“Where is your son? I have something to confirm with him!”
Everyone was taken aback at her question, not having expected her to ask for the boy’s whereabouts, much less for her to have business with him.
This unexpected inquiry made the older woman, who had always been protective of her grandson, tense up.
“W-What do you want with him?”
She regarded the younger woman with suspicion, suddenly wondering if the latter was unhappy with having a step-child with her son.
Her son was obviously very infatuated with her that he had no regard for his parents. What more of the son he hardly deigned to care about?
Thinking up to this, she felt as though her heart was in her mouth.
Her guarded expression amused yet comforted the other woman.
However, for some reason, she could not help but have a sense of foreboding regarding the boy, and she quickly asked again, “Where is Ji Chi? Where? I want to see him!”
She directed her gaze onto the man again.
The latter involuntarily frowned, too.
“Mom, where is Ji Chi?”
Seeing how obedient her son was to Pei Ge, as though her words were a royal decree, Madam Ji suddenly felt that her grandson would have a tough life ahead of him.
This young woman had her children; hence, it was likely that she would not treat her step-son well.
All three kids were her son’s children and her grandchildren, but Little Ji Chi was, after all, the one she had brought up. Thus, it was only natural for her to favor the boy more.
She, who was originally already not against her son marrying Pei Ge, suddenly did not want the marriage to occur anymore.
“Why must you see my grandson? What do you want?”
Knowing that it was futile to speak with her son, she narrowed her eyes at the woman in hostility, instead.
“Auntie, I don’t have anything against him. Please—”
Before she could finish speaking, something occurred with the two children in her arms.
Suddenly, the girl clutched her chest and started wailing.
“Waaahh!”
The loud wailing attracted everyone’s attention.
“Ran Ran! Ran Ran, are you all right?!”
Pei Ge did not have the mind to ask where the boy was anymore. Hearing her daughter wailing, she hurriedly bent down, and when she saw the latter clutching her chest, she thought that her daughter was having a heart attack.
“Baby, tell mommy, alright? Where do you feel awful? Is your heart in pain?”
She was so worried that she lost her cool.
“Ziming, quickly call an ambulance! She might be having a heart attack again!”
The man quickly whipped out his handphone upon hearing this.
However, before he could make the call, the girl spoke, amid her wailing, something that everyone found to be unbelievable.
“Mommy. It isn’t me who’s hurting! It’s little brother! Wu wu…”
