On the top of Qifeng Mountain, a pretty flower was in full bloom. Its petals encompassed the colors of the rainbow, vibrant yet psychedelic. However, it began to wilt into a pile of rotten soil at the next moment.
With his representative sword casually laying on the ground beside him, Warrior Mentor half-squatted by the Half-Hour Flower, and his face was full of adoration. Suddenly, a tiger roar came from the foot of the mountain, signifying Lin Jie’s arrival!
‘Mentor is still alive!’ Lin Jie was elated.
But at this time, in the void, a cold Crescent Dagger suddenly pierced towards the mentor’s head ferociously. Not only that, as a powerful Job-Changed NPC, the mentor did not even notice the coming danger. Judging from this, the man who came to assassinate Warrior Mentor must be an expert, or at least a Sub-Legendary NPC!
Lin Jie was shocked. They were 40 yards apart, he could not possibly catch up even if he was in full swing! If he could not reach in time, his mentor would end up dead like what had happened in his previous life. Moreover, as the witness, Lin Jie would receive a large-scaled continuous mission [City of Light Serial Homicide]. However, this was not what he wanted! If Reggie died, Lin Jie’s effort would be wasted, and his Epic Job Mission would be in vain.
‘I can’t get close enough to him with Wild Charge, Enrage, and even Hunter’s Forward Charge, the NPC has to move on its own!’
Lin Jie’s pupils constricted, and he shouted out of a sudden, “Miya is a b*tch!”
“You’re looking for death!”
Warrior Mentor was enraged. The earth shook as he stamped his right leg heavily on the ground. The sword on the group dropped in his hand like a carp jumping on water, and he rushed towards Lin Jie while activating Enhanced Forward Charge. His momentum was like a charging army!
The most triggering thing for men were women! His speed was far beyond the understanding of the players, and the afterimages generated due to Forward Charge made Lin Jie’s eyes flit through a trace of envy involuntarily.
Bang—
Lin Jie felt that his throat was almost squashed. Warrior Mentor grabbed Lin Jie and said ferociously, “Human, if you think you can talk wildly due to your ability to revive countless times, I’ll make sure you’ll be overwhelmed with sorrow!”
“Frostbolt!”
Just then, a long spear-sized arrow came! The arrow fell from the sky and pierced into the soil. Its body was so cold as if it was shaped by frost, and when it spun abruptly, ice crystals shot everywhere. A cry of anguish and screams of death from the Bandits were heard in the void. Obviously, this attack was not only powerful but also wide-ranged! A Bandit suddenly appeared, tried to attack but failed and exposed himself, and then disappeared using Forced Invisibility.
At the foot of the mountain, Miya, the beautiful Hunter Mentor, loosened her bowstring and rushed up, looked at Warrior Mentor, who had grabbed Lin Jie, and yelled, “Let him go! He’s trying to save you.”
Warrior Mentor was a shrewd man, so he understood the whole story the instant he noticed the Bandit. He said with a serious face, “Of course, I understand my disciple’s intention. To be honest, Miya, I’ve been planning to accept him as my Heritage Disciple. Just now, we were just acting and trying to counter-ambush the Bandit!”
Lin Jie was dumbfounded. Warrior Mentor was really shameless! But looking at Miya’s doubtful eyes, Lin Jie quickly nodded and said, “Yes, mentor sent me a message earlier, asking me to act according to the plan.”
Miya heaved a sigh of relief and laughed. “I was worried about you. I didn’t know that you’re as meticulous as a Hunter.”
Warrior Mentor laughed out loud and suddenly patted his head. He wanted to pick up the Half-Hour Flower on the ground. However, he then realized that it had withered and turned into a pinch of soil.
The atmosphere suddenly became a little awkward.
Lin Jie thought for a second and hurried forward, smiled, and said, “Actually, it’s wrong to say that the Half-Hour Flower is only beautiful during the half-hour of its blossom.”
“Oh?”
Lin Jie’s words immediately attracted Miya’s attention. Girls, even NPCs, were interested in the stories of flowers and plants.
“The Half-Hour Flower’s origins can be traced to the Tribe of Darkness, at City of Funeral Bell, to be more specific! Only in the Undead city, where friendship, kinship, and love are foreign concepts, will be filled with this kind of flower because it will wither under any good mood.” Lin Jie’s eyes turned, and his meaningful look made the two NPC mentors blush. He added, “When it occasionally appears in the Guild of Light, the males always want to pick the flower and give it to the women they love when they see it, but they fail every time. This is because the ones with love cannot have this flower. Mentor, it seems that you’re not qualified to get the Half-Hour Flower.”
Lin Jie’s intention was obvious—he was helping Warrior Mentor to confess!
This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! They were surrounded by birds, flowers, and grass, while the Bandits around had long been instakilled by Miya’s Frostbolt. If he did not help them now, there would be no more chance for them when they got back to the Job-Changing Hall.
“I… I…” Miya was a little shy, her long elf’s ears moved. She was attracted by this strong man.
Lin Jie quickly took out the wine which Baili Changcheng had treated him last time and stuffed it into Warrior Mentor’s hands. “Invite her to enjoy the wine with the beautiful scenery!”
“OK!” As Warrior Mentor was about to take over the wine, Lin Jie suddenly dropped his hand and asked in a lower volume, “Mentor, did you just say that you’re going to accept me as your Heritage Disciple?”
“Of course!” He said heroically, “Although you’re a human, you’re entitled to take over my mantle! I studied the Storm Swordsmanship from the Gale Sword Saint, and if you practice humbly, you’ll be able to make small achievements.”
Lin Jie blinked his eyes and said, “But mentor, my main purpose here is to complete my job mission!”
“Let’s talk about this when we get back!”
“No! Let’s get it done now!” said Lin Jie with a serious face. Now was the crucial period of his dating, it would be a pity if he did not ‘blackmail’ him!
Lin Jie smiled insidiously and said, “Mentor, don’t forget that I’m a human, and I have the Rule Ability to force you to perform the task for me.”
To put it in simpler words, the so-called “Rule Ability” was like a computer game decades ago, when one could click on the NPC Conversation Box to complete the missions. Since the NPCs in The New Age had self-consciousness and were able to move about independently, the players could interrupt the NPCs’ actions and force to hand in tasks when they were in a hurry.
“Okay! I’ll give you your rewards!”
Ding~
—”You have completed the mission [Mentor’s Trial]! You received 1,200,000 EXP, 500 points of Guild of Light reputation, and the qualification of receiving job missions!”
Ding~
A job mission trial book fell into his bag. Upon opening it, he would be able to receive job missions!
Lin Jie was excited and said, “Mentor, as your Heritage Disciple, shouldn’t you give me some extra benefits?”
“What do you want from me?” Seeing Miya standing in front of him with a shy face, Warrior Mentor gritted his teeth as the ‘shining light bulb’ did not want to go away. He wished he could tear Lin Jie limb from limb and bury him in a second.
“Something like… Secret Techniques of Clomaros?” Lin Jie laughed and said shamelessly.
“Out of the question!”
“Please think about it.”
“Scram!”
“Okay, so you’ll give me Secret Techniques if I roll a few times on the ground?”
“Scram… No, don’t roll!”
“Okay, I won’t go, please continue, mentor, I’ll just stay aside and be a witness.”
Lin Jie bothered him with an innocent face. Only when Miya’s blush was about to disappear, and she became a little impatient, did Warrior Mentor finally throw a stack of scrolls on Lin Jie’s face fiercely. “Scram!”
“Understood.” Lin Jie kept the scrolls and ran away quickly.
‘Hahahaha!’ Lin Jie couldn’t help laughing. It was a windfall! He was ready to kill the other two monsters for the Secret Techniques of Clomaros, but now he had saved lots of effort!
Warrior Mentor had been chasing Miya for decades, how could he not be in a hurry when Lin Jie had almost shipped them successfully? Not to mention taking a gun to the battle, it was good enough to be able to hold her hands and kiss her on the lips… Thus, Lin Jie’s plan was shamefully successful—taking advantage of his mentor’s eagerness to let him disappear!
Lin Jie had obtained the [Shield Cut], a super powerful and BUG-like skill from his first Secret Techniques of Clomaros. What could he possibly get from the second one?
Putting the scrolls in his bag, Lin Jie clapped his hands in satisfaction and was about to leave when he suddenly remembered one thing—the Bandit who had assassinated his mentor in his previous life! Would he still appear?
“For the sake of Secret Techniques of Clomaros, I’ll give you a hand.” Lin Jie lay quietly on the top of the mountain, hid his figure, and stared at the two Job-Changing NPCs who were very important to the players.
However, Lin Jie obviously worried too much. Warrior Mentor was a high-ranking Warrior, who had won countless fights in Warriors Arena. After the earlier life and death crisis, although on the surface, his mind seemed to be immersed in love, in fact, his vigilance had increased several times, and his eyes floated around. Also, Miya was a Hunter Mentor, whose ability to distinguish breath was ten times better than that of a Warrior. Even if the Bandit was powerful, he would be dead if he dared to approach them again at this time.
“Reggie, are you really going to accept him as your Heritage Disciple?”
“Yes, although he’s a human, he still managed to save my life. Miya, I’ll tell you the truth. Actually, I didn’t plan anything… I didn’t even know that the Bandit was here when my disciple showed up…”
“Ah? Then how did you manage to avoid his attack?”
“That brat… he yelled that… Miya is… is… is… is a super beautiful woman! I was jealous and ran toward him.”
“You… haha.”
Lin Jie stared at them from afar. Fortunately, he could not hear their conversation, or else, he would be scared with his heart beating rapidly. If Warrior Mentor recounted Lin Jie’s original words, Miya might arrange her Contract Pet to pee at him intentionally. Luckily, he had escaped a disaster without knowing it.
As for becoming a Heritage Disciple, Lin Jie did not even think about accepting his offer!
In the mainland of The New Age, the players could inherit strength through various means such as “Relics,” “Apprentice to a Master,” and “Souls of the Deceased”, which included Apprentice to an NPC. If one chose Apprentice to an NPC, they had to increase the NPC’s favorability, give gifts to the NPC on a daily basis, and do many things for the NPC – for free, of course – in order to have a small chance to trigger the missions of apprenticeship.
After getting the Heritage from the NPC, the player could get to learn NPC’s exclusive skills. Reggie, for example, taught a great skill, [Storm Swordsmanship], which included 4 active sub-skills and 6 passive sub-skills.
And the powerful skill such as the Legendary skill, [Illusionary Trace], which Lin Jie had used, was considered a top skill! Those kinds of skills included dozens of sub-skills, and each and every one of them was extremely powerful!
“Hehe, I think they’re going to be dating soon! Mentor, you have to thank me! I’m your matchmaker!” Thinking of the coming benefits, Lin Jie almost laughed out loud.
