Under such circumstances where there were too many boats chasing too few fish, she was at a disadvantage.
Furthermore, Zou Wenxuan said that she was acquainted with the senior and she seemed to get along well with him. Qiao Nan had reasons to believe that she was here to get sponsorship from him as well.
Qiao Nan did not know the senior at all. On the contrary, Senior Zou knew him and they kept in touch.
Qiao Nan sucked in a breath at the thought of this. Even if her vice president was willing to help her, she was doomed to lose. She was not Senior Zou’s opponent.
Zou Wenxuan had been staring at Qiao Nan. Even though Qiao Nan looked as per normal, Zou Wenxuan noticed the glitter in her eyes and smiled. “Senior Gao is very popular at Peking University. If not for the fact that he keeps a low profile and graduated earlier than others, he would have been the most handsome boy at our school. This is only a small discussion. There are not many available classrooms. Therefore, limited seats are available. It is not easy to get a ticket. Did Xu Shengnan give you the ticket?”
Qiao Nan was just a freshman. She had no means of getting a ticket.
There were limited seats for Senior Gao’s talk. After catering to the students from his faculty, there were not many tickets left for new freshmen like Qiao Nan who was from another faculty. She simply had no chance to join the talk.
Zou Wenxuan snorted. Xu Shengnan had indeed lived up to her position as the vice president of the English club. She was indeed capable to be able to get the tickets under such circumstances.
Zou Wenxuan and Xu Shengnan were classmates. Xu Shengnan might have a bad temper but she was capable. Zou Wenxuan was clear of that. That was why Zou Wenxuan had to be on guard now that Xu Shengnan was very ambitious about securing funds for the events.
Zou Wenxuan took notice of Qiao Nan not because she had the abilities. It was simply because Xu Shengnan asked Qiao Nan to join the club.
Zou Wenxuan might not see Qiao Nan as a threat, but she had to be careful of people whom Xu Shengnan trusted.
“Yes,” Qiao Nan replied, not bothering to explain. “I knew about this talk only after the vice president told me about it.”
Zou Wenxuan smiled. “You are a peculiar person. Xu Shengnan may have a bad temper, but she trusted you with such a task. Qiao Nan, do you want to reconsider joining my club?”
Zou Wenxuan was amused. When people encountered such a situation, it was absolutely impossible for them to admit blatantly that someone helped them get in through the back door. They would find a way to explain that they had some means or that they could not be bothered with doing such things and was forced by other people.
However, Qiao Nan admitted right away that she was witless and had to rely on her senior to get in through the back door. Zou Wenxuan had never seen people like her.
Perhaps it was due to Xu Shengnan that she asked Qiao Nan to join her club previously. However, right now, she asked her simply because she wanted to get to know her.
Qiao Nan was at a loss for words. She smiled. “Senior Zou, thank you for the invitation.” She had no intention of changing to another club.
“Are you that confident of completing the task that Xu Shengnan entrusted you with?” Zou Wenxuan widened her eyes. It was fine that she rejected her offer. She was not Xu Shengnan. She could do without Qiao Nan.
Qiao Nan shook her head, an honest look on her face. “There seems to be no hope.” With Senior Zou around, she was witless.
Even if Xu Shengnan was here, given that Zou Wenxuan was around, she would not place her hopes on the senior.
“Well, at least you know your limits. You are more adorable than Xu Shengnan.” If Xu Shengnan could know what was good for her like Qiao Nan, and she was not so stubborn, they would have been able to have a better time in their previous two years in college. “Let’s go, or we will be late. He does not like people who are late.”
“Sure.” Qiao Nan nodded and followed after her.
Many thoughts ran through her mind as Zou Wenxuan looked at the junior next to her.
The junior who was only a freshman knew that she was bound to lose. Why did she not leave but stay to suffer humiliation?
Qiao Nan looked calm and composed as usual. Her eyes were clear like water droplets on crystals. Zou Wenxuan had no idea what was on her mind.
After Zou Wenxuan and Qiao Nan went in, Xu Shengnan, who was the topic of their conversation, appeared hurriedly.
“Crap! Where did Qiao Nan go? Didn’t I tell her to wait for me and I will get someone to pass her a ticket? She has no ticket and is nowhere to be found. My goodness!”
Xu Shengnan looked at the watch. She was reminded that the senior hated people who were late. She gritted her teeth and stomped her foot. She grabbed the tickets in her hand tightly and went in by herself.
It was fine that Qiao Nan was not here. Anyway, it was too late.
Since Qiao Nan was not here, she must not be late.
If she was late, even if she had the opportunity to talk to the senior, she would not have the cheek to ask him for sponsorships. She was very clear that she would be rejected.
Actually, it would be better if the two of them tried to get the senior to provide sponsorship. But right now, Xu Shengnan had no other choice but to try her best to get the sponsorship by herself. It was better than not having any chance.
“Is Xu Shengnan here yet?” Zou Wenxuan asked Qiao Nan after they entered the room. She noticed that the room was filled with a lot of students.
Xu Shengnan was banking on getting sponsorships through the talk this time. Even though she trusted Qiao Nan and put all the stakes on her, she could not let Qiao Nan handle it by herself.
“I have no idea.” Qiao Nan was confused. “Is Vice President Xu coming as well? She only said that she would get someone to pass me a ticket. She did not say anything else. If she is here, we should be able to see her later.” Qiao Nan was not the least bit anxious.
Zou Wenxuan smiled and did not comment further. “Okay, let’s hurry to find a place to sit down.” Zou Wenxuan did not want to keep standing. By the time the talk started, it would be odd to be standing.
Qiao Nan glanced at the ticket in her hands. “Are we supposed to sit in assigned seats like when we are in the cinemas and on the trains?”
“You…” Zou Wenxuan looked at the ticket in Qiao Nan’s hand. “Why is your seat at the very first row?” She was not in the middle row. According to the number on the ticket, she was on the very first row. How could that be possible? “You can sit anywhere that you like. Do you think you are qualified to sit in the first row seats?”
Whenever there were big events, the best seats were reserved for the school management. Students would not be able to take the first row seats, not even the corner seats in the first row.
