“That’s very thoughtful. You must not have breakfast yet; come have some breakfast with us.”
After Qu Jingwan sat down, the atmosphere at the dining table became a lot tenser.
The lady curled her lips a bit when she looked at Pei Ge, who was sitting across from Ji Chi.
“Baby, are you happy to see mommy?”
“Yes!”
The boy nodded his head heavily when he heard her question.
“Then, how about you come sit with me?”
“…” He became a bit conflicted.
He turned to look at his siblings, who were sitting at his sides, a little unwilling to move.
In the end, he nodded out of love for his ‘mom’.
“Mhm!”
Pei Ge felt her frustration rise up as she watched her son run into the missy’s embrace; this was especially so when the other woman smiled at her smugly.
She tried to suppress her frustration before the kids and pretend that she had not seen anything. She peeled the egg in her hands and placed it in the bowl of her daughter, who did not really like eggs. “Ran Ran, don’t be picky; eggs are nutritious.”
“Oh, I know, mommy…”
Qu Jingwan saw the way Ji Chi was watching her peel the egg and moved her brows slightly as a complex expression flashed across her eyes.
“Baby, do you want to eat an egg?” She smiled at him, her gaze tender.
“En.” He nodded without hesitation. While the boy did not like to eat eggs, for some reason, he really felt like eating one right now.
“Then, I’ll peel one for you.” The boy pulled his chopsticks out of the egg and waited expectantly.
“Baby, does it taste good?”
“It’s good.”
Looking at the intimate interaction between the two and hearing the child’s enthusiastic response, Pei Ge thought that she had underestimated herself.
She pursed her lips. When she noted that her two other children were done with their breakfast, she stood up from her chair.
“Uncle, auntie, we’re done eating; I’ll bring the children out for a walk.”
“I’m done eating, too.”
Ji Ziming walked to her side when he saw her leaving with the two kids.
Qu Jingwan, who had done it intentionally to antagonize the woman, felt uncomfortable.
She curled her lips slightly and raised her voice intentionally as she watched the other leave.
“Baby, have more if it’s good, okay?”
“En, I want another one.”
Leaving the annoying voice behind her, Pei Ge brought her kids for a stroll in this villa’s garden.
She recollected her feelings as she gazed at and smelled the beautiful flowers in the garden.
“Mommy, why did my little brother like that good-smelling auntie?”
“‘Good-smelling auntie’?” She looked at her daughter, unable to fathom why the latter would call that lady such.
“Because she smells good.”
This confused her even more.
She did not smell any perfume on that lady.
Ji Ziming butt in at this point. “Don’t bother yourself with it. Since she wants to be a caretaker, let her be.”
She pursed her lips tightly following his words.
“Don’t worry too much; there’s a lot of work for us to deal with here.”
He saw how strained Pei Ge was because of the children, and his heart ached for her.
“But…”
The woman was still worried about the boy.
“Think about it; Ji Chi’s been hypnotized. He’s only treating her that nicely because he thinks she’s you. You don’t have to be so bothered by it.”
As a bystander, he was rational and calm, so his words were illuminating for her.
The two children nodded in agreement, too.
“Yes, mommy; little brother’s only taking that auntie for you.”
“Don’t worry; little brother still likes you the most! We’ll make sure he remembers us!”
Her negative feelings were swept away by her kids’ comforting words.
“En, we will.”
She curled her lips into a bright smile.
Yes. Her Ping An was only taking Qu Jingwan for her. He was only that attached to that lady because of her…
“I’ll go ask little brother to play with me; why don’t you come along?” suddenly suggested An An.
“I want to come, too.” Ran Ran pouted as she raised her head. “I wanna come, too; I wanna make little brother recall things fast.”
“Okay, okay. We’ll go together.” She felt warm and fuzzy inside as she watched her two children come up with ideas for her. She knew that they could not be taken away from her that easily.
The man shook his head wordlessly as he watched his kids cling onto his woman.
There went his hopes for alone time with her.
…
Following the kids’ suggestion, she went seeking Ji Chi with them.
After a while, with the servant’s help, they entered the living room.
Madam Ji and Qu Jingwan were seated on the sofa, discussing the latest gossip. The boy, meanwhile, was on the rug in a corner, playing with his wooden blocks with a bored expression on his face.
“Mommy, let’s go over.” Her eldest son tugged on her hand.
“Okay, let’s go.” She held her children and came down the stairs.
The boy raised his head when he heard footsteps before he went back to his playing blocks.
“Pei Ge, you’re here.” The missy spoke before she could say anything.
It was only then that the older woman noticed her and, more importantly, the children’s presence.
“Kids, come over to grandma.”
Despite their young age, both kids knew that their grandma did not like their mother, so they chose to butter up to her in hopes of changing her view of their mother!
The two started acting cute for the sake of conquering the older woman’s heart.
Pei Ge shook her head in amusement as she watched them.
This pair of siblings was so intelligent and adorable.
