Chapter 835: Going to the Shen Residence

The next day, something big happened in the military district. The commissar’s only daughter-in-law had suddenly gone missing.
In the afternoon, Chen Jing’s body was found in the distant outskirts. Her neck had been bitten and her blood sucked dry. The entire military district was shaken. Coupled with several other cases of people also inexplicably sucked dry, the atmosphere in the military district was very solemn.
When Chi Shuyan went out before, there would still be many children playing outside, but now, they were probably all at home.

Chi Shuyan observed Shen Rongyin and said worriedly, “Aunt Shen, I heard that something happened to your family. I was a bit worried about you. Are you okay?”

The older son was in his teens, and roughly around Chi Shuyan’s age, while the other child was only five or six years old.
This was the younger daughter, who was already old enough to be aware of things. Seeing her brother cry especially miserably, she howled especially loudly and kept shouting, “I want Mom.”
Mother Shen didn’t feel good. She might not like Chi Lingyan and his daughter, but she couldn’t entertain Chi Shuyan even if she wanted to, busy as she was trying to coax the child. Furthermore, her daughter had gotten quite close to Chi Lingyan’s daughter recently.
Mother Shen had no choice but to take her granddaughter upstairs to try and coax her. She was also worried about her only grandson, and took him with her. She also told Shen Rongyin not to cry and spoil her eyes before she went upstairs.
Chi Shuyan sighed when it was just her and Shen Rongyin left in the living room.
Seeing that the handkerchief in Shen Rongyin’s hand was soaked, Chi Shuyan took out a few pieces of tissue and gave them to her. “Aunt Shen, don’t cry. What if you cry until you spoil your eyes?”
Shen Rongyin shook her head. “I was just thinking about my sister-in-law.” At the word “sister-in-law,” Shen Rongyin choked up again. “My sister-in-law treated me especially well. When I got married and had to come home after those things happened, she never said anything and always consoled me. How can such a good person not be spared? How did my sister-in-law suddenly die?”
As Shen Rongyin spoke, she sniffled and started crying again. Chi Shuyan narrowed her eyes as she stared at Shen Rongyin’s face, which was covered in tears. If these devastated tears were fake, her acting skills were definitely worthy of an Oscar.
Not long after, Chi Shuyan’s father and a few unfamiliar soldiers in camo uniform came downstairs. Commissar Shen’s face was very unsightly and tired. The man next to him, who looked a bit like Commissar Shen, also had a dark face and bloodshot eyes.
Chi Lingyan was about to say something, but he vaguely heard his daughter’s voice.. He subconsciously looked over and saw that his daughter was sitting in the Shen residence and comforting Shen Rongyin. He was stunned and called out, “Yan Yan!”
