The hair on the back of Siyi had all stood up.
Talking back to his father-in-law and hanging up on him, his boss surely acted as if he was a deity of some sort.
But, after giving it some more thought, that was understandable too. It wasn’t like Miss Gu had just moved into the mansion after the engagement ceremony yesterday.
Yet her father had never once showed up.
Never mind about coming over to check and see how his daughter was doing, he had never even invited her home to have a meal.
He had never heard Miss Gu talking on the phone with her family.
The Gu’s were so cold to Miss Gu.
They weren’t family at all.
“Just tell him I’m not available if he calls again.”
Huo Sishen closed up the document and tossed it onto the seat.
He lowered his eyes and the cold fierceness in his eyes were hidden.
They had never even bought her an item of clothing. What else would they contribute at the wedding other than showing off their stupidity of doting on the adopted daughter?
Huo Sishen didn’t say a word but the feel of him ready to snap was obvious.
They were afraid of him. So afraid that they wouldn’t even call him directly or show up at the engagement ceremony. Then why the heck did they send their daughter his way?
How was that any different than selling off their daughter?
And they didn’t even buy her a article of clothing before they sold her off.
Ridiculous!
“Were the Gu’s involved in the Huo’s mess?”
Siyi smiled bitterly, “Boss Gu has 5% shares.”
Huo Sishen gave him a cold look. “Don’t let Miss Gu hear about this.”
Siyi nodded immediately. “Okay.”
Being made so clear that she was nothing more than a chip of the table could not possibly make her feel good
“That jerk!”
Gu Jiangxin started cussing loudly after he hung up the phone.
Zhang Wen, Mrs. Gu, gave her husband a helpless look. “Be careful of your blood pressure. Don’t be mad already. Are we really going to go even if he had sent us an invitation?”
“That totally two different things! She wasn’t raised by us. What kind of upbringing was that? She doesn’t even know to be familial to her parents! If only she was half as mature as Wushuang, she would never have treated us this way!”
Gu Jiangxin found that hard to accept.
“She doesn’t’ care about her parents at all! I had to find out from Lao Li that her wedding is to be held at Maldives. How ridiculous was that?!”
Even the way he was looking at his wife became somewhat disgruntled. “Neither you nor Wushuang told me about it after you’ve found out. You didn’t see how Lao Li was looking at me when he told me!! There was so much mockery on his look. He even said for me to pay more attention to my real daughter like I was somehow abusing her or something!”
Zhang Wen didn’t look too happy either. Twisting in her seat, she said, “That’s what he said to you?”
“Jiangxin, it, it is true that we haven’t been paying Shishi enough attention.”
“Attention? How were we supposed to pay her attention? Did you think I wanted to miss out on her engagement ceremony? You knew that I had to go overseas for a business meeting at the time!”
Gu Jiangxin slammed his cellphone down onto the end table irritably.
He loosened up his tie.
“And the few banquets that followed, either you or Wushuang didn’t feel well.
“I couldn’t very well go to someone else’s house to pay attention to my daughter, could I? You didn’t hear that Huo kid’s tone when he talked to me. Had I gone, he probably would have kicked me out of his house!”
Zhang Wen sighed.
“Back then we wanted her to spend more time with Young Master Huo and thought it’d be best for them to live together and see how the two of them would get along. In others’ eyes, we came across as being unfeeling.”
As she spoke, her eyes reddened.
Zhang Wen was also a delicate beauty back in her days. With her fair skin and slender waist, she possessed the unique charm and tenderness of a girl from Jiangnan.
She was older now but with regular upkeep and frequent visit to spas, she still looked to be at her prime.
In fact, she had an added maturity from being well experienced as compared to younger girls.
Gu Jiangxin was one who would dote on his wife.
He felt bad when he saw her cry.
He reached around her shoulder and patted her.
“I’ve explained it to Lao Li already. Shishi will understand where we came from when she has her own children.”
Those who made mistakes never felt that they had done anything wrong.
Especially those who were very successful in certain areas; they would always feel that they were in the right.
That they were good enough to think for others, make decision for others, and that others would be appreciative of their efforts in the future.
Gu Jiangxin doubtless had that type of confidence in himself.
