everybody is very interesting. I will be going with Mrs. Zheng to the spa tomorrow and a diamond exhibition over the weekend.”
Mrs. Zheng.
Gu Jiangxin’s shoulders, just relaxed from the massage, stiffened up again.
Zheng Mingchang was a parvenue riche and this current Mrs. Zheng was also his second wife, a young flight attendant.
The two of them would be going to a diamond exhibition together…
Gu Jiangxin felt his heart dropped a little. Then he remembered Zhang Wen’s pampered lady look.
She might not be good at taking care of things or people, but she was elegant with good family background. She had good reputation among the entire wealthy wife circle in City Shen. A few ladies of the older generation also liked her a lot and would invite her over to their places on a regular basis.
Zhang Wen would never hang out with Mrs. Zheng, a second wife of a parvenue riche.
“What about the Chen and Li families…?”
Gu Jiangxin had an odd look when he was half way through talking.
Sure enough, Dong Xiaotong bit her lip and said, “I went over to the Chen’s but neither one of these other two madams showed up. I think they were sick. I’ve tried to invite them over, but it seemed they are gone overseas with their children.”
Gu Jiangxin collapsed back against the couch.
