Whereas Pei Ge was unwilling to get into Ji Ziming’s car, Zhang Manhua was not against it.
In fact, not only was her mother not against it, she was even very fond of it and of the man offering them a ride home.
Thus, she could only follow suit when her mother got into his car.
“Xiao Ji, why are you here?” her mother asked once they were in the car.
“I had some business to attend to in the area,” he replied plainly.
Qie! What ‘business to attend to in the area’?! That’s a big fat lie! Pei Ge spat inwardly.
“Oh, I thought you were waiting for our Ge Ge,” her mother said in a tone tinged with disappointment.
At her words, Du Wen’s grip on the steering wheel tightened.
Auntie, you’ve guessed correctly! CEO Ji did specially wait outside for your daughter!
It was just unfortunate that he did not dare voice out this thought of his.
“Mom, what are you saying?!” Pei Ge, who had been maintaining her silence, exclaimed at her mother’s words.
“You child, why are you getting agitated? I’m just joking with Xiao Ji here.” She grinned at her daughter’s embarrassment.
Depressed, she decided not to bother with her mother and the man and merely concentrated on watching the passing scenery outside the car window.
Her attitude did not affect Zhang Manhua and Ji Ziming’s lively conversation at all, though.
Listening to the two’s conversation, she realized that, though cold and annoying, the man could actually be so charming when he wanted to gain someone’s favor.
He was a grumpy man of a few words, yet here he was animatedly holding a conversation with her housewife of a mother.
He even managed to make her mother laugh. What a miracle.
Seeing the smile on Zhang Manhua’s face, which contrasted with her mother’s puffy eyes, the initial dissatisfaction she felt for the man disappeared.
Hmph. Since you’ve made my mom happy, I won’t count things with you anymore, she muttered inwardly.
Under Ji Ziming’s cold yet reassuring voice and Zhang Manhua’s soothing voice, the car harmoniously arrived at Pei Ge’s block.
“Xiao Ji, thank you so much for today!” Zhang Manhua said with a broad grin when she alighted from the car.
“You’re welcome, Auntie. It’s along the way,” Ji Ziming replied with a shrug.
“Thank you still. Remember to come over some time. Auntie will personally cook for you,” she invited warmly.
Pei Ge looked at how warm her mother was treating the man and pouted to herself. There’s no way this annoying person will come over to our house for a meal.
Even Du Wen shared Pei Ge’s thought the moment he heard Zhang Manhua issue the invitation.
Their big boss had such a picky taste when it came to food, so how could he agree to such a thing?
However, to Pei Ge and Du Wen’s surprise, Ji Ziming actually agreed!
“Okay.” This simple word shocked the two of them silly.
Zhang Manhua’s smile grew wider when she heard his affirmative reply, her good feeling toward him increasing by a fold.
“Mom, we should go up,” Pei Ge urged. She could no longer stand looking at how bright her mother’s smile was toward Ji Ziming.
Her mother smilingly nodded. “Alright, alright. Let’s go; let’s go.”
She waved goodbye to Ji Ziming and headed for the staircase.
“Pei Ge.” Just as she was about to follow her mother to the staircase, the man, who was standing behind them, called out to her.
She halted her footsteps and turned to ask, “What?”
When he merely looked at her and did not speak, she licked her lips and said, “If you have something to say, say it quickly.”
Zhang Manhua, who was standing at the side, smiled at the two. “He he! You two young people continue chatting; I’ll go up first.”
“Ah, Mom, wait for me!” she hurriedly said when she realized that her mother was about to leave her behind.
“Ge Ge, have a good talk with Xiao Ji. I think he has something to tell you in private.” Zhang Manhua stopped her daughter from following her.
Pei Ge watched her mother leave and had no choice but to face the man. “CEO Ji, what exactly do you want to talk about? If you are not going to say it, then I’m going up now.”
Ji Ziming’s forehead creased at her arrogance. “You seem to have forgotten that I am your boss.”
“What about it? It’s after the working hours,” she declared with her chin raised.
“Oh, then how do you feel about me docking your pay?” He arched an eyebrow, looking indifferent.
Her hair stood on end at his words.
“You! Shameless! You only know how to use this to threaten me! Meany!” She glared at the man. This petty person was probably finding trouble with her because she had slammed the car door in his face earlier!
“Dock your pay,” he said without a crease on his forehead.
His cold voice had just descended when she deflated like a balloon.
“What do you want to talk about? Don’t tell me you just want to dock my pay?” she asked feebly.
He did not respond to her question. Instead, he took large strides over and stopped an arm’s length away from her.
“Wh – What are you doing?!” She retreated when he closed in on her.
“You cried,” he coldly remarked, looking at her slightly puffy eyes.
“I did not!” She lied through her teeth.
“Your eyes are red,” he stated plainly.
“I rubbed my eyes vigorously, that’s why!” she exclaimed like a dead duck.
“Your mother’s eyes are like this, too,” he pressed on.
Hearing his words, she involuntarily blurted out, “How did you know?!”
Was this annoying person’s vision that good?
