“You didn’t have to buy me flowers.”
Pei Ge walked toward Chen Zhengchu and received the bouquet of flowers from him while muttering that.
At the same time, he lovingly looked at her clean appearance.
“It’s because I have been neglecting you these past few days. I heard from the nurse in our hospital that flowers will make you forgive me,” he lightly said while gently looking at her.
Pei Ge’s heart softened at that. “I don’t blame you.”
She truly did not blame him and even felt that the time they were apart was ideal for them to calmly organize their thoughts.
At least, she, for her part, had thought things through these past few days.
“Let’s go. I will bring you to a newly opened dessert house to eat your favorite dessert.” Chen Zhengchu opened the car door for her like a gentleman.
With a large bouquet of red roses in her hands, she got into the passenger seat.
Pak! After the door closed, she did not know if something was wrong with her nose, but she somehow smelled a foreign fragrance in his car.
“Why is there a perfume smell in your car?” She turned to look at Chen Zhengchu questioningly.
Chen Zhengchu, who was buckling up his seat belt, briefly paused at that before he replied, “It should be the fragrance coming from the roses.”
“Is it…” It doesn’t smell like roses, though, she mumbled to herself. She, however, decided to put such a small issue at the back of her mind.
They quickly reached the newly opened dessert house that he had mentioned.
Pei Ge alighted from the car, gazed at the very pink and fantasy-like dessert house, and involuntarily smiled.
“How did you learn of this dessert house?” I really can’t imagine a man like him paying attention to such a shop. Even I feel that this shop is excessively pink.
“I know that you like desserts, so I started taking note of all the dessert houses in the city. This one just opened recently and the reviews about it are quite good.” He continued to smile gently at her.
Pei Ge felt a little touched by his words and thought that she had probably misjudged him yesterday.
Occupying a table inside, he warmly watched her finish the dessert and then said, “I actually want to stop you from eating dessert every time, but when I see the blissful look on your face, I really can’t bring myself to do so.”
Pei Ge blinked her eyes and regarded the man sitting opposite her. Before she could utter a reply, his next words struck her dumb.
“You shouldn’t eat sweets so unrestrainedly once we are married.” He smiled affectionately at her, yet his tone of voice was serious.
The next batch of desserts was fortunately not served yet, as she was certain that she would choke to death on them if she heard his words while eating them.
Of course, she was not in a much better state right now as she choked on her saliva, instead.
“Cough, cough, cough!” she coughed uncontrollably. She really did not expect him to say those words.
He looked at her appearance and asked a little helplessly, “Are my words that scary?”
Once she stopped coughing, she replied rather feebly. “It’s not scary, but it’s too sudden.”
“How is this sudden? I don’t think it is sudden at all.” He smiled.
“Dr. Chen, marriage is not a child’s play. Look at us; we have only known each other for less than a month, and our parents have not even met yet. How is your act of blurting out about marriage out of the blue not considered as sudden?” She rolled her eyes.
He nodded his head in agreement when he heard her reason. “That’s true. Then, let us arrange a time for our parents to meet.”
“…” She briefly froze up with her eyes opened wide. “Dr. Chen, are you really serious about that? Do you really want to get married this soon?”
“Yes.” He nodded his head and looked at her squarely. “Although we have not known each other for long, I still want to marry you.”
“… Dr. Chen, isn’t this a little too fast?! You aren’t saying these to make me feel better about yesterday, right? Dr. Chen, you—” He interrupted her at this point.
“No, I really want to marry you.” He looked at her solemnly and asked, “Will you marry me?”
“I – I…” Her mind was in a mess. She was preparing to talk things out with the man today, yet he unexpectedly shut her up with a proposal?! This really caused her to be at a loss on how to proceed.
Just as she was thinking of how to reply to him, the waiter served them another batch of desserts.
“Sir, Miss, these are the desserts you have ordered.”
After placing the many plates of desserts on the table, the water placed an exquisite-looking mousse cake right in front of Pei Ge.
Pei Ge, whose mind was in a mess, reflexively picked up a spoon to gouge at the mousse cake before her.
However, with this random prick at the cake, she realized something odd about it.
A mousse cake should be soft and squishy, yet why did this one feel hard?
It couldn’t be?!
Suddenly thinking of something, her eyes widened and she hurriedly gouged out the hard item.
“A – A ring?!” She was shocked at the sight of the small and exquisite diamond ring, which was still partially covered in mousse, on the spoon.
“Pei Ge, will you marry me?” he asked solemnly.
Upon seeing the ring, Pei Ge, who had planned to reject him, understood that Chen Zhengchu did not decide to do this rashly, but was instead serious about it.
Within the pink, fantasy-themed dessert house, the instrumental music of the violin started playing. The romantic music drifted into everyone’s ears.
Slowly, people started chanting, “Marry him! Marry him!”
Their kind-hearted urging entered her ears and made her blush deeply in embarrassment.
This was her first time receiving a marriage proposal. Although the proposal was slightly old-fashioned, it was still done in a place she liked very much.
She looked at the man, who was currently gently gazing at her, and wavered.
Women were sensitive and temperamental. Although she was thinking that they were not suitable for each other yesterday – or even just now – she was currently singing a different tune as she felt moved by his action….
…
“Oh, no, it’s bad, CEO Ji! That jerk, Chen Zhengchu, has proposed to Miss Pei Ge!”
